It was some kid had gotten a little *too close for comfort* to someone else, but i had extreme anxiety and the only way to calm me down was to have my best friend hug me. Needless to say it didn’t work out. Although this was the same place that forced my little sister to stay behind on the only decent feildtrip of the year because they claimed we didn’t turn in a permission slip (even though it turned out that they had lost it), refused to give me sunscreen resulting in me passing out on the bus, and also forced us to visit a taxidermy room.

Art school snobbery is so ridiculous its not even funny. As a fine arts...artist, its insane that artists look down on other forms of art. Like, if you meet an artist and they say anything and I mean /anything/, isnt art, straight up tell them they are not an artist they are posers. Idgaf if theyre 20 or 200, call them out. Refusing to accept a medium as art,is just the antithesis if what artists are supposed to be. Ive done every type of art, ive painted, carved, sewn, sculpted, welded, glued, soldered, drawn, pasted, animated, and preformed in nearly 6 years worth of art school and i can say with 100% of my being that if you think anything cannot be art you are not an artist. I have had teachers galore say nay to shit they dont like, and they all sucked as artists, so never let them bother you.

As a design student, I relate so much to this video you can't believe. I'm in second year now and the way we're treated differently in comparison to the first year is quite in your face, suddenly the teachers seem way more chill with everything. I also once had the problem that I was sick for a whole week and couldn't turn in my project. I thought it was all fine since I had a medical certificate made that confirmed my sickness. You see, If your absent for three or more days because of sickness, you need a certificate. But turned out in case of a deadline the certificate had to be made on the exact same day the deadline is, (which no one told me) and mine was made one day later. (Third day of being sick) So even though I confirmed properly that I was in fact sick, I still got 0 points on that project which really fucked up my grade.

We were all so fed up that we boycotted and protested against her. we would wear black every art day, and we would spread around post it notes on pencils that had a protesting phrase on it and would protest her removal in our free time. She was finally kicked out one day (because of us and the boys parents) and even though she was all like "I'll miss you so much students" no one said anything back and we all celebrated once she left hehe. The mastermind behind her removal was none other than the most innocent looking girl you would ever meet I kid you not lol. She was quite the leader I must say 😂😂

My teacher also was a “fine arts kid” and only liked abstract art so when I sketched cartoony characters she would tell me things to “improve on”, and I would just be like “Chill!” She often didn’t give us enough time to finish projects and it was difficult to catch up after missing another day..

In my country there is also a type of art school that I attend. So you can be there from ages 10-17(I think) and you have to spend 5 years there. You go after school 3 times a week. You also kind of have majors there's 3 main one's(others exist too but are less common) wood, clay and design. And in summer there is a week where everyone paints and draws outside and one year on the last day we went to a beach and had a theme so we had to make sand sculptures. It's honestly really fun but you have to work hard. The main differences from art collage are: no homework, 3times a week, it's for kids, only spend about 3-4 hours each day you're there. This being said even though we are younger than art collage students everyone's art there is amazing. Thank you for reading and have a nice day. Love you~~ P.S. Lavender Towne, you are my biggest idol.

She favored me and this other student, mostly because we were the oldest in the class, pointing out at every chance how since we are older we do better stuff and I always found it funny. She loved everyone's art and all but you can tell the one she favors, one time I did a collage of cats and she F L I P P E D. Legit went to ACAD. I left first year, but it was actually because I decided to go to a different school (decided to go to Edmonton to study) since the atmosphere in ACAD was so brutal. I really liked the teachers I didn't have one of the bad ones I guess, but all the students in my first year hated each other and legit tried to sabotage each other's chances in classes it was crazy. Glad I went through to a different program tho I can imagine it getting better in the 2nd - 4th year.
@carolyndonovan16946 жыл бұрын
At my school we didn't need a portfolio to get into the art major ( honestly one reason why I came here because while I've always loved making art I barely had anything portfolio worthy in time for college apps) and instead, every first year art student takes a foundations course to give everyone the same opportunity to be at the same starting point, and then during your second year you have portfolio review to get into your specific concentration, where your portfolio comes from what you made in the foundation courses. I'm finishing up my first year now and will have portfolio review in November this year which for most concentrations isnt the most stressful thing, except for the Graphic Design concentration which just so happens to be what I'm trying to get into. I don't feel it's nearly as cutthroat as your experiences, its a very supportive environment at this school (probably because its not exclusively an art school) but I am definitely stressing out so much for portfolio review. Also I totally feel the pain of uncomfortable chairs, the drawing horses we have are super uncomfortable, I have to bring a cushion to sit on 😂

