Here's a fun thought, Every injury Lust suffered drained her stone a little, so if she had suffered one less injury her stab at Mustangs forehead would have connected. Lust suffered a lot of damage in this episode, but if you think back she was also injured one other time, when Hughes hit her in the forehead with his throwing knife to escape. Maybe if Hughes hadn't done that little bit of damage, Lust would have been able to kill Mustang. Maybe one of Hughes last acts indirectly saved his best friend.

You, my friend, are a genius. I've spotted plenty of little details in the show here and there (like - spoiler alert! - Kimblee saving Ed from Pride after Ed spared him in a fight before, costing Ed a lot but ultimately getting Equivalent Exchange out of it), not to mention how this show *thrives* on ironies (how each Homunculus die, for example) and brilliant messages about humanity. But the thing about Hughes possibly saving Roy with that shot? Especially, with the forehead wound - exactly where Lust was aiming? THAT is something I've never heard before. You are a genius, I tell you.

Hawkeye's scream of sorrow is one of the best delivered lines of the series in my opinion. You can just feel the pain and anger in her voice. Also a fun thing to note is the way in which Lust died. An embodiment of lust, manipulating men with her looks and charms. And she is killed by a man who isn't affected by her, and who kills her with a cold unimpressed look in his eyes in order to save another woman.

The trick with Lust is that what she actually represented was not sexual lust (how she looked), but bloodlust (her desire to kill and cause suffering). That she isn't the type of lust she is assumed to be based on appearance is a nice little duality. Her own character flaw was that she desired to make people suffer. If she'd finished off Roy, she'd have succeeded in her mission, but she was too cruel to complete the kill. Her own twisted desire for violence and bloodshed was her downfall.

One thing I really love about this episode yet people never mention is how Alphonse defended Riza against Lust. If Roy hadn't arrived, Lust next blow could have killed him, yet Al refused to stand down or run away. This proves that despite Ed being the title protagonist, Alphonse is a true hero on his own. I love Al :)

Barry's body had decayed really bad. It was crying when it picked his seal up because it just wanted to die already. When it scratched the seal Barry'soul reunited with his body but since it was decayed it was technically dead. Also "thanks for protecting my subordinate" is totally "thanks for saving my woman" in Roy speak lol.

This is my favorite motif of the series. Greed put his own needs over his Father's and so was killed and drunk in one large gulp. Lust toys with two men by revealing her weakness, then is literally killed on her knees by a man she is attracted to. The lady who wrote FMA, Hiromu Arakawa, is the Queen of Irony.
@Foxintox
@Foxintox 6 жыл бұрын
To make things clear (no spoilers) you can't destroy break/a philosopher's stone , however as you know they are made using human souls . Those souls serve as "fuel"for alchemy . That's why homunculi can heal/resurrect , by consuming the souls in the stone . But when you kill them over and over again , eventually the stone runs out of souls , of fuel , and they die for good since they can't heal anymore .

Everything about these videos was great. Episode, reactions, comments. The thing about FMA is that the villains usually grow on us. I even liked Lust, though I obviously cheered when she died. Barry's death may seem weird but it allows each of us to reach different conclusions. I agree with the ones who think Barry's body wanted to rest. It makes sense since the armor only had his conscience, so it wouldn't feel anything to become weary in the first place. It's unclear what would've happened had he goten his wish to chop up his body though.

God the worst part about all that with Roy is that not only did he carve the circle into his hand, he did that while bleeding out heavily from his abdomen, while extremely stressed out about one of his friends who was also severely injured, seared the wound closed without anesthetic, and then sprinted all the way down the hall and proceed to stand for a solid few minutes and kill something by repeatedly burning it to death. What in the actual fuck is he made of.

