My opinion, she should have received 50 years; she killed a person and robbed a person of her life with her family and friends; Samantha will never live 50 years but this young woman will. It was not an accident; driving while drunk is not an accident. If the penalty for getting behind the wheel of a vehicle is very harsh, then more people will think at least twice before doing it. @@helenmoss9740 well yeah. No punishment is suddenly going to make her care about other people or learn how to develop any sort of empathy. That doesn’t seem to even be in her wheelhouse. So given that the options are either she cries over the loss of her freedom and life as she knew it, or she doesn’t cry and feels unfazed about the sentence…in which case it wouldn’t really be much of a punishment then. Seems like a lot of people want her punished for taking that woman’s life, so I’d think they’d prefer she feels devastated over being like, yeah whatever.

Judges have to make rulings based on criteria. Im not sure on the laws of her state but she has to weigh mitigating factors and aggravating factors, and the perpetrator had no prior criminal history. It's possible the judge was bound to sentencing guidelines, with no aggravating factors present. She gave her the maximum on the charges. Courts work on precedent, largely, for the goal of fairness. There are probably lots of similar cases the judge looked at, and it would be proper to sentence based on other judges conclusions in those cases.

Yep, she sure is, plus she already received part of the multiple lawsuits that were settled. She said that she deserved to be compensated for the loss of her daughter and that because of the short time they were married, the vows weren't legal. Also that her other son and grandson were entitled to the money as their suffering was worse than the husband's. I don't know the laws where this took place, but in some states the marriage isn't considered legally binding until the marriage license is signed and filed with the Clerk Of Courts which wouldn't have happened yet in this case. It's a bs law, but it does exist, I'm just not sure about this state. Either way, the mother in law is being a 1st class b***h, and is not entitled to the life insurance unless she was listed as the beneficiary. I hope the husband finds the strength to stop her from receiving another penny.