Well, Im not in collage yet, but I go to an art club at my old middle school. This happened last year. There was a big progect, where we had to paint a mural in one of the main hallways. The theme was my shcool's slogan, "Where everyone belongs". So pretty much diversity. I came up with the idea to get the whole club to draw like two characters for it, to create a group. At the time, the club didnt have that many people, so I was friends with everyone. We even came up with nicknames for eachother. Mine was boat dog. Anyway, back to the subject, I told them my idea, and everyone was in. Once we started painting the characters, the rest of the school was like, "Wth is that, *ANIME* !?" And there was one character who had cat ears and tail, and they were like, "Is that a *FURRY* !?" They even started a... I dont know the word for this... English was my second language sorry... but, they started a democracy? Pretty much they got the whole school to vote weather to keep the mural, or to take it down. In the end we had to take it down. But were thinking about trying again this year, before our art teacher retires, since most of the kids who voted to take it down were in their last year.

This is pretty much unrelated, but our school mascot was going around to classrooms and when he came to ours my friend jumped up on the counter and started hyperventilating and going "Help it's a furry no furries allowed that's scary go away" and the mascot just turned around and walked out of the room. There were about five seconds of silence and then everyone just went back to normal like nothing had happened.

Unique if art is truly what you want to do, then it's not a waste. If you're doing something you love, your not wasting time or effort, your using it to your heart's content, doing what you love and enjoying your time; something a lot of people on their deathbed wished they did when they were younger, that and spending more time with family(scientific fact right here)
@amandaoesef30066 жыл бұрын
Hi, I know you commented this three weeks ago but I just want to share that I faced the same problem. It took me a long time to finally decide to go art school because I felt like it was going to be a waste of all the time and effort that I spent getting straight A's in everything (except math), and I'm also taking the IB diploma which isnt rly needed for art school. I applied to several business schools and art schools and got accepted to both, but in the end I chose Illustration. And I'm super excited because I know this is what I want to do. Anyway, my point is, the decision should come from yourself, but for what its worth, art school also values your grades not just other more conventional majors, and that it shouldn't determine what you do in the future. If I may ask, what grade are you in? I asked my parents if I could take art in university in 9th grade, they said, yes, then changed their minds and said no, then changed their minds again and said yes.

man, this sounds like the school i went to. it wasn't just "Students drop out" the teachers would actively pick students off because they didn't think they were "cut out for it". and yeah, we had all the animosity between studios. somehow i managed to work things out by finding ways to collaborate with multiple studios (i was in fashion, so i'd work with the textiles, jewellery, and graphics kids to accessorize my designs lol) but it was brutal, and constantly felt like everyone was being pitted against each other!

My high school art teachers are all really strict about art. Your art is either AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL and you are extremely TALENTED or your art is always BAD and NEEDS IMPROVEMENT. That’s pretty much all the criticism we get. It’s also really funny how biased the teachers are against some projects, because we get to pick what to draw, some teachers like some projects more than others, and therefore will help those students more than others. For example one of my projects was on colourful insects, and I would draw a bunch of moths, butterflies etc.. One of my art teachers was obsessed with my project ( probably because it had nothing to do with humans which is what most people went with). She would find so much stuff for me to use and completely skip other students. She always told me that I had a LOVELY project and that it was GREAT. The way you were treated really depended on the year you were in too. Sometimes I would have to sit in a year 8 (7th grade) class because I had some free periods and the things the teacher was telling to the students were either hilarious, or scary. And I mean hilarious in a ‘this such a weird/basic way of putting this concept’ my favourite was telling students that monochromatic paintings are boring!!!
@scoobersmcghee82705 жыл бұрын
HelenDaGR8 official dude, my art teacher right now in high school is exactly like that, except she LITERALLY LOVES ALL MY PROJECTS. I'm not complaining, but idk why she even likes my paintings especially because I suck at it 😅 But I've noticed the other students in my class that go up to her to make sure they were on the right track always got criticism, like they didn't do this right or they had white spaces or she didn't like how this looked. Basically, your art is bad and needs improvement. Every time I went up to her to check with her, she always said it was beautiful or I was doing a good job. Basically, your art is amazing and you're very talented. I've never gotten a bad review (yet) and it may be because my art teacher knew both my sisters, who were very talented at painting. I guess I didn't get the right genes cuz I'm terrible, but I'm better with graphite and charcoal. Still, I think that the fact that she knows my family helps me a lot. Either she doesn't wanna criticize me hard because she really likes me, or I'm actually doing a good job.

