I always feel so sad when children of very great artists (Irmgard Seefried & Wolfgang Schneiderhan) tell us that their childhood was anything but happy ("nicht toll") & how they couldn't wait to get out of the house. If you listen to her mother on Da Capo interviewed by August Everding (& she knew her days were counted due to a cancer!), you have the impression that her "role" as mother was her most important role, that she loved her children very much. Mona Seefried is so bitter, you know something went wrong there.

I'm not sure what your point is here. There is a difference between being sad about a certain need (being allowed to be a child, silly, helpless etc.) not being met and saying that you didn't have a happy childhood overall. And there is a difference between a mother regarding motherhood as important and actually putting the work into motherhood and being a good mother. And Loving your children does not mean you give them what they need to grow. Secondly, there is nothing wrong with wanting to get away from your parents and seek the things you need elsewhere. Parents aren't perfect and can rarely ever give their children everything they need. Hence the proverb: "It takes a village to raise a child", just because she wanted to leave doesn't mean she isn't grateful for the things she got from her parents, it just means some things were missing, and that is only human. And feeing empowered and able to leave the parents' home is actually to some extend a sign that the parents allowed that, and we all have to leave our parents and split up, it's important for our autonomy and confidence. I hope I understood you correctly.
