Best part is the symbolism between the church windows and Gamzee's corpse position. He is laid out in such a way where his death could be considered BOTH heroic and just, only for Yiffany to just punt him into view to also cut the crowd into both Heroic and Just halves. You just know everyone is going to die in that church.

As far as story and character stuff goes, I think I'm over the more shocking or absurd parts of homestuck^2 at this point. But I think the writing is still very hit or miss and there are things that could be executed better. I still wish the Vriska fight sequence was an animated scene rather than an image and text block, and some of the grammar is sloppy (even in the new chapters). It's getting better, but it's not polished enough yet to call it good imo

@Pelvis Costello Dirk before now was just Dave 2 and when he wasn't that he was a vehicle for Dave's growth, now he's actually interesting. Gamzee is basically the same as he was before a shitty clown juggalo. As for jane throughout act 6 she likes jake doesn't act on it even when given an opportunity and tells him he should consider being with Dirk and then spends the rest of the act pissed at jake for not hooking up with her.

@@johnman8398 I dunno man, I'm pretty sure it's all opinionated like for me personally, Gamzee had debth and wasnt just "shitty clown juggalo." Dirk was able to be devopled as his own character and Jane was just a teenage girl and she didnt spend the rest of it pissed at Jake she and Dirk admited to putting Jake on a pedastal. Also Jake did have some faults to. But like I said it is all opininated because I personally reallly hate homestuck 2 and as well as I dislike most of the writers.

Gamzee all I'm going to add to this that from the commentary Hussie has given in the books that the intent Gamzee is a shitty person and that the stuff he pulls during/after murderstuck is just how he is normally. He goes onto more detail about in the books (And I mean A LOOOOT he just does not like him). Ok I'm not gonna add say anything about Dirk and Jane here since I've already said what I wanted to. And yeah I agree Jake definitely has some faults. For me personally Hs2 is not as good as Hs1 but I like it enough to continue reading and is interested to see where the story goes. I honestly think its too early to fully judge hs2 as a lot can change and it hasn't even been a year yet.

Ok, this update... Is odd, to say the least. Before I explain what I mean, I would like to say you're absolutely free to enjoy this update and the rest of Homestuck^2 all you want, but bear with me, there is just so much in Chapter 13 that raises eyebrows that I need to talk about it. This time, it's nothing reader unfriendly or the like, but rather some points which from a narrative perspective don't make much sense, and I hope you can understand why. Jane has arranged Gamzee's funeral and is livestreaming it for the news. She also brought Jake and Yiffy (Bluh) along, with former holding the latter in a leash. (Sigh) "Why is this a problem?", you might ask. Let me be very clear... Jane is in command of Earth C's government, her way of ruling is not accept by many (which is justified considering her xenophobia, oppression and taking of the Mother Grub) something that led to the creation of a Rebellion, so any logical coarse of action demands her to keep her public image as supported as possible in order to gain favor against her enemies. But apparently, she thinks that putting a teenager on a shock collar and leash in a broadcast that can be seen by anyone in the world is going to help bring the tide to her favor. That's just silly, and doesn't suit her stabilished character in the Epilogues or Homestuck^2 at all. Now I want to talk about Yiffany (hideous name). The prose (narration) regarding her really bothers me... From the very start it casts Yiffy in a sympathetic light, Jake thinks how he knew about her for quite some time and even considers how well she would go along with Tavros. His sympathy for her goes as far as making him let go the leash causing Yiffy to make that scene, and even through she doesn't do much other than growl and kick Gamzee's corpse, the narration continues saying how much she cares about fashion, how she doesn't yield to insults to her roots, how she is determined and fights over fate. (All while Jane gives her electric shocks, guess her popularity isn't at risk in the slightest, right?) The point is, being unbelievably good is not the problem, just as overcoming obstacles is not. Rather, the problem is that all of this was so rushed and had so little build-up that it delivers almost no substantial pay off. Since from the bonus update where Dirk complains about Candy, I couldn't bring myself to care about Yiffy because I knew the story would treat her very well. So yeah, we get this update where Yiffany acts super awesome against all odds without it feeling like something that she earned. Everything around her is confusing, we know almost nothing about her and the story is avoiding to give her any character, instead it focus on how incredible she is and how others are inferior compared to her. No struggle, no tests, no flaws, no tribulation, and we are only left to assume Jane is somewhat dumb and that the whole affair between Jade and Rose was completely reasonable, to prevent our own cognitive dissonance. Which makes me afraid that Yiffany might become a mary sue.

I agree with you, at this point is just too cartoonish. I don't like how they write Jane, they don't give her justice in comparison to HS and neither as a villain in HS^2. She's just too ridicolous as you said, and even because they don't give her depth in regard of her relationship with her son, husband or even gamzee at this point...it looks like she doesn't even reason or think, she's just annoyed with everyone. Jake is kinda pathetic and I don't get the GBDirk? It's just a huge WHY on everything, but I hope everything will be explained at a proper time. Also, i love the concept of Yiffany but seriously she just said Grr...like, who cares? Say something! We get it, it's a "good" character, but what else?

