You are not only one of the most knowledgeable photographers I know, but also an extremely talented one! It amazes me, for how few videos you post in a year, how much I've learned from you since 2014! Great content!

I really really have enjoyed watching your infrared journey, we visited LA , Grand Canyon & las vagas area a few years ago and hoped we would visit a few more parts of your beautiful country in 2020 but alas the the virus changed all of that........This video has also helped me come to a decision that I will convert my canon 6d to a full spectrum although I will get it done by a pro.......Beautiful video mate

What I really love doing with my full spectrum modified Nex 5R is shooting with 720nm filter and then playing with white balance slider in RawTherapee (it can do more than lightroom, especially to full spectrum images) The results can be quite stunning, just with white balance mannipulation.

Great 2 videos thank you. South Park is actually the name of the valley. There is also a North Park in north Colorado. The town you where in is Fairplay. Can not believe you got rained out at the sand dunes, its a desert there. Keep up the great work.

Awesome photos, I can't believe this video didn't come up on my feed sooner. Oh you should have stayed over night at the haunted place and found out where the ghosts hang out, it would have been insane to get a full or part body apparition in an image. They got a lot of those in the "Haunting Australia" series. Plus can you explain some of those filters you used a little better, I'm definitely interested in infra red photography. Show us the filters you use to get your desired effect, I loved the one with the orange sky, it was straight out of the movie Total Recall. So many images were amazing. Love your work, and I have been enjoying your content for a long while.

Speaking of polarization filters, regular CPL just does not work in IR, do you have special IR polarizers? Or what exact model of filter compatible with IR polarization? Thanks

Hey, I'm curious how good this mod is for making the night time / low-light black & white portrait photography ? Can you make a video on that ? It would be really nice to see if we can get the nice clean bright skin with way less noise than usual at night ;)

@noahglynn 5 жыл бұрын
the infrared conversion might help a tiny bit, however at night since there is no ultraviolet light from the sun, photographs from an infrared sensor will typically look like photos from a normal camera

How you corrected focus to infinity after filter removal?
@Ni5ei
@Ni5ei 4 ай бұрын
You don't need to. Modern lenses can focus past infinity and the way the Sony autofocus works you don't need to correct for the different focus of Infrared.

Is it necessary to make adjustments for focus changes of infrared or does the on-sensor focussing of Sony A7R make this irrelevant?
@LavikkaPhotography
@LavikkaPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
If you just plan on using e mount af lenses then no. Or if you use a thick filter then no again but if you go with a thin filter then some thin shims should probably be added as it may not focus to infinity with manual focus or adapted lenses.

So what's the difference in use of converting to full spectrum vs something like 590nm infrared? With full spectrum it is more flexible but you still need external color lens filters?

Which lenses do you use that don’t have hotspots ?
@LavikkaPhotography
@LavikkaPhotography 5 жыл бұрын
I use basic glass. Primes with simple designs work best like primes with 5 or 6 elements. On this trip I took a Rokinon 35mm 2.8 af, 90mm Zeiss from an old contax and a 20mm tokina f2 and I avoid stepping down more than f8.
@ddxfs
@ddxfs 4 жыл бұрын
@@LavikkaPhotography how does the tokina f2 do at higher apertures like f11 and f16? do you notice hotspots there with 720/850nm? cant find any info on the lenses ir performance. also curious about the rokinon 35mm 2.8 at higher apertures. that usually gives a decent idea of the quality of performance at f8, and it's nice to be able to have f11 usable. im very picky about hotspots
@LavikkaPhotography
@LavikkaPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
@@ddxfs The tokina f2 has a mild hot spot above f8. I use the radial filter in acr to cure it. problem is the wider angle you get the worse the hot spot gets. The Tokina is about as good as you can get on the wide side. Rokinon is actually pretty good. The key to lenses for infrared is to have a simple design. 5 to 7 elements ensures very little to no spots.
@ddxfs
@ddxfs 4 жыл бұрын
@@LavikkaPhotography gotcha, yeah anything that requires correction is a no go for me, since contrast starts to deteriorate before hotspots are visible which isn't good for dark skies. simple design helps but it isn't the whole picture and the particular lens coatings and how they interact with the design trapping IR reflections play the largest part. I have a Zeiss 25mm ZF-IR which is the holy grail for infrared wide lenses, but I'm still interested in wider/sharper. I hear the nikon 17-35 f2.8 is very good I just havent tested it and it uses big filters, so im always curious to see what people are using. the only way to know if a lens is good for Ir is to test it.
