We have large maple trees whose roots are above the soil. It’s difficult to mow. Will anything grow between the roots?

Moss might be a good idea since it's very shade tolerant, shallow-rooted and doesn't need mowing.

@@vce-princewilliam4823 we called a landscaper, and he suggested hostas because we have so much shade there. We have moss under another maple, and i'm planning to get rid of it.