This has allways been how I viewed Roy+Riza: Relationships whitin the ranks can get you in deep shit, Roy and Riza both know this I'm sure, and you never can be to careful. This was, without a doubt, the most badass scene I remember from this anime, and one of the most badass scenes in general. I remember feeling the same way when I found out Roy was still alive, after seeing the pain in Riza's eyes and anguish in her voice, and the reveal of his survival was well worth it with the way they did it. He couldn't have looked more intense, more... well badass. I was like "They're just trying to make him look even more attractive to Hawkeye, aren't they?" xD And it was at a point when I think people were fed up with Lust causing so much pain, so yeah it was cathartic to see her get her just desserts in the form of Roy taking out his revenge as well as protecting Riza from her at the same time. And it was from that moment on that I was like "Yeah he and Hawkeye are definitely getting married" xD On top of these badass or otherwise heavily emotional moments throughout the series, it also has great pairings. Ed, Roy, and Ling are all great characters, and Winry, Riza, and Lan Fan are all adorable sweethearts, both in appearance and in personality, and all of them are also shown to be tough as nails too, only really showing weakness when the one they love is in pain, but then using that as fuel for the fire. Makes the romance between them all the more satisfying. The same could be said for the guys, where those girls are their weakness too. However it's more than that, since Ed also loves his brother, Roy has other beloved comrades, and Ling values his people dearly. Winry, Riza, and Lan Fan are just ones they value even more to sort of give a scale to how important they are, aside from Ed who I would say values Al just as much, even if people say that the 2003 anime focused more on the brothers. This anime still has plenty of brotherly love. Oh and I forgot even Al has a little sweetheart crushing on him in this. Mei Chang I think? This anime has no shortage on that for people who like romance in their stories, like me xD But the plot goes so deep, the characters are so real and really well done, the voice actors do a GREAT job bringing the characters and their feelings to life, and there's so many heavy themes that both make you think and make you... feel.

I won't pretend to know for sure, but i think the whole "subordinate" thing is sort of a case of "something is lost in translation". Calling someone subordinate in Japanese can have a more meaningful connotation to it. Also subordinates are important to Roy to begin with, so a term of endearment. Also also, i think the only other person that really uses the word is King Bradly so maybe it's doubly used to draw a line between the leader of the country and a man striving to be it's new leader.
@teamcybr8375
@teamcybr8375 6 жыл бұрын
Having grown up in the military, I can tell you subordinate is only ever really used in two contexts (outside of official reports and documentation). A: As an insult/to remind somebody of their place when you're pissed. B: As a term of endearment.
@lazyshoggy
@lazyshoggy 5 жыл бұрын
Arakawa said that Roy and Riza didn't married because of the military regulations forbidding relations between soldiers. If Mustang wants to become the furher and Hawkeye wants to protect him along the way they have no choice but to deal with it. Even if they are aware that they love each other they probably avoid to trigger romantic situations, since they can't enjoy them that would just make them suffer in vain. Restricting themselves to military grades and terms is the best way to keep the distance. Another point is that they both know that they made shit in the Ishvalan war and feel deeply guilty for that. It's such a burden for them that they now dedicate their life to make sure that this won't happen again. It must be difficult for a war criminal who regrets his deeds to be happy and live a normal life with wife (/husband) and children after just a few years. How can you deserve this happiness when your hands are stained by the blood of innocents ? That's precisely what happen to doctor Knox : he feels so ashamed to enjoy a cup of coffee with his family that he cries and ask God to look away for a few minutes ... So, well, an accepted relationship with so much love, trust and respect shared may be overwhelming for those two.

Solidified Mustang as a badASS. What's kinda funny is that I saw part this episode (the 2nd half) at work once, a year or so ago and was like, "This...show looks...REALLY interesting." Didn't realize it was this episode until Lust rips up his glove and then I said, "WAITAMINUTE! Doesn't he, like, carve the symbol onto his hand and kick her ass?!" Since I saw that partial episode, I'd said to myself that maybe I should watch the whole thing...at some point. Oddly enough, it wasn't until a couple of weeks ago when I saw the beginning of your reaction saying how much you loved the show that made me go, "Okay, lemme look for it." So, you spurred me to start the show and I did get sucked in pretty quickly. Can tell I'm hooked on something when i start to have dreams about it and I did yesterday, after watching ep 15. Pepperidge Farm I haven't seen the first series, but from what I know they cut a lot of parts out because they didn't want old fans to have to sit through things they already know, and aren't important to the main story, so they only left the major parts in and continued where the manga left off.

