I am not a craft hoarder. I'm the curator of an extensive private craft supply collection. (Not my saying, but I have to remind myself occasionally). Yes to watching, buying, and organizing my stuff too much. I do, however, check my inventory. If I have something similar, I don't buy it. New tools, however, I don't usually succumb to the hype. Often, it's not really new, just reimagined, and I survived for decades before I retired only buying what I wanted for my yearly holiday cards, using the same die cutting machine, etc. I have bought new tools but I'm very selective. I don't need a glorified laminator, die embossing machine, etc. Looking forward to the summit.

Not only all of the craft stores, but one thing that bothers me is that when you sign up for a craft seminar, watch each crafter's video, then, to get the supply list or written instructions, you have to give them your first name and email address. So now you can be bombarded with emails (daily or weekly) from each crafter! Then you have to go in and unsubscribe from most of them, or it's just overwhelming! Don't know why if you get their "freebie" item, you have to be automatically subscribed. It would be nice if they sent you whatever you requested and ask you if you would like to subscribe to their emails. Wow - I'm done...just wanted to get that off my chest...you two are great!

I really enjoyed the discussion. I am an impulse buyer. Our financial income changed and I realized that II have 100's of REALLY cool Isupplies I have never used even once, and 100's of really COOL supplies I haven't used for years. I started combining my old and my new, learning and trying new techniques. I have a comfort zone which I am really good at, but I challenge myself all the time to watch new techniques or styles using what I have. Right now we are moving so I am going through the withdrawals of not being able to create ANY THING. We rent and our home is being sold and we haven't found a new place to live yet, so I don't even know what my new craft space looks like or WHEN I will get to craft again. I have left my craftroom to pack last. It is a huge undertaking because I have a huge filled to the brim room and 3 closets full of stuff. I should be eliminating things but I have to be ready to move when the house sells, so I can't take the time to make decisions about keeping things or not. I am shrinkwrapping most things, drawers ect. and will purge on the other end. Sigh....

KZbin is an huge enabler, I see what others have and think it’s something I have to have. Plus since my mom died, my heart just isn’t into crafting it brings up so many memories when we went to craft shows and Craft Expos. Aslo I was one day after she died, I was stamping a rose and I just stated crying so hard because it reminded me of her rose bush outside her house by her front door. It was so overwhelming the grief I felt, I just haven’t been able to do another craft since. I miss my mom sooooo much. 😢

Awesome video... After years of DTs & crafting... I was so done with my crafty hoard... I had enough to open my own store... I ended up gifting away what I could, till I ran out of people and places and then I tossed the rest... new, used, opened, or whatever, straight into the dumpster... I had to get it out to give me a fresh start... and now, I am where I need to be, crafting and enjoying my supplies... 40 black trash bags, 20 bankers boxes of 12x12, 6x6, and all kinds of cardstock, and endless stamps and dies...It's the best thing I have done and now I only create for myself and love it. Now I only buy if I run out, if I really need it, or if I really love it after I have left it in my cart for a week or more... and if something comes in, something has to go out...

Great video with lots of good points. I have several monthly subscription kits/products. Two are kit subscriptions I’ve been doing for 2-3 years. When I first got back into paper crafting in 2020 after 20 some yrs, they helped build up my embellishment stash with kit extras like sequins, Nuvo drops, pastes, ephemera. But the reality is I only really LOVE a few of those kit stamps and dies, and now have loads of embellishment products. This past year I have been following a few creators who regularly come out with pattern paper templates (cut up sheet and make multiple cards). I’ve been making multiples, using those templates or using layering stamp, die or stencil sets to make multiples of same design but swapping out color paper or ink. I usually put simple generic sentiments that can be used for different occasions. I then either donate or gift sets of these cards. I was also an independent demonstrator for one company, but lived in a saturated area, so when I couldn’t meet the sales quota would end up buying products that were limited edition but that I didn’t really like. So, bottom line, I have quite a stash, even after making bulk cards.

