Why not just undo the Cam belt Tensioner ?? because you need it undone when you replace the belt

Exactly. In fact I would bring the marks up TDC and lock the cam so I don't have to retime it. And all the shock when that belt snaps is never good

Those crappy timing belts are designed to fail. Honda and Toyota should sell a plan that includes automatic timing-belt changes, brake-pad replacement, and oil-changes on a set schedule; as preventative maintenance. But they don’t, because it would double the price of the car. If Daihatsu could sell cars in America, everything would change for the better.
