The way Fred and Esther were on screen, you would never know that they were good friends in real life. Redd really fought for her.

redd foxx was one of the first people to put all of his friends on when he made it big. he was friends with pat morita, gregory sierra, bubba, leroy & skillet, and esther was literally a life long friend. the next person to do that was richard pryor

They were really close friends. They knew each other as kids when they went to school together in St. Louis. And when Redd got into trouble with the IRS in the 1990s, he called LaWanda several times for help. People tend to think that because they fought so much on Sanford And Son they were not friends. They were very good friends, they were doing nothing but acting.

@@GreenLine4444 Ironic isn't it. How many people would want to work with someone he or she didn't like. Ironically, frequently, actors whose characters get along on screen secretly don't get along behind the screen. Check it Out! Ciao!!!

@@Mister75199 Yeah LOL, I know about his beef with Erik. Something about when he was a kid and he went to where they were filming "CHiPs," and he stood near the front of the crowd and yelled hello to Erik, and he felt that Erik brushed him off or ignored him. That's the version I remember from his show when he had Benjamin Pratt pose as Ponch and he made fun of him. I think that Erik, like many stars at the time (especially through the strike), had their moments.

Great interview. The story she’s telling is true. Redd and LaWanda were VERY good friends. Redd and LaWanda worked together at Redd’s home. By the time time we saw it on TV, they had their rhythm and timing down.

I'm so glad I came across this. I just always loved her and Redd proved to her that he was still her friend and wanted her to succeed! I remember we looked so forward to Friday night, because Sanford & Son and All in the Family were on, back to back...2 of the best comedies on t.v.!

LaWanda Page is up there with the best of the comedians as well as female comedians. Lucille Ball, Gilda Radner, and LaWanda Page. Comedy Gold. We are still watching Sanford and Son like it's a debut every time. And one thing for sure Aunt Esther made the show. It should have been called Fred and Esther. Or Fred's sister in law Esther. "Ha! Glory." Thank you! LaWanda for the laughs. Every single time. No matter how much I watch the repeats. ❤

Yes it is a beautiful verse in the Bible. And because of Aunt Ester that message and Bible Verse will reach a lot of people who watch Sanford and Son. And hopefully it will reach a lot of people's hearts and Souls. And help lead them to reaching out and leading them to the Lord. Just because She read the Bible on the Sanford And Son tv Show. To God Be The Glory. FOREVER AND EVER. AMEN!
