I believe this is an adaption of a well known Russian poetess's work (Marina Tsvetaeva) written about 100 years ago. She was suffering from insomnia at the time and wrote several poems about her experience. Diana sang another of her poems put to music on the Masked Singer in early 2023 which was a beautiful performance. One video of Diana's, in my sight, is a total masterpiece the like of which I don't remember ever seeing before in my long life. It's a must see for anyone that loves singing with unending emotion. The background of the song is essential to know. The title of the song is "Ornery (or "Fastidious" or "Finicky") Horses". The song has nothing to do with horses in reality - the horses are being used as a metaphor for life. The author of song is begging the horses to slow down (he is aware he is approaching death), but, at the same time he is whipping them along (his chaotic lifestyle) - he knows that his lifestyle is taking him to an early death, however, he is unable to change it.....the composer of the song, Vladimir Vysotsky, was a singer-songwriter, poet, and actor as well as an alcoholic & drug addict and died in 1980 at the age of 42. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqabmopvd8iKo7s . Brandon Stone composed this superb song for Diana. It sets a poem that was written in 1916 by one of Russia's greatest poets, Marina Tsvetaeva. Marina was a very troubled and tragic figure. The poem is about alienation not just from the world but from one's own self. Diana's performance is especially poignant because in 1919, only three years after writing the poem, Marina had placed her two daughters into a state orphanage where, a year later in 1920, one of them - Irina, the namesake of Diana's adoptive mother - was to die of starvation. This catastrophe was one of several that punctuated Marian's life at fairly regular intervals. In the end she committed suicide.

Marina Tsvetaeva wrote the poem "In a huge city" back in 1916 after breaking off relations with her beloved Sofia Boyuk and returning to her husband and daughter. It was a period of depression, mental emptiness and insomnia in a huge city. Very modern, isn't it? The poetess explained her unusual connection very simply and succinctly. She said that love between women is wild, and loving only men is very boring. But she called her relationship with Sofia "the first disaster in her life." The rhythm of the song resembles the steps of a lonely, insomniac woman in a deserted nighttime huge city. Diana and Brandon brilliantly conveyed the state of mind of the poetess at that time. Definitely, Diana is an extraordinary pop singer. She creates her own genre - it's super emotional singing and spiritual contact with each viewer through her voice. This genre requires extreme nervous tension from the vocalist. In this, Diana has no equal among female singers.

A carefree youth came to an abrupt end with the death of her mother (1910) and the outbreak of revolution and civil war (1917-1922). She was unprepared for the world outside. Her assets will be confiscated as “non-work income.” In 1912 she married Sergei Efron; They had two daughters and later a son. Efron fighted against the Bolschewiki, and Tsvetaeva was separated from him during the Civil War. Marina Tsvetaeva was a woman with excessive passions, born into a world that had completely lost the measure of humanity. There are many evil depths in Tsvetaeva's life, often stemming from her narcissistically disturbed personality.They don't really fit into the image of the romantic poet, the sensual lines of her poems. Even her most loyal friends were often deeply shocked by her behavior, and fans of her poetry still are today. Despite all the adverse living conditions, everything she ever wanted to do was write. During the period of hunger, she gave her daughters to a children's home out of necessity. Her second daughter starved to death there. In her notes in German (wrote since 1913) Marina Tsvetaeva sketches her hard everyday life full of poverty, hunger, deprivation and worries. At the same time, she thinks about writing and how things begin to shine. “I see everything in my own way.” With every syllable she felt like she was leaping over space and time. Her romantic principles were the dominance of emotion, the dark and the fateful. With her language experiments she goes further than many other poets of her time. “The thought-dash has an accelerating effect - in a mysterious way.” wrotes Josef Brodsky (1940-1996, Russian-American poet and Nobel Prize winner for literature) Marina Tsvetaeva was enthusiastic about Germany, but of course during the First World War this was in complete contradiction to the anti-German sentiment in Moscow. However, her love for Germany as her “inner fatherland” has nothing to do with political Germany. The enthusiasm as the land of Goethe and Kant appears often in her work. She emigrated to Berlin, Prague and Paris in 1922 and found her missing husband again. Tsvetaeva was shunned by the Russian exile community in Paris. She was no longer published after she declared that Mayakovsky was the poet of the future. They were worlds apart but she recognized his originality, his own tone and his radicalism. In 1939 Tsvetaeva returned to the Soviet Union. But the return home was full of horror. All doors were closed. The wild, backward-looking poet is seen as an obstacle to building socialism. Her husband was executed and her oldest surviving daughter was sent to a labor camp. When the German army invaded the USSR, Tsvetaeva and her son were evacuated to Yelabuga. That was one stroke of fate too many. Shortly afterwards, on August 31, 1941, she desperately ended her life and hanged herself. Her grave is still unknown today. "In my huge city" This is a poem written by one of the biggest female poets in Russia Marina Tsvetaeva (1892-1941). Her poems are very complicated and have a lot of meanings. This one is part of a cycle of 11 poems called Insomnia, it is the second poem of the cycle. She wrote this when she was suffering from insomnia, she generally did not like her life during the day and she could not sleep during the night but in that half asleep - half awake dream like state walking at night through a big city she found a certain beauty and that is what she explores and analyzes in this poem. Diana managed to catch the essence of that 'night walking - dreamlike, intoxicating state' with her voice and pass it on to the listeners, another great piece of music has been born between Marina's words, Brandon's music and Diana's voice.

Her voice is completely mesmerizing. She has the ability to hypnotize and transport a person with her voice. I love this song. It is an incredible artistic expression that creates a lucid interpretation of the profound lyrics that were expressed by the author. There is a clip out there of Diana in the setting of the image for the lyric video. I have this hope that this would be turned into a music video. It would be incredible if a well done video was shot with her in her home city of Moscow and put with this song. Maybe someday 🤞❤

I absolutely love your breakdowns of Diana’s songs. One of my absolute favorites from her is “Wave”. I believe she was around 16. It’s also a lyric video with very meaningful lyrics. I listen when I’m feeling a bit down and have shared with many. I really feel that you will definitely enjoy this. Diana has the ability with her voice to take one to a different world. Interpretation of Diana and Brandon’s song “In a Huge City”: The great Russian poetess Marina Tsvetaeva gave birth (not “wrote”!) poems with a quality of meaning inseparable from the sound of her words in Russian. Originally from a poem by the famous Russian Poet, Marina Tsvetaeva way back in July 17, 1916. Insomnia. In my enormous city it is - night... *For informational purposes* On 31 August 1941, while living in Yelabuga, Tsvetaeva hanged herself. She left a note for her son Mur: "Forgive me, but to go on would be worse. I am gravely ill, this is not me anymore. I love you passionately. Do understand that I could not live anymore. Tell Papa and Alya, if you ever see them, that I loved them to the last moment and explain to them that I found myself in a trap." According to the book "The Death of a Poet: The Last Days of Marina Tsvetaeva", the local NKVD department tried to force Tsvetaeva to start working as their informant, which left her no choice other than to die by suicide.
