Yvette, counseling does help as does EMDR, prayer, continuing to do a daily routine, and just being together with remaining family as often as possible. I do it all, including Reiki...took me over 30 years to start to see clear the light again. Went through it twice in 4 years.

It’s been over three months and I still can’t find the strength to watch this video. I miss Danny and we still haven’t accepted that you’re gone. We wake up everyday facing our biggest nightmare but we know you’re with Our Lord and Savior. You made us all so proud little brother. Keep guarding those gates of Heaven, until we meet again.

This was a beautiful tribute to Danny. I didn't know him. He is the young man I wish I had known. I'm am proud to say I do know him just for a few minutes watching his service and the things his family and friends tell the story of young man becoming a soldier. Although he is Army I say Semper Fi my young brother. No matter where you serve every branch feels a loss for a brother or sister. Rest in peace my young brother!

We lost an airman back in 1979 through a vehicle accident after a party for our retiring flight chief. Steve did not know what happened, he went quickly on scene. I was awaken the next morning by our shift commander in full dress blues. The Lieutenant asked me to meet him in Airman Collin's room. I quickly dressed and almost ran down the hall. When I entered the room the lieutenant told me Stave had died and that we would be packing his personal belongs to be shipped to his parents. After we were done the lieutenant asked me as a supervisor to write a letter to his parents!! This was the single hardest letter I have ever written and cried while typing it out. I took special care in telling his parent how wonderful a person and airman their son was. I also had to tell his best friend, I asked a couple airmen also friends to be with us as I broke the news. We lived in the barracks and shared life. I told his friend with tears streaming down all of our faces. I'll never forget his friend asking, almost begging me the sergeant to see if he could accompany Steve home to his parents. After we finished we all went to grab food from the chow hall, the news spread fast that a Security Police airman had died. Then I went to our Squadron and talked with our First Sergeant on behalf of the friend. The first sergeant picked up the phone and asked the commander if he could see us. We went into his office and I relayed the request for Steve's friend to accompany the body home. The commander said yes and that the leave time would be counted as bereavement leave and requested his secretary to cut the orders authorizing the leave. When it came time for Steve to leave Fairchild AFB, we, his flight were standing Guard mount outside. Our new flight chief heard the sound of the jet engines starting for take-off. At that point he interrupted his speech and gave us the command to face right. Then to present arms. We all had firearms as part of our duties. When we turned right and saluted with our weapons the C-141 Steve was on broke ground for his final trip home. Not a dry eye among us as the plane left off the runway. The flight we were going to relieve told control they would stay overtime so we could grieve and to say our goodbyes. It was super quiet on our posting buses going to the areas we patrolled. The alert aircrews even comforted us and knew Steve. There was an empty chair in the alert chow hall for Steve that day. This is what goes on away from the services for military personnel that die. This is how his brothers and sisters memorialize the person and carry on. I still tear up thinking about this in 2021 forty two years ago. Steve was a young 21 when he passed, but he is still in my heart. Thank You to the family for sharing your worst time so we could be honored in the ceremony for your son!!!
