The red plant you saw at the Bog was the Red Pitcher plant, Sarracenia Rubra. This is also a Carnivorous plant.

Oh 100% my neck of the woods also! I’ve been to all those spots. The other thing you should’ve seen in Laurel Hill State Park was at the Pump House Trail pond and Dam built by the CCC boys

I reside along Mountain Road in the Haws Pike section of Laurel Highlands off Route 56. I'm 29 now but even as a child I walked the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail 👣 . Bobcat are plentiful. Beautiful Finches and Cardnials. 4 Generations of Mountain Folk. ⛰️

All my old stomping grounds! Used to work at Powdermill Nature Reserve in the early 1980s, which is just over the hill from Linn Run. Rappelled at Beam Rocks several times, learned to ski at Laurel Mt, met my hubby at Seven Springs. I’ve lived in SW PA nearly all of my life & always enjoy trips to the woods, although my knees & hips make it a bit more challenging these days. Welcome to my backyard!

Actually Frank Lloyd Wright built Falling Water for the Kaufmann family. I spent the afternoon on a self-guided tour there about 2 weeks ago. But, you are right, it's an awesome highlight near Ohiopyle.

Great video, Cliff! My wife and I spent a lot of time on those same trails. Laurel Summit is basically a picnic pavilion and a parking lot for the trailheads going into Forbes State Forest. Wolf Rocks is a really good hike. We love Spruce Flats Bog, reminds us a little of Dolly Sods in WV. There are a lot of great trails at Laurel Hill. Definitely worth exploring more. I think Laurel Hill is underrated, being overshadowed by its close proximity to Ohiopyle. Anyway, nice to see you make it out to western Pennsylvania! Sorry for the rain...

That was very nice. Those giant trees occupy the entire canopy above and keep other trees from growing. That's probably why there's so much open space underneath to look around and walk. The parks you showed us here should be protected and kept as is forever. It's medicine for when one wants to collect his thoughts. Again very nice, Cliff. Thanks for taking us along.

Sarracenia purpurea....northern pitcher plants!! A rare sight indeed ! They trap bugs in the pitchers, which are still developing at the point you were visiting. The flowers are so unique as well. Sundew are very tiny, the size of quarters, so you have to get down to view those. What a treat! I have a carnivorous plant collection at home, tend to geek out about these things haha! Beautiful area, I am definitely going back to revisit there! Thank you!

When you went the wrong way looking for the falls at Linn Run, did you get as far as the ruins of the old hunting lodge? I hope you got to see them. If not, maybe another day. Also, Beam rocks gives a pretty decent sunrise if you catch it on the right day! Wolf Rocks is also very beautiful! Definitely a longer hike out and back than Beam Rocks.

Cliff would you happen to know what happened to the state park by Linesville spillway? It used to be a beautiful park and had a nice nature center. They closed it years ago and had a sign saying closed for construction. They tore down the nature center and were supposed to build a new but they never did. I was there last year and it's all grown up and the trail is closed. I've tried researching it but haven't been able to find anything on it.
