It's only been a little over a year since I gave both XCDE and XC2 a chance. I was burned out on video games since 2017 to a point that no game brought me joy, not even the only remaining game I played during said burnout (that being Super Smash Bros. Ultimate), and while I bought XCDE upon its launch in 2020 I only played it for about an hour, just entering chapter 2 before putting it away... It was a vacation in Summer 2022 that I brought XCDE along again, and on the flight home, I got to the iconic cutscene at the end of chapter 2 that left me clamouring for more. From that point, I was in love with the game and cherished every bit of the 87 hours that followed. And in spite of XC2's growing pains surrounding consumable items and affinity charts, it too had me entirely immersed throughout my 90hr with it. In addition to wonderful character writing, worldbuilding, gripping gameplay, and adrenaline-pumping battle music, the stunning environments and equally captivating compositions had me genuinely taking breaks to appreciate it all - it's a feeling I'd never actually felt in gaming prior to XCDE The two games pulled me out of my burnout on video games and got me to finally finish games like Freedom Planet, Spark the Electric Jester, Spark 2, Spark 3, Sonic Frontiers, and Stray, as well as starting on Crash N Sane, Spyro Reignited, Red Dead 2, and the entire Yakuza franchise. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention other recent gems like Hi-Fi Rush and Pizza Tower. After I've gotten through the games in my backlog, I'll finally get around to finishing XCX then starting XC2 Torna. I know tons of ppl have already chewed through XC3+FR, but I really want this franchise to remain a satisfying slow burn - it restored my love for video games after a half-decade of burnout
