Hi Lauren, to be present here live was already fantastic, but now with an even better view of all the musicians and all the instruments they play I realise even more how great it was to experience this live. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Arcana is the latin word for secrets and is used a lot in Tarot. Epica have released a lyric video version where they have used a lot of tarot imagery. The music video is also awesome. I highly recommend reacting to the Ghost in Me from the same show. Based on the classical piece, Danse Macabre, they made a music video to help promote a new attraction at Dutch theme park, Efteling. The new attraction is called Danse Macabre. Again the music video is awesome and a lot of fun, but the live performance is spectacular.

Yes, loved the way you analyzed this. Epica are so good at portraying meaning in their music so it’s nice to hear this type of breakdown. Small tidbit, bass player Rob Van Der Loo wrote the music, Simone wrote the lyrics.

Another fantastic reaction! Music by bassist Rob van der Loo and lyrics by Simone. This is why the bass and drums are so prominent. Simone has said the lyrics are about spiritual evolution to higher consciousness and spiritual self-awareness. Simone Simons on Arcana: “The lyrics are derived from the Major Arcana Tarot cards. I don’t know if you are familiar with them but they basically help you, guide you through your life on your Soul’s journey to enlightenment. A lot of life lessons and guidance can be found in the Tarot cards.” I think the lyrics might be especially personal for Simone if what she has rumored to have been going through in her personal life is true. From another interview as reported in Blabbermouth, "Well, it was kind of a lot of things coming together. Rob [Van Der Loo, EPICA bassist] and I are, besides colleagues, we're also really good friends. And he had a deck of tarot cards with him. And I thought, 'Just for the fun of it, let's do a session. Let me draw some cards and then you explain to me what they mean.' And it was a very enlightening experience, I guess. The song, the music was also written by Rob. And then I came up with the idea, like, 'What if I write a song that's kind of inspired by the meaning of the tarot cards and the session that I had with him and what I think it meant for me at that time in my life and where I am now?' So, yeah, it's a very - how do you say? - soul-searching kind of topic, and that's something EPICA has been writing about for quite a while, but so far we haven't touched on the tarot subject. So I thought this could be a cool topic to integrate in the new album, which is all about reinventing yourself, like a rebirth, renewing yourself. So it kind of a cool thing to draw inspiration from."

If you're curious about where Epica's sound comes from, watch a performance of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana." When they have a live choir and orchestra with them on state like in this video, it even LOOKS like Carmina Burana.

This song is amazing, favorite for the moment. No need to repeat oneself in every reaction video. We know that you know, she can sing. Have not connected the lyrics with the children entering the stage before. Thank you for that idea ❤. Hoping for ghost in me soon 😁

Hi Lauren….hope all is well your way. You are looking fab btw! Great breakdown and review you did here of what is hands-down the best symphonic metal band on planet earth. I thought no one would surpass Therion but damn if these guys don’t do it often times the last few years and they’re in their 22nd year. Love the bass line in the song and interesting bit of trivia it was composed by bassist Rob Vanderloo. Epica just did 2 much bigger gigs twice this size that were at AFAS Amsterdam. Two of them back to back in Mexico at 10,000 screaming fans each performance. The sun is under Epica like never before.

Great song, but i really hate it when the camera over the whole time is no longer than 1 second on the same spot.
