She explained a toxic relationship to the tee. I've been in this situation too many times. Thinking we're making progress and being shot down to be told it's not working. And then every time i was ready to end it, this person would jump every obstacle and climb every mountain to get me to stay. It took me 7 years to get out of the situation for good and this song just sends me back every time i hear it.

It's common for relationships to encounter obstacles, but there is always a solution. My own marriage faced considerable issues, but with appropriate guidance, my husband and I worked through them and deepened our connection. Solutions are achievable if you're ready to work together. The fact this woman was 23 years old when this album was released! Her mind was beautiful, her hair, her skin, her delivery, her vibe, her ESSENCE was so pure and smooth af! The way she wrote about what she was going through and turned it into a forever relevant masterpiece is amazing. You can tell, her putting out this one album her whole career allowed her to get some shit off her chest and I appreciate that. I am in my 30's and I can honestly say I cry the best healing tears listening to this song and the album itself.

Music is so therapeutic. Heard this last night at work since forever & I still remembered every line. Although he's a different genre, that's why I love Trent Reznor (NIИ). He has written every lyric himself & he went through some very dark times. To know that someone you respect knows what it's like makes you feel less alone. Now, he's in his 50s, has a stunning wife (Mariqueen Maandig), 5 kids & is getting his due respect in the industry. He's one award away from an EGOT, putting him in the same group as John Legend, Elton John & very few others.

This song is THEE song every woman can feel when you’ve really been through it. The manipulation, the fluctuation of emotions, the same cycles! It literally is CRAZY I heard this song on my playlist when I was contemplating leaving my relationship and it actually helped me walk away . Lauryn was in her complete BAG with this song

I love how the director used blue light on her skin; good directors will do things like that to create something signature that the viewer will remember; a visual pop song. It creates a great effect that compliments the song. I love this album, Lauryn slayed it with her vocal delivery back in the day. Love how this song becomes more signifigant once you go through it as you get older.

Man this song hit me deep in my core. My wife and I are having lots a trouble loving each other. I love her so much and I try so hard to make her proud. My daughter played this song for me and all I could do is cry. Such a powerful touching song. If you're reading this in 2020 pray that love conquers all.

I am so blessed to have been alive to personally experience that Lauren Hill, India Arie, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Aaliyah, Angie Stone (ect) music era praising natural minimalist black beauty and brown skin. The ending of this time period praising beautiful black woman is the start of the sabotaging of the image of brown skin and natural hair being beautiful which lead to this fugazi ass era we are in now where black woman are not taking pride in themselves because they don't feel like they are enough and black men dishonoring the culture by disrespecting and degrading his counterpart more frequently and publicly while simultaneously uplifting the Europeans standards of beauty. We are trying to get back there and I have absolutely no doubt that we will in time. I love you Ms. Lauren Hill, thank you.

Cosign you 100%. Beautiful era in soul music highlighted by artists with substance, talent, and something of value to say. Lauryn Hill might be the most talented artist of her generation. Wonderful singer, brilliant rapper, and great actress who was disillusioned by the reality of success and stardom. She hated it and it really hit her psychologically.

I feel like getting right in there and fighting back as Wyclef. That's a compliment on the realness of the song I guess. She's singing like she's singing but speaking in absolutes and throwing attacks in sweeping cascades. That guitar solo at the end is a machine gun blast dawg. What a bloody song
