The lava in this video is going nowhere near a 'coastal town'. This flow is in the north. There are _mountains_ between here and the town.

It's not advancing towards the town, this is near the blue lagoon, a resort and is headed northwest, there is no town nearby in that direction. Grindivik is south east, and very far away with some large hills/small mountains in the way. This eruption is cool enough without needing to make up clickbait for views.

Blue Lagoon spa & resort is safe. Ignore this volcano, and the wall of hot lava surrounding the pools. Make your reservations today !!

Sadly, the Blue Lagoon is closed through June 11. We had reservations to visit during a layover and they were canceled by the resort. Very disappointing.

@@summerstreets3808 Disappointing?! Really! Do you want to end up being cooked in the blue lagoon like a boiled chicken? 😂

@@xmj6830 Obviously not! The closure makes perfect sense. The disappointment is that we don’t get to see and experience the Blue Lagoon, which we were very much looking forward to. I do hope everyone in town will be ok and no homes destroyed.

@@summerstreets3808 Then why are you disappointed if that makes perfect sense? Are you not having a little bit of spoiled brat attitude because mother nature has decided to spit a bit of lava? Here a gentle advice; live happy with what you have and not on what you could get...😁

Slower cuz that's A'A not Pahoehoe. Our's only lasted 12 days and went back to sleep. Up in the middle of nowhere. Roads can be cut again, lava isn't granite.

Erm actually it was for 12 hours 🤓but yea that's aa, it's very glassy unlike pahoho which flows quite quick

It takes a long time to cool down, you are not going to be cutting through it any time soon. And you are definitely not going to be doing anything to it while it is still moving 😂

Slow and steady wins the race. Looks like the lava is winning.

"Roads can be cut again, lava isn't granite." Yeah but when this lava cools it becomes solid basalt.....

Slower, but bigger. In many ways these slow but very thick lava flows are more likely to overwhelm the walls than faster moving, but thinner, layers of lava.

I wonder how hot that lava is?

Hotter than your stove I assume. It I put a rock on my stove top, or in the oven it will never melt like this. The raw temperature is one thing, however, it is the sheer volume of material with enough heat to glow red that makes the hotness so much worse than an oven. When those power poles were burning the other day, the radiant heat from the lava was sufficient to set the tops of the poles alight. This lava is not quite as hot as that fast moving runny stuff, but it is still enough to makes the rock molten. The reason people can be close to the lava here is because most of the outside of the rock has cooled down to being black, and it acts like an insulating layer from the greater heat underneath.