So I was in fourth grade, my class was a decent class. The lunch aids didn't really like our grade. They made a rule where we couldn't talk at lunch when a class got too loud and the principal knew about it. They always blamed it on us though. Anyhow, in 5th trends happened and things got banned. The lunch aids hated us and we weren't too fond of them either. Now we all graduate and my younger sibling is still in the school. I'm talking to her and I ask out of curiosity if all the stuff was still banned and she goes "what are you talking about??? Nothing was ever banned except selling those bracelets" and I just was like are you kidding me so ya that was my elementary school ;-; Srry this was very long

well, i guess this is more of an unreasonable thing than anything... my school, i live in a very catholic town (which may be the reason) btw, doesnt allow coloured hair, and boys have no choice in whether or not they want long hair, and we had uniforms. so basically, i wanted to dye my hair white- like, white haired anime boy white -until i read the handbook or whatever its called i didnt pay attention. I wanted to dye may hair black after that, but decided against it, since i live in louisiana and you know how hot it gets in the south (ive literally begged my family to move north, i wanted more than anything to live in canada- i still do, actually.). so anyway, im getting my hair cut after this upcoming anime convention and im bleaching it, but thats besides the point. the boys in my school arent allowed to have long hair, and theres a kid a year beneath me that has the same haircut that i have currently, which is basically where you have your hair near-shaved on all sides except the top, which is left as long as you like. So this kid wears it in a ponytail (i usually put mine in a bun, i did that for most of the end of the school year- like during testing, it was a symbol for how much i wanted to go home. I put it up as soon as i entered the building), so it was just sitting atop his head. now, since we're in different years, we dont have the same hall until next year (seventh and eigth graders share halls) so ive never seen him be dresscoded, but once, not even a full week after we got back from winter break, i got dress coded for wearing a jacket i had been wearing since my aunt and uncle's wedding (which was in september if im not mistaken, which i probably am). keep in mind, we're allowed to wear any kind of jacket as long as it was a solid grey or navy blue, or a school bought jacket. Apparantly my english teacher, who taught my final two periods, was feeling nitpicky and decided, "oh look, that one girl who hardly says anything and sits in the back of the class and is generally a good kid has black stitches in her jacket. guess whos gonna get dress coded!" anyway thats a lot of unnecessary words that you just spent a lot of time reading, so ill be out of your hair. love your videos, btw. keep up the great work!

Yeah, I’m not going to an art school either. Even though going to art school will give you the greatest chance in making it big in an art career, it’s not the only option. My second semester of my first year, I had a 3D Design class which was supposed to be an entry level class that you took if you wanted to get into things like sculpting and stuff. I’m working to get a bachelor in fine arts so it was a class I was required to take. The teacher was the dean of the art department and I knew him pretty well so I figured the class was going to be fun. Well, I had never done anything involving 3D Design or sculpture before. So whenever I would get a project for that class done I would always tell myself that I did pretty good for someone who has never done this crap before. Then I would get to class and everyone would have these extravagant and amazing sculptures and I passed the class with a C because I apparently wasn’t as “talented” as the other students there.

Right, so my school is a Montessori school, and we have 4th, 5th and 6th grade all in one class, well no, there are 2 classes of these 3 grades. The time youre supposed to get to school at is 8:30 and no later than that. Since once you get into 4th grade you actually have a class in a public area, we dont really have a building that the school owns, we just have rooms that are rented. So one day when I was in 6th grade, me and my 5th grade friend were kind of late, it was raining, his mom had walked him there, and she left. It was cold, and the door was locked. They actually didnt let us in for 30 minutes. We, an 11 and 10 year old, stayed outside in the rain and cold for 30 minutes because they forgot about us. And we were super scared to knock a second time, because they also had this rule that if you knocked twice, they would leave you out there for like, an hour. It was a pretty shitty way to start the day, but hey. We got to sit outside the door reading and talking in the rain, and we were covered by a little roof ledge, so I mean. It wasnt awful.

A few days after going to school there, we realized that the design classes all got mcbooks payed from school, fancy fluffy chairs, desks on glasstables and so on! It was just rediculous! 😂 But that was of course also bc the teachers wanted to test our stamina and if we really wanted to go to artschool, no matter what! c: It was weird, but its funny to see that other artschools do the sane thing with the first years xDS

Basically at my elementary school the teachers would make us sit with our class at lunch and would only let us bring a friend to our table or sit at a different table if we bought a table switch card with something called ‘falcon points’. Then later the took that away, and not having like any friends in a class sucked. The “friends” I did have in my 5th grade class were also pretty toxic but I had no choice other than to pretend I liked them if I didn’t want to eat lunch alone... so yeah
