@@jdelgado243 Y'know, you're one of only a few commenters who does not regard BvS as some sort of masterpiece (which I don't get personally). If Mr Rosenbaum had indeed reprised his role as Lex, that would certainly would've been a massive bonus (Eisenberg played him exactly how I knew he would, a neurotic personality). However, I will add that Snyder is a massive 'Smallville' fan, and apparently took inspiration when approaching 'Man of Steel', which featured actors who had guest starred in that show, namely Amy Adams, Ian Tracey (troublemaker at the bar) & Alessandro Juliani (team member in the snowy mountains who discover the Kryptonian ship).
@jdelgado2433 жыл бұрын
@@dannyr2976 i apologize for my misunderstanding this: do you mean that you do not understand my viewpoint of BvS(and honestly the entire DCEU that was tarnished by snyder) or that you do not understand why more people do not see it as a giant shitshow? In regards to character portrayals rosenbaum was so much better than eisenberg at the role it isnt a fair fight. The best versions of Lex are not mustache twirling villain; but the charismatic genius that is (rightfully) afraid of an individual that has more power than whole nations. That fear drives him to do unhinged things. Eisenberg played lex like his a mix of jim carrey and mark zuckerberg with a splash of elon for flavor.
@dannyr29763 жыл бұрын
@@jdelgado243 Poor wording on me, sorry 'bout that! Meant I don't get how others view BvS as some great masterpiece (just don't see that), it's entertaining, even enjoyable in parts for what is it, but overall a giant mess, it tries too hard to cover so much that should've been split into two films, 'Batman vs Superman,' then follow up with 'Dawn of Justice' (the latter would focus on the League characters). Getting back to BvS, Superman's mom is in trouble, he finds Batman and tries to get him to listen to reason, they battle for a bit, OK. Supes in doused with Kryptonite gas, becomes weakened, fine, at some point during the fight regains his strength, *fight's over* , but instead continues to fight... and loses. And please somebody tell me, when Batman is positioned on top of the crane and fires the tracker onto the back of the truck, how does he make it to the Batmobile so quickly to charge at the bad guys shooting?
@jdelgado2433 жыл бұрын
@@dannyr2976 no worries. Yea. BvS was such a mess, and the extended edition wasnt much better, but quite a bit longer. My biggest problem with the plot was that it seemed that lex's master plan required for a lot of accidents to occur to help him along. And how does the worlds smartest detective let himself get manipulated so easily in that way? And the reason they become besties is bc their moms have the same name? Yea...what a great connection. Im not going to get into all of the plot points snyder started and couldnt figure out where to go with it, or how to do the characters justice.

Laura was always the best on Smallville as Supergirl. Her bond with Tom as Clark and Kara was always so lovely. Always loved their moments talking about family/Krypton, Kara's great moments of protecting Clark, and teaching him to fly. There's no shame in admitting this and having enough self-awareness to identify it is a sign of humility. I would say the 'guys have it easier' in terms of being judged on looks has become more rhetoric with a number of TV shows and movies with young men depicting teenage boys looking buff, we don't tend to see women doing needless shirtless scenes either.
@OmegaII3 жыл бұрын
I some ways yes, in other ways no. About the shirtless scenes, lots of women get no nudity clauses in their contracts with strict rules on skin, men don't cause there less likely to have negative career consequises from it. I think Michael meant if a guy goes to an adition not in peak condition, they will be given the oppurtunity to get in shape for the role, women not so much.(Just reffering to thin not muscle build)
@artjagman13 жыл бұрын
@@OmegaII I do get that, but the idea of 'female beauty' has a lot to do with it, and a lot to answer for. Since we don't have a male equivalent (just men that fit that description like Chris Hemsworth or Henry Cavill, hell even Tom Welling!) then women are gonna be judged differently on their appearance relative to men. I've argued this so many times in comment sections (sometimes with women) who seem to want that association with women with and beauty, so if there is a 'beauty standard' (to which I wholeheartedly disagree with) then we cannot be shocked by the careers of certain women in Hollywood.

