We were there in Juli this year on a wednesday and there were not so much cars driving there. Because almost all tourists (including us) are using the train. So the train stations were busy everywhere.

I've grown up and lived my whole live in the valley, at the end in Stechelberg. Lauterbrunnen is far away from a beatyful village. I've seen many many much more beautyful villages in Switzerland and beyond. I guess it's the green and the water that attract tourists. For the locals the tourism has become too much and many elderly people don't even go out during the day because they can not go through the mass safely. We as locals feel we just are in the way now and would better move away. It got just too much over the last few years and the social media spots destroyed all the beauty of the place by get crowded and disrespected the nice spots. The people don't know our culture and behave as they like, which annoy the locals most the time. I have some hidden spots, who are still magic and I would never share them on any platform. If it get worse, I will move away, maybe out of Switzerland. Everybody just looks at the money and the business and forget to keep the beauty of our land for the next generation. Sorry for the grant but it's a major theme here in the valley. Cheers and enjoy jour holiday responsibly

Hey. Totally agree with you. I talked to many locals and they feel similar to what you just outlined. I also feel many visitors just come with the wrong expectations. A friend from abroad once was serious abt saying he wants to milk a cow by hand because he saw it in a movie and he wants to experience Switzerland this way. That was so weird because he was totally serious about it. I was once waiting at the train where everyone is taking photos, there was an "influenza" taking loads of pictures of the exactly same pose and was frustrated because she always looked the same. She needed 10 minutes, people were quite annoyed. Gladly i made new friends during that time😜 Liebi Grüess us Schaffhuuse. Bi üs ischs eher ruhig. Ide Stadt und ide Dörfer. Even I as a tourist witnessed this... it's why I chose to stay in Wengen rather than Lauterbrunnen, at the majestic Hotel Victoria Lauberhorn, which even though it has only 3 stars, feels like 4 stars superior. I wish the local authorities in Lauterbrunnen would build a giant car park at the entrance, and forbid traffic - like in Saas-Fee, for example. Whoever wants to go to Stechelberg can take the bus, or the scenic route: cable car to Grütschalp - train to Wengen - cable car down.
@mysterioanonymous32066 ай бұрын
I totally get that. I live in central Switzerland which is comparable in terms of landscape but still very under the radar and frankly I hope it stays that way. It'd def ruin our place here so I'm kind of glad you guys get all the tourism instead of us tbh. Tourism is pretty low value added. The few hotel and gastronomy jobs aren't interesting for Swiss people anyways since they pay is somewhat low, so that isn't a sector we should develop beyond a certain limit.

Agreed. While it's a most beautiful valley, for me it's simply a stopover point to change trains to go up either cliffside. Murren is my favorite, though the views from Wengen and the Mannlichen should not be missed. BUT if you decide to walk the valley from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg--now there's a beautiful walk! And very few tourists.

Hi Choon Kiat. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I have never been to Hallstadt, but I feel Hallstadt faces pretty much the same problems as Lauterbrunnen. I guess many of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland are too far for many to reach, e.g. Grimentz or Guarda, Ardez etc. Thus, many people would not want to go there. In the end, many visitors always choose hotspots for their first, and probably only trip to Switzerland.

I don't see that many people there. Are Swiss people allergic to people? Lol Just a joke, I hope no one gets mad at me for that. What I mean is that one can say the place is not that quiet anymore, it's more crowded, more 'touristy', but I don't see how it can affect the beauty of the place. For me it's still beautiful. That's what happens with all the extremelly beautiful places around the world. They get famous and more people also start dreaming about visiting, it's curiosity, it's human, it's life, it's normal. It happened to places like Santorini, Venice and even to these beaches in Arraial do Cabo where I live, in the north coast of Rio state. After ppl started advertising the place as the 'Brazilian Caribbean' it got way more crowded. Sometimes this also makes me miss the old days, but I understand that those people also want to have the chance to be in such a beautiful place.
@DjemoGraphic6 ай бұрын
Hi. I agree with you that many places are getting more popular because they now can be easily advertised by people. I think the main problem is that traveling has become way to cheap and people can fly 7 hours away just for a weekend trip. Traveling has become a mass product for many people. There are many visitors who come to Lauterbrunnen only for taking the picture at the trail and then they leave, not spending any cent in the village itself; same happened to Iseltwald. This is a form of tourism that does not benefit the destinations but burdens the infrastructure. I filmed this video in May 2023 and during August 2020 when there was still the pandemic. That's why the village was not that terribly crowded as it was in July/August 2019, 2022 or 2023. It's actually true, Swiss people prefer it not so loud and more quiet, so you are kind of right. About Lauterbrunnen itself, you said it right: The place is very beautiful - which i very much agree with you - though the people mostly talk about the valley and the waterfalls, the village are the houses and the man made structures, they are just okay. There are definitely nicer villages in Switzerland.
@bobmald135 ай бұрын
I don’t know if it’s the “most beautiful”, but I was truly amazed. As an American who lived in Germany as a kid and traveled to a lot of places, I was not expecting to be so blown away. I loved it. By the whole country honestly. But we were also probably a little lucky because there weren’t a ton of tourists.
@DjemoGraphic5 ай бұрын
Hi Bob. The place is fantastic, the deep valley and the waterfalls. I think the manmade structures are just okay. And sadly, these days the village became extremely touristy. I noticed the pre-pandemic year 2019 that people already found too crowded is quite an understatement of what the situation is like these days. There is literally a travel rage going on. Even now in not so touristy June, places like the Rhinefalls etc are already very crowded. It's getting worrying.

