Jessica Coody is joined by a special guest for this week as the Huskers head to Tampa, Huskers Radio Network Analyst Lauren West stopped by the studio to dive into several topics, how special it's been to cover this Nebraska Volleyball team, what went into the Huskers' punching their ticket to Tampa, her perspective of freshman setter Bergen Reilly, Merritt Beason, Lauren previews the Final Four, giving her biggest keys, all that and more!

This was the BEST episode this season!! First, the ONLY way to experience a Husker volleyball match is listening to the match on Husker radio while watching the tv coverage on mute, as Baylor & Cook-West give both expert commentary and entertainment along the way. Secondly, this current Husker team is just plain FUN to watch, even when they are not playing to their potential....they can play down to the level of their opponent. After each play, point either won or lost, they come back to the huddle for smiles, pats, and encouragement and then go back out and just play for one another. The talent on the floor at any given moment is just elite, and only a few other programs can match the level of play similar to Nebraska; Wisconsin, Pitt and Texas can and just makes sense that all 4 programs make up the Final Four. I will say this about all the accolades being given out to top players across the nation, it is a grave travesty that Laney Choboy's name is NOT on any "Best of Lists," as she has been so important to this team. From her celebrations, stunning defensive plays, and on the court energy, I can see why coach Cook says she is worth 2-3 points every match....seriously though, I cannot believe nobody has any in game injuries from the brutal celebratory shoves Choboy gives after big time plays!!! Kudos to coach Cook and his assistant coaches for recognizing talent early in a players career, and seeing the value in recruiting multiple players in one class who have extensive playing time with one another, especially in club and various National Teams Under 21, Under 18, as building those recruiting ties and relationships EARLY, pays off hugely demonstrated by this years freshmen class. Getting Bergen must have helped in getting Harper, which led to signing Andi, who also played with Laney, and all of them had playing experience with sophomore Bekka, and a few with Merritt. Coach Cook and his assistant coaches should be proud of their past efforts, the hours spent recruiting, selling the Husker vision, and sharing their idea of what a SHARED 4 year Nebraska experience COULD be if all the potential recruits bought into their vision. This freshmen class, I hope they stop and reflect on their HUGE footprint in 2023 women's volleyball so far this year, from hosting 92,003 at memorial Stadium, to defeating a heavy senior team in Stanford early in the season, to becoming #1 in the NATION after defeating a transfer portal best player from every other team Wisconsin. Just wow! Whatever happens next week, I hope Husker fans know that this team is special and regardless of the outcome next week, they are historically entertaining and so easy to root for! GBR!!

You nailed this! You are sooo right! Laney deserves to be recognized so much more. I almost feel like Laney’s play took a little luster away from Lexi this year. Lexi is incredible and is still the best, but Laney made so many crazy plays! As far as this team, we can only imagine how good it can become with this group of freshman with three more years left! And have you been following the comments Jalen has made regarding Caroline Jurevicius and her cannon arm development? And she will still be a freshman next year….

@@LoveLearning521 coach Cook says she is the best overall athlete on the team as well. I just wonder what position she plays on the team next year, as Harper, Merritt, Ally, Lindsay will all be back and incoming freshman Skylar Pierce is highly skilled and promising too. I guess it is a good problem to have!

⁠⁠@@sbuxguyYes, my thoughts as well. I believe Caroline is classified technically as an Opposite, says so too in her pre Nebraska bio and that’s Merritt position. Could she take Lindsey’s or Ally’s position? And yes we have Skylar coming in also. As you say a great problem to have? Do you see Haden Kubik transferring?

Coach Cook must be so proud of this team and his daughter. Joyful tears. I don't know how a State could love this team anymore. GBR PS Coach Reyes and Coach Hunter are the best we are so blessed.

Also I just read the story from the athletic that highlighted the background of Caroline Jurevicius. Why she is red shirting this year and some of her family story. It was also very touching to hear the common ground with Merritt with them both losing an older sibling soon after birth.

I've determined that Lauren will be an important voice, which will play a roll in the development of the popularity volleyball is experiencing right now. Good God she is good at giving this team their identity. It is essential for a voice to represent performances in order to create a connection to the fans. I believe there are a lot of noobs jumping on the Big Red Bandwagon, like myself, who are watching these players and are developing emotional connections to them as a team, and are wanting to know more about the individuals and the gameplay, in general, from an educated, insider perspective. Jessica too; you guys are building better fans and multiplying the fanbase and playing this huge role in expanding this sport to the next level in popularity and interest. There's something special and "magical" (is a good term) happening here around this sport. The surge of talent that's entering the ncaa has jumped a level, and it's everywhere. But putting it all together and creating harmony is key, and in that sense, the coaching seems to have jumped a level too. The TV coverage and production is the third note in the chord. And now the sky's the limit. There's a lot going on here and now, and Neb is right in the middle of it.
