We love 'Debbie ', our Deebot robot vacuum cleaner. She's an early model with very few sophistications and tends to wake up in the middle of the night with her erie blue flashing light wandering through the house. The remote means we can sit in a chair and drive Debbie around the room. Great fun.

Hello from Minnesota! My daughter and husband live in South Carolina and have an automated robotic lawn mower. They named him “Gary”. Biggest thing on the mower is to keep it in it’s defined area. It disappeared for a few days after they got it, only to find it a few days later stuck under the hedge row bushes. Interested toy but would rather sweep the shop myself. You’ll have to do a follow up on it after you are done with fall harvesting. You may find it doesn’t have enough capacity or that it won’t handle the clumps of soil that you drag into the shop. I like the new rid mower, much better investment in my book. Still, both units are fun.

I love my 60" Toro Zero turn mower, my only regret is I didn't spend the extra money for the "My Ride" option. I've owned it now for 3 1/2 years (in fact I just paid it off two days ago) When I brought it home, In the first 5 minutes of mowing I broke off the shute and bent the blades. I thought I knew how to run one of these zero turns, guess not. Since then I learned how to run it, I built a new shute, based on the Bad Boy mower shutes, I installed the 6 blade adaptors and run heavy-duty blades on the bottom and mulcher blades on top and It cuts great. My mower is 3 - 4 times faster than my old 1993 Craftsman garden tractor. Keep on a mowin' Laura!

couple points on the vac. things you will figure out im sure but here goes. my family has had "Roomba's" since they first came out (grandma had the first one). 1. get a couple "blockers" that stop it from going in certain places its like a laser beam that it wont cross. 2. dont expect it to do to big an area use the blockers to break up the barn into sections. 3. use 2x4s to keep it out from under the tool boxes i put risers under the legs of my couch because it had the same height problem. there is that bad height that the bumper wont hit and turn it, but the round thing on the top of the sweeper hits. 4. keep in mind that every time it hits something it makes in point in virtual space until it gets a perimeter and decides where there are obstacles with in that perimeter.

That weed killer that turns the weed's foliage white is called "Tenacity". It's really good stuff when used properly. Like anything else, I won't ever apply it when it's really hot and humid from July through mid September because the good turf grasses will be stressed by it, even though they say it won't. I found that out the hard way and destroyed my awesome fescue lawn twice because of the heat and chemical stresses along with the fungus that also attacks lawns that time of the year. Using weed killer and fertilizer in the hottest months seems to make the fungus really take off and ruin the grass. But keep on killing those grassy weeds until you break their reseeding cycle and then your desired turf grasses will eventually win out. It takes time, usually a few years to get a lawn right, especially in rural areas like your farm.

Good luck with your Toro mower. I have lots of trees in my back yard so years ago I bought a Toro Leaf vacuum. Not a robot type either, I had to push it all around the trees and yard. It died after one season and I have never tried to repair it because it did not do a very good job. Its still in my utility shed covered in dust.

Love the way Laura talks about it like it’s doggie pet or something. I don’t know if I would get that attached to it. Pepper might get jealous. I hear you on the heat of this summer. I am in Northern Texas and we’ve had no rain at all where I live for nearly 3 months. Even with daily sprinkler watering I’m gonna lose nearly all of the small bushes across the front of the house (and they were all replacements for established bushes that died abruptly last summer. Also a favorite red maple in the back yard went crispy and died this year - gonna have to take it down this fall. Water only helps as long as the plant’s transpiration system continues. I honestly think the heat scorching is what is killing them. Well over a month of temps above 108. Crazy!!!! I’m gonna reconsider the species I plant as replacements this time, by looking around at other properties to see what survived - maybe the boxwoods or just go back with purple fountain grass. If we are in a location with longterm climate shift for the summers here, it could get very expensive by planting the wrong stuff! Good luck y’all. Seeing young farmers carrying on the tradition brings a lot of hope and encouragement to me and I’m sure others. You are, as they say, “salt of the earth”. How can you not be moved by Laura’s smile, enthusiasm, and Grant’s gentle wisdom, and perseverance!

You could look into getting a mowing robot. Husqvarna makes nice outdoor ones that can cope with slopes. They mow your grass every other day, and most weeds can't tollerate that. Makes for a great looking lawn without needing lots of products.