In addition, there seems to be some revolving chair lift some 1.5 hours away from St.gallen where you end up on top of the mountain and experience snow in the summer, like walking on snow. That sounds really good, do you have any videos or suggestions on that. Basically my overall impression is that mostly the rent either hotel or other airbnb type is expensive in addition to the travel but if one plans budget ahead and visit even a few places, it's worth it.

It doesn't have to be the most beautiful village in Switzerland. Being even among the hundred most beautiful is enough reason to visit there.

15 years ago, it was beautiful and not crowded. Now it’s too crowded, i will go other places!! In the winter, it’s gorgeous!! I think you are somewhat negative!! Are you trying to discourage people to go there!!😁

Hi Nikki. 15 years ago was before Instagram :) I have visited Lauterbrunnen for the first time during the pandemic in August 2020. Can you believe I recorded the footage of the many cars passing by in Summer 2020 when only European and local Swiss visitors came. Even in Summer 2021 and 2022 it was very crowded. I recorded my A-rolls in May 2023, it was fortunately less crowded but still many people and cars were around. I love Lauterbrunnen but I usually wrinkle my fronthead when people say it's the most beautiful village of Switzerland. There are definitely many more beautiful villages. Lauterbrunnen is still beautiful. The valley itself is undoubtedly among the top 3 valley of Switzerland, it's my favorite one. I do not try to discourage people but trying to give them a more realistic insight into Lauterbrunnen. I never hear people saying the houses are amazing, they say it's the most beautiful village because of the waterfall and the valley. They talk more about the location and nature than the village.

He is not being negative, just an honest opinion from a native Swiss. I have visited Lauterbrunnen many times, usually on my way to Murren or Wengen, I completely agree with him it’s very touristy/crowded/congested, small, and not many shops. There are better towns.
@nikkioperas7 ай бұрын
Agree with you both, but the setting of the village is what I value the most. After all the tourist busses leave, in the evening, it is very peaceful. And the lighting changes through the the morning, evening and night can be amazing, as can the movement of the clouds up and down the sides of the vertical cliffs. No place on earth quite like it. Not even mentioning the magic of having a full moon light up Staubbach Falls!

@@DjemoGraphic Hi, many thanks for the suggestion. Sounds great. Though, what would be recommended to visit from St. Gallen considering a budget travel? It seems that there are no direct connections to most places from St. Gallen. Flix bus though comes there but does not seem to go any further to Swiss destinations from St. Gallen. Is there any local cheap model bus like Flix or SBB is the only way? The thing is that with platform changes that need to be done rapidly, sometimes connection to the next train is misseed. It would be nice to know the possibilities to travel from St. Gallen without car, so public transport is the only option.

#1 way to dramatize busy traffic...stand directly in front of incoming traffic and record complaints.
@DjemoGraphic2 ай бұрын
I do not deny that I was walking on the edge of the road. The busy traffic still a reality. The busy traffic meanwhile has become a lot worse so that Lauterbrunnen is now imposing an entrance fee for each car. The many cars I recorded during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, its far busier now.

Hi. I agree with you. Villages are not necessarily a big thing for tourism in certain countries. Lauterbrunnen is definitely well taken care of and really can compete internationally. But in Switzerland, there are definitely nicer villages with better village feeling and nicer houses.

I love Mürren! But theres many nicer villages: e.g. Rocamadour👍🏼
@wyqtor7 ай бұрын
@@DjemoGraphic I guess it also depends on one's tolerance for the tourist crowds! I was fortunate enough to visit Mürren in 2021, so it was pretty quiet because of the pandemic. But the natural scenery is unparalleled in Europe, I think only in the Himalayas you can find that kind of a setting.
