Does anyone else notice that the three images she chose are like the three extremes of liminal spaces? You have the vivid feverish space (theatre), the bright but unsettling space (the school) and the dark and murky space (the cave). Idk if this was intentional but either its amazing, like the three monsters make up some liminal space council
@Observer_Decay Жыл бұрын
Probably semi intentional. She probably wanted 3 totally different pictures to create unique characters

This is a rather interesting idea especially because most media about liminal spaces use more threatening entity's but the concept of someone inhabiting the places between our memories is sorta interesting less outright hostile and more unknown

Once when I was in elementary school, we had this “after school” party with just my class. So we stayed after until like 9 pm, and we watched movies just as a class. We all ate pizza for dinner, and when we were done I was given the task of taking the pizza boxes down to the trash. So I had to walk down the halls of the school at night. It was weird because there were only a few lights still on. Some the the halls had a light or two on and others were pitch black. I found it really cool and creepy, but that was one of my experiences with liminal spaces

Honestly whenever I see a particularly disturbing liminal space the scariest thing for me is the possibility that there IS something lurking, but you never see it. Cube is baller, can't say the same for the sequel, nor the spin-off "Cube: Zero" Hypercube had some interesting ideas about the space becoming a tesseract instead of a normal 3D cube, and the rapid ageing or gravity traps, but they were poorly executed and missed the point of the first movie, as a psychological horror movie that studied the human psyche and how quickly peoples' trust in each other could break down, and how characters dying affects the group dynamic.

i like the aproach you took in comparason to the backrooms monsters, the backrooms monsters are suposed to be what your brain fills a liminal space with, like gigantic smiles in the dark, a creature that looks like a human but its a monster in disguise, gigant versions of bugs, etc. while your aproach is creatures more "magically realistic" rather than "dreamy", they feel like if they had feelings and not just hunger or hate. anyway both backrooms monsters and these would scare you if you saw them a first time.

This whole concept of characters and liminal spaces has a name and a classification. Depending on the moods, they are either dreamcore or weirdcore, but there are many sub-classifications under those too, such as kidcore and nostalgiacore.

I've always loved characters that have some sort of object in place of a head or face, especially when the entire head shape is changed. It's just so surreal to me, and thats the exact same feeling I get when looking at liminal spaces. There's just something so otherworldly and hauntingly beautiful about them both. These were all so cool, keep up the amazing work
@cardboardking5772 жыл бұрын
Absolutely all of my OCS have an object or similar for a face.
@gabrielhenson57512 жыл бұрын
an example of this that I really like is characters with a security camera for a head
@broseidondoodles2 жыл бұрын
@@gabrielhenson5751 oo that's really cool, I don't think I've ever seen that before. I really like those old school box tvs, cardboard boxes, and paper bags as heads. Also a character that just has a huge eyeball as a head. I've seen it like twice and it's my favorite thing ever lol

When I went to school, I used to fantasize about living in one. Time is fleeting, and it seemed to pass slower there, so I liked it.

I feel like the last one is like a spirit more than a ghost like someone/something that tries to warn you to not go down there bc they died there, with the movie theater one might be a soul or a monster who died at a young age trying to live a life again at the place they lived to be most, the schoolish one might be a child that is trying to take care of the school they used to go to bc of how badly they noticed the children treated the school and the teachers there

I really love the 1st and 3rd, kinds eerie but also harmless. The 2nd one felt a bit too disjointed to me. I like the janitor Spector idea but the uniform and grim reaper elements just didn’t click for me. But I hope you do more of these in the future!

I feel like the scythe is the big part that feels out of place. If it wasn't connected to the mop or maybe her lifting it up I wouldn't be so against it but it looks really wrong when the mop is on the ground.

This is so dreamcore :dreamcore or weirdcore is basically nostalgic or weird. It feels creepy and comforting at the same time

I know this video is forever ago and you’ll probably not read this comment but I just wanted to say thanks for this video, it inspired me to draw some liminal space-based characters of my own and it’s kind of my new obsession. My fav one of yours is the movie theatre monster by the way, he’s so silly omg

Some name ideas, even though there's no suggestion prompt I want to :) All of these are based off from the term 'liminal' in liminal spaces, like a gateway or a doorway, some place you pass through but don't stay. The first one could be Janus, and while , in Roman myths, he is the God of gateways and passages I read something about him being the 'God of Frames' , kinda like movie frames. It's a Percy, as a nickname for Perseverance. I've got a few janitors in my family and we do not respect them nearly as much as we should as a populous, they are very resilient. Anyways, it also fits with the theme, 'to continue doing something' no matter what. In this case continue living, remaining, and cleaning at this school. Finally, Seishi. The name Seishi is from Japan and means different things based off the Kanji used, two of which are 'arrive' and 'sacred'. The gate in the image I believe is a Torii gate which is a symbol or marker for a sacred territory. The 'arrive' is in reference to arriving somewhere and never leaving. If I need to be corrected, please reply, I've only done quick research for this and therefore is not entirely reliable.

something I always found so interesting about liminal spaces is that we can pick up on them even as children. Even before we have the vocabulary to describe what we are feeling, its there.

Really cool designs! I LOVE how they each fit into the liminal spaces they respectively occupy. I really like the cave guardian but I think I like the movie theater cryptid the most? They just vibed the most with me 😎

My favorite liminal space monster of the 3 you drew is the Movie Theater liminal space monster. The way his face is red neon squares is just the coolest thing I’ve ever seen! If that thing was chasing me, I’d be mesmerized, but running away haha. And the pink school hallway one is really nice. The cave looking one is really spooky, especially with the rugged clothing he has. Honestly, your designs for these three liminal space monsters are awesome! Again, the movie theater one is my favorite of the two due to the neon colors and the red neon squares for the face. Amazing job LavenderTowne! I always love the art you do, so keep on being amazing with your art talent! I hope that your Friday, and your weekend goes well ❤️

All of these feel so friendly to me. Perhaps it's just my romanticized viewpoint on all creature designs, but I can't help but imagine a cute little hang-out scene with all of them being a wholesome little friend group. :>>>

I love liminal spaces because they feel like a place that is odd but not evil, and these characters perfectly represent that! They express a weird feeling but they don't seem mean or harmful. Amazing video and art
@logandenton16222 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love this. I am definitely going to be doing some of these myself. I like the idea of these being the only creatures that ‘live’ in these spaces. Them being the vague representation of a humanoid shape makes them much more eerie, especially the first one

the third one, i think, would be scarier with eyes. However, yes, in the scene, he is very unsettling.

I got so excited when I saw the last one was a cave! I love caves, and I work as a tour guide at one in the summer (I was partially hoping you'd go for a guide of sorts for the last one tbh!) but I love all of these, they're so cool! And we've seen/heard plenty of ghosts in the cave, ranging from hearing banging from lower down on the way out as the last tour of the day, seeing the deceased owner sitting in parts of the cave, and more so I love the ghost aspect of the last guy too

I really love the designs! To me, they emulate the experience of a liminal space perfectly; initially scary or unnerving, but slowly becomes comforting. I wanna be friends with them, they all seem very sweet

I think a very cool idea is if you were to try to draw a creature from certain places in each U.S. state!! Personally, I live in Pennsylvania, and some of y favorite place here i would love to see get a character are Punxsutawney, Pittsburgh, Anita, and Brookville. Most of the places except for Pitt are older small towns and I'd just adore seeing you design characters for them! It's just a small idea though, but I still think it's worth sharing! If somebody read this all, thank you
