I'm finally on my way west!! After a couple weeks of waiting for a package, watching the weather, and changing my plans quite a bit, I am finally pulling anchor and bringing the sails out! This was a true shakedown sail, things broke, things acted up, and I tested the new rig in various wind and wind angles.
Give a little extra support 💞 The circumnavigation is JUST beginning... all of your help goes towards more gear to make the videos a bit better and the boat safer and more functional for myself as a single hand (and maybe an extra treat for Mako)

I think a lot of people start watching Lauren because she is beautiful and a solo singlehanded sailor. Once people watch, they will come to realize how capable Lauren is at all phases of sailing. If she was my daughter, I would be so proud of her.

Having a similarly aged daughter myself, I've changed. Yes, in the past a beautiful woman on a yatch might have been a typical attraction, but not in this case. What picqued my interest upon seeing this channel (I follow a variety of sailing channels), was primarily from a concerned parent perspective. Is she safe, competent, and learning? I just couldn't help but think of her as I would my own daughter. Often wonder what's going through Lauren's parents minds 😂 One has to learn to let go, for sure. But that doesn't stop you checking in! Yes to all three!

Im very happy to see you err on the side of caution as far as your trip planning. As a solo sailor, it is paramount. Those conditions you were looking at are no joke when you are alone. One malfunction as you know, can lead to catastrophic consequences. I support your decision 100%.

I miss sailing so much in one way and then I know I can’t move around the deck like I used to. My friend and sailing buddy passed away a few years ago at 90 years old and we had made a great trip when he was 89. I always loved to sail down wind wing in wing there was something so peaceful and smooth about it and those beautiful sails reminded me of angels wings. Thank you so much for your beautiful episodes they feed my soul. Stay safe and stay the course ☮️ out my little sister until next time.

When i was a teenager I had a couple sailboats. The last one was only 22 ft venture. I am amazed at your ability to sail that boat by yourself. 59 year old man now with a 20 ft motorboat. Thinking about selling it and getting another sailboat. I have only boated on lake Erie. Other than being on a cruise ship once in the Bahamas. ✌️👍👋

I have my cat and small dog on board my 53ft Norman Cross trimaran . I've done a fair amount of work to my stanchions and have added 19mm x 19mm cat enclosure netting to the entire front deck so they can both roam freely with the security and knowledge that they will be as safe and secure as i can possibly make them. Its a very cheap option and has also saved the loss of a few tools etc overboard . If you want i can fwd you a few photos , It looks pretty good too , i did it in black but its available in off white also and the leading edges are hemmed so it looks pretty tidy. Another yacht has also done it as they approached me for the links on ebay since they got a puppy . Love the vids !

Rhumb line it. We did and had a great sail. Shelter bay is good. The wind will die down as you approach. 2 reefs in the main and half a headsail poled out to port and keep the sails as flat as possible and the sheets tight with a mainsail preventer you can avoid the noise from sails and boom. Enjoy.

The boat looks great! You did a better job than anyone could have. Regardless, you are not ready to cross an ocean. You are a the greatest Bahama and Caribbean sailor ever. But this is easy compared to open ocean sailing. You pick your weather since day one. Ocean crossings do not allow you to pick weather. You must have experience sailing in 30' seas and hurricane force winds. You need special equipment like an emergency bilge pump, and a life raft if you want to live. And long rage radio like SSB. And bungs for a broken through hull fitting. You need someone who has crossed an ocean before, or you may never sail again. And you can't stand watch 24/7. And you need a pro medical chest. Sleeping on watch is not safe. Beautiful video! 18 to 22 knots is perfect for a sailboat, not a challenge at all. And you are dependent on auto-helm. It will break in a ocean crossing. You also need 25 gallons of emergency water and 50 gallons of emergency fuel, used when your water and fuel tanks are contaminated by salt water coming in the overfill fitting. Or the fuel and water pump breaks. Who is going to drive the boat 24/7 with no auto helm? Your cat? :)

You may want to check other videos on you tube of people sailing across the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean on smaller sail boats than what she has. They take as many supplies as they can cram into every nook and cranny as possible. Plenty of water emergency life raft etc. They use a wind vane auto pilot, i believe it may be the least expensive one. She has more equipment and a nicer boat than others had used for sailing across oceans. Im not sure if she intends to sail around the world or not. She's doing great considering most people don't chase their dreams.

one small thing Lauren, Love it that you get a shot of the instuments when sailing. not many sailing channels do that. Being a sailor its cool to see. Can you do a small change to your setup? instead of depth, can you show apparent wind direction and speed? it gives a better sense of whats going on while you're sailing. Depth for me is just a meh while sailing in open ocean.
