eddie may Mayweather Jr and Sr had a pretty messed up relationship when Floyd started finding success, though. I think it's fair to say that people are predicting the same with Lavar in this situation (i.e. Lonzo will be a stud player, but will be playing to live up to the astronomical projections that his dadhas been heaping on him through the media ).

He has raised 3 good young men who happen to have a passion for the game and play at a high level. .. And he pushes them to be great..Parent do this all the time, he just happens to be black, direct and has a son that backs up his comments. ....curry comparison yeaah to early to say and far fetch..but outside of that you gotta love the support he gives his boys. .. His points on pressure really won me over.

Then, my father never cared too much about me playing or ever went to my games so it killed my passion. Lavar seems like the father figure I wish I would've had growing up. He is clearly that loudmouth father who wants the spotlight. He claims that greatness comes from setting these high goals and claims others don't get there because they don't do the same... so why didn't he accomplish anything before these kids? I get he seems like a good dad... but I am starting to feel more like he wants the spotlight and credit. My mom always said don't count your money before you earn it, big baller brand, saying he is better than Steph. Sounds like all he wants more than anything, is to be able to say, "I told you so."

I am awed simply by his way of talking about his sons. The confidence in him about his sons is just sky high, and by all means that's what I call a great dad. He gave confidence to his children since they were young, and because they were raised in such environment they are able to execute when they are old as well. NBA is a league that requires someone 'special' I like to say, and witnessing how their children play they are really something 'special'. And I can't find anyone, NO ONE, other than Lavar to be credited for that matter. Keep doing what you are doing Lavar, I and not only I but many have faiths in you and your family.
@MrOu83
@MrOu83 7 жыл бұрын
Philip Jung - I bet Dell Curry did that (instilled confidence) to Steph as well, and look how that turned out. What Dell Curry didn't do is try to live vicariously through Steph. He did not make appearances on ESPN and other shows touting his son's greatness, proclaiming him to be better than superstars already playing in the league, even before his son put on an NBA uniform. In the immortal words of President Theodore Roosevelt: "Speak softly, and carry a big stick." Example: Kawhi Leonard

Problem is, none of his kids are 'something special' minus Lonzo, but Lonzo is about to be traded. Lavar simply can't take criticism, and it is shouldered by his kids, because he; pulls both kids out of school, sends them overseas to play in a country and a league none of them had heard of. He declines a shoe deal because its not enough money, and now his only talented son, Lonzo, is on his way out of LA.

Venus and Serena's dad used to say the EXACT same thing. Raise your life thinking greatness and keep them comparing their talents to the greats. Why waste time comparing yourself versus average? There's no award for being above average.
@MsToca
@MsToca 7 жыл бұрын
Austin Austin I agree 200% with your comment. His belief will transfer on to them. You've got to raise them to be the best at whatever they do. Serena and Venus' dad had so many media folks calling him crazy but he knew his daughters' talent and work ethic. He Ended up being 300% right. As long as they keep working hard, being disciplined and perfecting their craft they'll be great too. At anything in life.

Rafa Nadal tells himself he is an average guy and that he is not special because it motivates him to keep working hard and rising above the competition. If you tell yourself that you are the best, you lose motivation to keep improving. As you are improving, there is always going to be a player better than you(except when u are lebron of course), I dont get why you would compare yourself to anyone, just focus on your own game and improvement and be the best u can be.
@MrOu83
@MrOu83 7 жыл бұрын
Austin Austin - Richard Williams did not come out of the gate saying Venus and Serena were already better than the greats who were playing the game before they even turned pro. He correctly predicted that they could become great players. He predicted that Serena would become the better of the two sisters. Although he sometimes said some unsavory things about the people who unfairly criticized them, he still allowed them to be adults. I see Mr. Ball being an overbearing control freak well into Lonzo's adulthood ( provided Lonzo doesn't put a stop to it).

I'm largely in a wait-and-see type of mode. How well you perform in high school and college doesn't always correlate to how well you will do in the NBA because you're largely playing against people who weren't close to good enough to make it to the NBA. Once you make that leap, the competition level dials up quicker than boss fights in a Souls game. Not every player makes that transition the way LeBron or Davis have. Sometimes they look like Curry where he's good but takes a while to turn into something great. Sometimes they look like Kwame Brown. Right now the hype is for scouts, coaches, and GMs. Fans can just chill.

The smartest thing that this man said is that "It's entertainment." It ain't a matter of life and death. It's a game at the end of the day and a basketball player wouldn't be famous (or any sport player for that matter) if it wasn't for the people paying for the entertainment. Now as far as his son being better than Steph Curry, I'm not agreeing with any of those assertions. lol