Once again, thanks!! Cheers! 😊🇨🇦

For me, its all about the fact that I have learned what I enjoy. Sometimes I still want new things. I have let go of some things. I'm changing up my organization and getting to the point where my craft area is joyous. In July I did a 93 card personal challenge to build up my stash. I have some card set gifts to give, I have a ton of Thanksgiving cards to make (about 80), and a steampunk journal to gift in November. Great video; so many valuable insights and tips! I would also add to be careful about attending conventions or using raffle tickets for items at events. Even if you head to a convention with the best intentions(aka window shopping only), the bottom line is that if you see stuff, you will buy it. If you must go to a convention, always have a plan and make a shopping list; I made this mistake when I attended my first Scrapbook Expo, and it really hurt my pocketbook! If you put in for raffle prizes, first make sure it's something that you truly need and can/will use. And remember that if you decide that you really don't want/need any of the raffle items, you are not offending anyone. Simply give your tickets to a fellow crafter or two; that's what I do. When de-stashing, the next time you go to a crop or other event, speak with the host to see if there will be a freebie table for people to contribute items. You can then donate stuff from your stash. Or you could see if the host would be willing to raffle off some of your stuff if it's in good condition. This is a great way to get rid of duplicate items or cut down on excessive hauls. You could also check with your local scrapbook store to see if they ever have garage sales; my local scrapbook store hosts these events sometimes. At the garage sales crafters arrange with the store owner to set up a table to sell the crafty items that they no longer want.

Wow... This whole 30 minutes sounded like you were standing in my living room! I have thousands of dollars worth of stamps and dies and paper. I agree, the paper is so beautiful and I just cannot cut it. A friend convinced me to use the paper but keep a 3x3 square in a "special paper" box. Just to keep and help me feel like I still have that even if I don't use it anymore. It has worked. I also find that as I add pieces to it, I find a piece in there that now emits an 'eh' and I toss it. I am currently going through my stamps. I only need 5 or 6 versions of fonts saying merry christmas. I found I have 54. Ugh... So many sets are being donated to local nursing homes, other crafters, etc. I always have my goto products and love certain vendors so I have that handled. If I am drawn to a random product, I look for ideas using it (pinterest, the vendor, etc.) If nothing seems to be in my realm of talent, I am now leaving it alone. This has taken a couple years of practice and I still succumb at times. I learned to use copic markers from Sandy Allnock. Love that woman. Participated in OWH. Now I follow Alyce from Kit & Clowder and am currently using pencils. It is a learning curve for me but I am loving it. I am stuck on Gina K products for inking and am slowly converting my ink pads. I only buy the small ones and it keeps my stash smaller and I find them much more flexible. Ink that is in high use I will sometimes buy a large pad. l try to find quality product. I am willing to pay more if the quality gives me the effect I need and the product continues to supply consistency in use. I am still a hoarder of card supplies. But I am literally in counseling about my hoarding syndrome. Don't even ask about my kitchen gadgets. I love to cook but do not need 17 different knives! LOL Love the video.

I really appreciate these conversations. I have way more arty supplies than I will ever use up but I still like watching the videos. I had an interesting experience recently that had me thinking about my "stuff". I went to a scrapbook expo - quality companies, wonderful products and great classes on the schedule. I was glad to see good attendance for the businesses but for myself - I realized I already had many of the items available or things similar enough. I realized I already knew how to do many of the skills that were going to be taught. It gave me an appreciation for what I have. "Cute" stuff - I don't do. I saw a lot of kits - I'd rather do my own art. I need to do more creation and less shopping. But I hope more people get interested in creating. Thanks so much for your generous gifts of teaching and sharing thoughts.

Don't know if anyoned else does this but regarding Paper - If its a limited edition, etc or something I just LOVE, I Scan it! then I'll have it, even if it's no longer available. This is just for my own personal use, so I'm not infringing on any copyright, and I often ask the artist or company if that's ok, especially if it no longer available. So many times there's a paper I just LOVE, but it's gone, bye-bye. Then I print it on really good quality paper. My printer is an HP Laserjet Pro MFP M479fdw, it does everything but make coffee! - a little pricey in the beginning, but I only now replaced the sample cartridges after 2 years! It prints magazine quality, so for that reason it's so worth every cent. Around $549 2 years ago. I need good quality for my office work and clients, but mostly for me - photos, greeting cards for family & friends, etc. If the final product is important, then you need good tools. Thanks you two for the video. Your ideas and info are invaluable!

