The Constituent Assembly was formed in 1946, before India gained its independence from British colonial rule, and it continued to function after India became a sovereign nation in 1947. • The members of the Constituent Assembly were elected by the provincial legislatures, which were themselves elected by the people of India. The members of the Assembly represented a wide range of political parties, regions, religions, and social backgrounds, and they worked together to craft a constitution that would serve as the foundation of India's democracy. • The Constituent Assembly sat for more than two years, from December 1946 to January 1950, during which time it debated and discussed various provisions of the new constitution. The final document, which was adopted on January 26, 1950, established India as a sovereign, democratic republic, and it laid out the framework for the country's political, economic, and social systems. • Thus, the Constituent Assembly of India was called the first parliament of India because it played a crucial role in laying the foundation of Indian democracy and the country's constitutional framework. *Extremely sorry for late reply.
