LAVDATE DOMINVM HELLOWEEN cover

Me playing "LAVDATE DOMINVM" by Helloween! I don't really know how this is supposed to be spelled, the album sleeve is sort of ambiguous. "LAVDATE DOMINVM" brings up Helloween all over the internet, "LAUDATE DOMINUM" brings up Mozart, so I've kept the "V" to avoid confusion. I don't know why, spelling is hard.

Lots of great songs from all eras in my opinion! I think they basically have to play the most popular songs, whatever they are. Here in U.S., few people even know who Helloween are, or they only know "I Want Out." People constantly confuse them with Grim Reaper for some reason. In fact, they rarely tour here, but I was lucky enough to see them a few years ago, and I thought they were great. I was so happy to finally see them, I didn't care what they played!

Since 2010?! Holy smokes, I've been doing this a long time. It may look easy, but you are correct, I'm actually working very hard. It's so good to know people are watching and can appreciate it. I've been listening to Helloween since the 90s and I think the fact that they are not more popular in the U.S. is indicative of larger societal problems, but I won't get into that. @gram440a heyy i read your coment about the bname of the song, it a latim language. in latim the V simbol is used ... but the Sound is like the U we use im portuguese, thats the reason you find writen with U.

Congratulations for the playing. Very nice. On the spelling: both forms are correct; in a certain period the U replaced the V in such locations. The V form means that the Latin used is olde, very old in relation to the one that uses the U. So one can date a Latin text just by looking at these uses. The "modern" Latin only uses the U in such cases.

yeah, great song budy. About the spelling: in the old (classic) Latin only -v- were used: Jvsus; during the Medieval times, Jesus, quo, pravanque started being used... But I liked you used the letter -v-, because this is how Helloween wrote in the album Better than raw, where this tune were initially lanched. (Btw, i were draged into metal due to this song and to Carry on, by Angra, a Brazilian band...).

It is spelled "laUdate dominUm" (and means "praise the Lord") but it is written like that because in old Latin there was no distinction between V and U in writing, V was used to write down both sounds. Depending on the position in a word, letter V was pronounced either as V or U. Hope it makes sense. By the way, awesome playing mate, some of the finest I've seen here. Keep 'em coming!

Thanks! That part is actually in Db MAJOR (if you factor in the tuning.) It's just a little scale run, harmonized in diatonic thirds with 2 guitars. I simply play the high part the first time through, and then switch to the low part for the second!

They have this great song at their disposal and year after year they insist to play songs from Kiske era. I love kiske, but Deris era is so full of great songs, especially 94-98. They don't need to be so pedant playing songs he can't sing that logically sound awful. How great would be a tour playing the whole Master of Rings or Better Than Raw albuns? Deris singing at his own high without needing to turn down the tune of the instruments? EPIC!! WAKE UP HELLOWEEN!!

I usually do lots of takes, but it depends on how difficult the song is. Sometimes I get lucky, and sometimes it takes an hour or two. Sometimes I get a good take early, but then I keep going just to see if I can top it. I don't save my outtakes, unless something REALLY funny happens.
