Spike basically made up about 80% of the sarcasm and snarkiness of the entire series since he came around. He was an extension of the audience: always had something to say about each character, had nicknames for them, knew exactly how to solve problems (usually involved killing someone for shits and giggles), and just wanted to bang a hottie.

Well yeah...and Angel got his soul as a curse and had way more remorse because while Spike merely caused destruction wherever he went, Angel enjoyed torturing people to no end. Plus having a soul doesn't change Spike's personality, while Angel becomes threat number one to the main cast whenever he doesn't has his. Also at first when Angel had his soul back he tried to keep being evil because that was his true self. I'm with T_ Glab, everything is fair about it, Spike fought for his soul, Angel had it forced on him as punishment.

+Mauro Sansalone Angel never tried to keep being evil when he got his soul, he still hung around with his old gang which included Darla, Dru and Spike because he had no one else to turn to but he never did anything evil. Darla even pointed out that he only killed criminals, murderers and rapists after he got a soul, which was why she gave him an ultimatum when she tried to force him to kill a baby and Angel still couldn't do it. Again, Spike didn't get a soul for noble intentions, he only got a soul because he knew it was the only way that Buffy could accept him. He didn't even understand what exactly it meant to get a soul, as proven by the fact that in the scene Buffy figures out that he has a soul, he rants about not knowing the kind of guilt it would bring him. In short, Spike wanted a soul pretty much because he knew Angel had one and thought it was an easy way into Buffy's heart. It was a decision made with little to no account for the consequences or the responsibility of actually having a soul.

THIIIIIIS!!! THIS is what I've been saying/debating with people for years! As much as I LOVE Buffy, I always felt more of a connection to the characters in Angel. Angel was darker, more gripping, and made me feel more like I was watching a close-knit, dysfunctional, misfit filled family. Even when Spike fought to get his soul back, the only one to actually care for him at ALL was Buffy. Giles tried to kill him, and Xander gave him a closet for a room. But in Angel, even before they found out about the soul? They wanted to help him. Help figure out what was going on and why he was back. When they realised he had a soul, they immediately accepted him as one of them! Even when he mocked them like a typical sibling does, they were like 🙄 but understood he didn't mean it. Joss Wheadon was a sheer genius of a scenarist! The humor, even the wackyness of otherwise very intelligent scenarios, made Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel two amazing stories about gouls, vampires and heros who fought them, fun to watch and follow from an episode to another. James Marsters and David Boreanaz were a duo of odd balls both adorable, despicable, handsome and entertaining to watch from a story to another.

They ate mostly meats and a little greens while constantly moving and migrating while being hunted by other animals and even other cave men, so they’re bodies were under almost constant strain, making them stronger and better. Loved Angel and Spike arguing David and James had such good chemistry! It was also great when they backed each other up deep down they care about each other really and when it comes to Buffy they have one big love in common. I wish they never cancelled the show! It was better than buffy in my opinion

They had such big rivalry and you can see that and still do even when spike got a soul but really they are friends in the end that fought the good fight till the end. Was so happy when Spike I’m buffy got a soul he was a character you didn’t want to hate. I really wish they brought this show back for one season

Well there is a big difference here. The prequels to Harry Potter don't feature the cast of Harry Potter. This one most definitely would require the original cast and the original cast is way older now. Doesn't work.
