"Great season finale and a nice series finale" is a nice subtle expression of her disappointment. Diplomatic and realistic because that would suck to not completely end the show / know that it was done. Especially back in that era of tv when proper over the top finales for shows that went on for more than 5 seasons was very common.

not everyone has a good relationship with their mom (or dad). it doesn't mean those kids are bad people or not trying or ...anything really, that's great what you we're taught from gilmore girls, but it's just that not everyone can feel the way you do. some moms really aren't close to their kids and its too hard for the minors to handle. i think lots of people would love the active, close, talking, relationship rory and lorelai had but don't know how to build it or feel they could.