I think fans pick up on if a show or movie seems a little cold and maybe too corporate behind the scenes. A couple examples would be Supergirl and the new Star Wars trilogy were the actors seemed like they hated it. You can feel the passion and love for the property from Smallville and the original Star wars trilogy.

@@BishopWalters12 I mean, that just tell us you can't tell. It was very clear that Alec and Harrison didn't want to be on set for Star Wars, Harrison loathed the Star Wars fandom but loved the money. I mean... for fuck's sake, the most well know female character in Star Wars was in a chain bikini, and Fisher still said she regretted saying yes to it until her death, making a joke about it to the female leads for the new trilogy. Natalie Portman was put in a crop top for no reason in Attack of the Clones, probably one of the reasons she's hard to work with now. Compare this to Mark who wasn't the best actor back then, probably smaller paychecks than Guiness and Ford due to how much screentime he has compared to them. He's so much a mega fan of the fandom, he had to tell himself that the new trilogy is just an alternate timeline where Luke dies like a puss.

Not really. When Reeves and Margot were on Smallville, those were big events! It was almost as if to legitimize and bless Smallville as part of the Superman universe and it was treated as such. This is not the same thing. I think what they are implying here is that Laura could have played Supergirl herself through a spin-off after SV. I’m sure she could have even audition for the role but obviously didn’t get it. On top of that, it seems like she wasn’t treated the best when she guest starred on the show.

@@DSan-kl2yc That’s only because that’s the project that took off. How many project die before a pilot, or die after a pilot? Case in point: Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Both had pilots after Smallville and died right after. They tried to do the DC universe on TV but that never went anywhere, Apart from when they started to do crossovers. At that time, Marvel hadn’t started yet so maybe they thought those were good to try but there wasn’t much faith in the shows and maybe the script and quality wasn’t tight enough. But once Marvel started, More DC shows started to be created. At one point, almost every day of the week had a DC show on, Arrow, the Flash, Supergirl and Constantine. The only spin-off show that survived and was successful after SV was Arrow.

First off ...for me ... Michael Rosenbaum is light years the best Lex Luthor ever ! My problem with Lex. Luthor in Chris Reeves Superman is the character is played campy like a 1966 Batman villain ...I also hated the Otis goofy henchman ...all played for laughs . Other Lex. Luthors are not memorable at all but at least Jon Cryer tried. Michael made the Lex character real & interesting. As for Laura ... the best Supergirl version ever ... she is a blonde & looks just like they draw her in the DC comicbooks ! Laura had good chemistry with Tom's version of Clark ...they. really acted like they were cousins. Smallville is better to me than the CW Supergirl TV because Smallville stayed focused on telling comicbook stories & CW Supergirl strayed from that to go overboard on personal relationships between secondary characters. I live in Massachucetts & attend some comicbook conventions & was lucky enough to meet Laura twice . She was one of the best TV celebrities I ever met . Just beyond super-nice . I like to give some celebrities artwork if I have the time to do it . Gave Laura a Supergirl Smallville styled comicbook cover poster I designed. Laura liked it so much she gave me a hug & showed it on her Instagram page ! She is the only celebrity to do this for me & I really appreciated it immensely ! She is one-of-a-kind ... gorgeous & incredibly thoughtful. Only Supergirl for me !

To me the best Lex was Jean Hackman followed by only by Michael Rosenbaum. I loved Hackman because he could be funny and terrifying at the same time and that is something very few actors can accomplish. John Shea and Kevin Spacey had a little of the too but they came across as either sleezy or unlikable although they were good villains I just never felt like wanted to see things from their perspective. Michael portrayal of Lex was warn and was just what the show needed to build the friendship between these two Iconic characters. The show made you want Clark to tell Lex the truth every time these were on screen together. Michael made you believe that Lex was fighting his inner self and really wanted to be a hero. He always gave a solid performance and I would love to see him play the part as a more seasoned Lex.
