in the book there was another event where Forrest got crushed by a load of falling logs when the brothers were working at a logging camp and it was said he nearly broke every bone in his body and was in a full body cast for a year

About the payment fee for the boys to still run shine, that was what was called "supper money" back in the day. Officers picked up the payment from different sources to allow them to continue operations, and in doing so this "supper money" payment provided the boys with extra security to grow thier business. This is definitely an example on the extreme, bit during prohibition I'm sure stuff like that happened. Anyways I think that's what those payments in the movie were.

The reason Forrest was upset with Jack getting beat up was that the family for the most part scared everyone. Their "Indestructible " legend protected them from harm and Jack letting himself get beat up put them all in danger.

Glad you liked this one. Tom hardy is in alot of movies but not until recently became big budget films. He was in black hawk down. One of his first films , you may remember him as the guy lugging that huge gun that deafen his battle buddy. He also played bane in batman. Which is why he was so burly for this movie. This movie put Tom Hardy on my radar for the first time. And even though Shia Lebouf is quite batshit crazy, he's also one of the best actors to ever do the job. Its hard to find a more tense intimidation scene than when Tom Hardy turned his head with that dead ass stare and very calmly said "Donchu ever touch me again" Chills

I'm from this part of the country, and Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf's accents are not great. Also, this movie makes it seem like Virginia and Chicago are close, when in reality it's about 10-12 hours with modern cars and roads. Back then it would've taken days.
