Your videos are intruding , you were gifted to be a teacher truly. I am a social worker student and we just started criminology so this basically clarify certain aspect of the course.

Very good video, but would be much better if the editing wasn't so choppy- would have been better if there wasn't any at all!

+lexyheroux Fair point. I've tried to improve on the editing (see the latest videos). Putting up all of it would be unmanageable as my lectures usually run between 60-120min.

I have a case. A 33 year-old man hooks up with a young woman at a bar. She looks mature and acts mature and even orders drinks for them both. The man goes as far as to see her ID and it says she's 22. So they back to her place and end up sleeping together. The next morning the woman's parents burst in ask the man what's he doing with their daughter. Too the man's shock and horror discovers that the woman is really 17 with a really good fake ID. What do you think should happen?

depends if the parents or the girl want to press charges against him right? And also she can get charged for having a fake ID? Depends on the state for the law approach.

Society decides is oversimplifying it. Certain elements of society have more power than others. Polls show a majority want marijuana legalized, but that doesn't mean the law gets changed right away (not saying it should or it shouldn't just noting this). The only type of government where society purely decides what is and is not criminal is a direct democracy, which is no government on Earth at least not beyond a limited power of passing referenda and initiatives as is found in some American states and some nations in Europe. I am not saying we should have a pure democracy (sometimes society is wrong and representative democracy acts somewhat as a filter and as a way of slowing things down so the public can think about the issue more) but noting that society doesn't really decide what is criminal and what is not as certain people have different powers in influencing those outcomes. Ultimately it is the hands of whoever holds governmental power. The difference is easier to notice for regimes like China or even worse North Korea.

What about slavery, As in the legal ownership of someone’s legal identity as the state constitutes our legal person and grants it to us upon application doesn’t that constitute an act of slavery?

That which is legal may not necessarily be lawful, and that which lawful is not necessarily be legal, and things being similar are not necessarily the same, legal and lawful are similar but not necessarily the same thing...Peace.

"Duties" are for agents, officers and the like. Rights are for man. man is under no obligation whatsoever to fulfill "duties"

Laws of society are what we as people determine as what wrong and right, but it doesn't translate as morality.

Can you tell us what state in which you mentioned these things that are prohibited and how they have an impact on the Criminal Justice session? Are you conveying a message that creates the idea that the community should of whom of those who look at life beyond the streets or dishonoring of parents should consist of the popular opinion that one should and should major in some form of legal doctrines like Introduction to Sociology; Political Science and or English and Journalism that helps to have a idea of a straight and narrow path that one can live or work comfortably and respectfully with respect to God and marriage and the only begotten son Jesus Christ whereas he has also given commandments that we should love God and love our neighbor as ourselves that being the golden rule? The Prosecution has hundreds of millions in their war chest, a division of police officers, and variety of other resources. The defendant has nothing but a public defender who is over worked, and is denied any resources. It's no wonder that prosecutors have over 80% conviction rates. The police are usually the first people who are met in the criminal justice system. Arriving at the scene of a crime they gather evidence, question witnesses, look for internal inconsistencies and gage their responses. However, this process is very subjective because the police like all people are full of jealously, envy, and prejudice. So those norms the professor was conceptualizing get thrown in ideals basket with societies trash.

Oh, I just meant that even taking candy from a baby would be harder than the prosecutor's role. I suppose I was being hyperbolic.