I'm more into techniques. This way I can go my own way. I think the longer you do cardmaking, most of us realize that we can't buy everything and that we probably have something in our stash that we can do the technique. I'm more into buying elements than buying a particular stamp. Although, there are a few times I buy a particular stamp as I just really really like it - LOL. I've never bought $75 of stuff just so I don't have to pay shipping costs. I think that's overkill even if you don't have a stash. I've been doing this almost 25 years so I rarely buy unless it's to replenish something I've run out of like cardstock.

(Second time typing this. First time was deleted when an ad popped up... - sometimes I want to 😵 YT..) With having ADHD, (recently diagnosed) I've learned that if something's out-of-sight, its also out-of-mind. So I try to display my most used craft products as "decor" when I can. The ADHD also means I switch from one craft to another fairly often. With much trial and error, I've learned that even if I'm bored with something, I just need to box it up and store it until I get the "itch" again... That way I'm not repurchasing the more expensive tools, etc. - repeatedly! Of course many supplies work with multiple crafts, so those are the ones that I try to keep easily accessible. Some crafts I turn to often when I have a few minutes to do something I really enjoy. I'll have enough supplies to keep me busy once I retire (in 10 years) - at least until I'm 109, I'm pretty sure!!! Maybe someone will do a class on how to organize for people with ADHD.... 😉

Michele, I just found out that I, too, have ADHD, and am learning a lot about what I need to do to start stamping again! I have a list of things that I wanted to buy, and I am now going to go through and choose the paper only instead of entire kits! I just ordered a ticket for next weekend!!!! TYFS

I definitely watch too many videos and don’t craft enough. I feel a real pressure to make what I see and then I don’t have the confidence to just sit and create myself as they would never be as good.

Watching the replay...I have so many items and I miss making bulk cards...I organize more than anything... Once I organize I sit there like, now what?! 😫 I only make when I need to send to someone.

It’s true everyone on KZbin uses specific dies and stamps to show a technique . Makes us think we need that to to make that card. Then we buy a cheaper similar product and it just doesn’t work out right

It would be lovely if you did some videos showing how to make the card shown with alternative stamps and supplies.

From a master artist. Buy basic rainbow colors of any ink etc. These inks CAN be blended and ALL colors are derived from the basis colors folks. Black and white are not considered a "color". As an artist who sculps, oil paints etc. One brush or canvas can far outweigh the cost of an ink pad or blending brush (hence, cards are my play - fine art is work :)). I stick with Ranger inks. I won't buy others. I have all the basic colors and am not drawn into the NEW stuff unless I absolutely WANT it. I stick with my colors that I LIKE. I stick with stamps for things I like to do. Maybe it is the artist in me that gives me this frame of mind. Most times I can think and create far beyond most on KZbin. Just wanted to throw some artist advice for the newbies to card making. I agree - DO MORE and spend less. CREATE don't just learn. Learn techniques and then DO them. Hope this helps. If not - go price a fine artist brush - just one - ha ha ha

Great live I bought a limited edition and saw one card with that set because only a few people were able to get it so I had no ideas never again Here’s another thing the expense of a stamp set and die set is crazy I haven’t crafter or made a card in 3 years and do want to get rid of all my stuff but it’s hard for me to let it go and I have a lot of stuff

I watch a lot of you tube crafting but don’t always have time to create there and then. Instead I write down the techniques I want to try on “Mojo” cards and pull out a card when I am stuck for ideas.

Thank you for this video. I have not participated in Stamptember in 2 years and the first year was hard but how many LF Christmas stamp sets do we need? And I was tired of missing out on a couple of artists Stamptember release cuz ppl were buying multiples and reselling at 300% mark up on eBay and the shop refused to limit purchases from each account. I don't do monthly kits anymore, either. Also...if you buy something -- not just craft items -- get out those fancy dishes and ENJOY them!! Seriously, THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!! Everything art is beautiful to someone but not everyone and that's okay!!! Have fun and craft on!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I wanna be free flowing with my crafting like Laurel. I have watched so many videos that I'm really overwhelmed & can't decide where to start after awhile away from craft times.

I have way too many stamps and dies as well as way too much paper. I have stopped buying since the PCGO summit but now I'm watching too many videos, especially with all the cool summits!