@@valentinacondotta6903 Exactly! Whenever you consume a work of fiction you must feel that your villain is powerful enough or intelligent enough to have got in the position they are. Now, I didn't mind the first time Jane did these sorts of nonsense because I thought she would grow from it, but by the time Chapter 9 and now Chapter 13 dropped out she just seemed pathetic. Also, this whole villain arc she was given in post-canon reads like bs, all we know is that Dirk had a hand on influencing the events and people of Earth C (much like Doc Scratch in Alternia), but they do so little to flesh it out that in the end this feels contrived and pandering to the audience. Many people try to justify it by saying she was brainwashed by the Condesce since childhood and how she acted skeptical or rude to Roxy and the others, but they forget that she eventually worked out to trust her friends and learn how her life das being puppeteered by an evil empress, and that she even deeply apologized after crockertier. I won't tell you what to do with this, if you like post-canon (by which I mean the Epilogues and Homestuck^2) great, I won't take that away from you, I personally hate it and could list all of its problems but I have no problem with anyone liking it, nobody is stopping me from loving Jade Harley (and that love is strong), but I'm at least glad you enjoy it while also acknowledging the problems with it and being civil to criticism, believe me, people like you are hard to find these times. So, to summarize this... Jane has got through all what we saw in Act 6, grew from not trusting her friends and understanding them as well as seeing the evil on her own roots, builded many virtues, strengths and admiration from us... And now they belong to Yiffany, for free. As I said before: No struggle, no training, no losses, no tribulation. In other words, Jane has been provided a very classic example of character assassination, and it's devasting for many readers because it's not just something they don't want to see but it wasn't given any prior reasoning whatsoever, none of this makes sense.

@@spatialexplorerse2971 Well, it's not that I specifically like post-canon stuff (I'm afraid to say I found better fanfiction than this writing, and this makes me really sad) but I am in the fault of liking anything that is "Homestuck". I'm really in love with HS and in my opinion HS^2 could be really improved as a concept. Not even in the hardest of way, it just needs rewrite and adjustements in some point. The plot isn't necessarily bad. And yes, I agree it looks like they kinda forgot character arcs (like jane's) and maybe (but just maybe) working in team on this project wasn't a really good idea. Thank you for the compliment about criticism. I really hate harsh comments on anything and i prefer a fair debate even though our opinion don't collide that much ;)

Look, I can buy HS2 Jane doing these kind of things. Everything in her supposed perfect plan is going down, she has no friends, and her only moral support resents her and have to intimidated and guilted into being at her side. So, I can understand her making so many bad choices. That said, I don't really get Yiffy, her characters introduction was more of like a pet, and the only reason to care for what happens to her it's because you care about Rose and Jade, which right now aren't really high up in the likability scale since both have an affair betraying their respective partners. So, right now I care nothing for her, I'm even more invested in Jake's little adventure of mildly bringing Jane down.

this whole update makes no sence, why was yiffany there, why were there no guards, why would nobody do anything about someone throwing a hissy fit and desacrating a body, why would nobody say or do anything about someone being shocked not only in front of a crowd but in front of a newscast, were they broadcasting live? why would nobody notice the huge ship coming to the church in times of war? why are the most VIP people gathered without protection or security meashures with a hostage in an wide open place like that church? why isyiffany being portrayed as right in this situation when she is just throwing a tantrum without a plan? why do they draw an image of throwing the control to the ground and instead of talking about it spend time describing a backflip they didnt draw? why do I even bother to watch these updates? more questions next video when I come to watch the next update

If it makes you feel any better, the set up also doesn't make much sense. Why of all times Jane decided to kidnap Yiffany when she has know about her since she was born? Why not pull that of as soon as she found out Rose was involved? And more importantly, why is Gamzee still dead? Jane could have bring him back to life any time, and everyone just fail to even mention the very clear fact that she resurrects people. If it is simply that she doesn't want to, then, why his whole frinkin church say a thing about it?

One thing that's so confusing to me is that Gamzee hasn't died before. Like that's a point they make clear in Homestuck he hasn't died before and throughout all of Candy we don't hear about him dying either until Vriska shows up and kills him. By all accounts Jane should be able to resurrect him. But she doesn't. With what went down with Jane and Gamzee at the end of Candy does she just not want to? Or did she kill him sometime when they were kismesis but covered it up so now she simply can't anymore? She completly did a 180 from her parting attitude to him in Candy to this so there's no reason for her not to try. Either way this is unfortunately not the end of Gamzee's smelly corpse. If the rebellion bothers to think on that for more than a second it would completly flip that entire cult in their favor because Jane's either intentionally refusing to revive their messiah or made it so she can't herself because there's no one else that would have managed or even tried to kill him and not known that they'd have to do it twice since Jane would revive him after the first time.
