Living here in Alabama, USA, we have always pronounced the word "law" exactly as you, with a strong emphasis on the "w". So many Americans pronounce it as "laa", as in, do re mi fa so "la", without the w.

But I hear a slight “R”sound on the end of “ Law” I read this is a remnant from an Estuary accent- or maybe that’s the intrusive R? I heard it faintly.
@SpeakBritishEnglishTV13 күн бұрын
There's no /r/ at the end of 'law'. However, if you are connecting this word to another word beginning with a vowel sound then you can (and I advise that you do) put an /r/ at the beginning of the next syllable. Hence 'The law (r) is the law'.

Do the monophthongs and diphthongs have to be at the end of the word? I am curious if I am correct. Monophthongs as Law: saw, raw, ball. Diphthongs as Low: glow, slow, so.

Lord bow and how/paw,saw and raw.
@SpeakBritishEnglishTV Жыл бұрын
'Lord' has the vowel sound /ɔː/ (like 'law'). 'How' has the vowel sound /aʊ/, which is not covered in this lesson. 'Bow' has two different pronunciations, depending on the meaning. If you mean it in the sense of 'rainbow' or 'bowtie' then the vowel sound is /əʊ/ (like 'low'); if you mean it in the sense of 'take a bow' then the vowel sound is /aʊ/, like 'how'. 'Paw', 'saw' and 'raw' all have the vowel sound /ɔː/, so they are correct.