It cuts down on a lot of building up characters though, like Hues, the Tucker family, not to mention it takes away from the dynamic between Ed and Mustang's crew. You get to see Ed build his reputation and mature from a boy who isn't suited for combat really at all to who he is at the beginning of brotherhood, rather than just "oh he is the main character so he isn't afraid of things and can fight." I'd say for a show that's strongest point is its characters these aspects are just as important as plot points. Never mind the horrible decision to start brotherhood with a anime original episode that spoils so much. If you haven't seen the original I'd recommend watching the first 13 or so episodes of it. Honestly the series as a whole is still solid and it was going to be the original story by Arikawa wanted to change it as she went on to something new (which is why Lust's role changes from how she first appears with the philosopher to just expendable villain).

I think the “thank you for taking care of my subordinate” was sweeter than if he used her name. First of all, if he called her Riza it would be inappropriate, since he’s her superior officer and all, and a very formal guy (unlike Hughes for example), and calling her by her last name or by her rank is a little distant (it’s hard for me to explain it in English, cause it’s not my first language, but basically that’s a bit too detached and respectful). To me, him calling her “my subordinate” establishes how much he cares for her. Cause there are many lieutenants, and saying her last name doesn’t show his feelings for her, but considering his philosophy in the subject of caring and protection, calling her “my subordinate” is about as close as he can get to saying that he cares about her and loves her.

That stare off that both Roy and Lust made to each other made me think that it was the first time both of them knew that they'll be married in real life, and they're not happy about it.

So, you ship Mustang and Hawkeye? I think a lot of peeople do. Homunculi death count = 2 You guys really hate Hohenheim, do you? I know that I did not know what to make of him at this point of the anine. He left his family, but in many stories it turns out that actions like those have a good reason. So, good person? Bad person? Something in between? The only thing I was sure of was that he was an *important* character. And your grief for a fricking serial killer? Lol. He was amusing, but he would never have been trustworthy.

Great reaction. You're both good reactors. Yet I must say again, I liked your reaction better than your sister's. You're clearly more invested in the show and the characters. Her reaction is blasé compared to yours. Nothing against her, it's just your reactions are 10/10 and hers are 7 or 8. You make her look worse by being such a fantastic reactor.

The one thing I'll say the "original" anime cleared up better than this one was killing a homunculus. I won't spoil it if you ever intend to watch it, but there is at least an explanation there. In Brotherhood, you get to this episode and it's like, "Oh, you just... hit them a lot? Okay, I guess." It's fine once you know that or if someone informs you beforehand, but it is kind of an undefined factor until this episode just drops it on you.

poobumbutt or you don't notice what they say throughout the series. The lior battle and the first episode shows that philosopher's stones run out of energy since they are fueled by human souls. Once all the energy from the souls are used up it goes poof so does the homunculus. Ed and Al refer to it as an infinite source of energy up until they find out the actual truth about the stones, since the myths and rumours also suggest that the energy source is infinite, which is not the case. After finding the truth, the philosophers stones are never referred to as an infinite source of energy because the characters now know better. It is explained even more during the later episodes. FMA03's homunculi killing was down right dumb. Just because it feeds you info doesn't make it better handled. Also because they don't show you a lot of info doesn't mean it's better handled either. FMA:B definitely could've hinted or made a throwaway line to this prior to lust's death. But even if you hadn't watched the entire series you could still piece the cause together if you are attentive enough and are willing to think about it.

I don't really get Roy X Riza shippers... Not only are they as close to together as they can legally be while serving their country, but a romantic relationship would defy the atonement they wished to make for their participation in the Ishvallen War. I guess it just seems dishonest to the characters, or redundant in some way...
@LaureleiLee
@LaureleiLee 5 жыл бұрын
Well, Arakawa has confirmed that Roy and Riza are a couple, status equivalent to marriage by the end of the FMA manga. And once they feel like their atonement is in motion, that maybe they can lessen the blame they carry, maybe they deserve to be happy.
@NopeJustPatrick
@NopeJustPatrick 5 жыл бұрын
@@LaureleiLee Fair enough, but sometimes happiness like that would take away from the beauty of a relationship. The beauty of the relationship being the reason i assume people ship characters... I guess it's just a matter of different tastes in storytelling.
