Lawn Update 30 - Spraying Weeds - Hose End vs Tank Sprayer

There's one more issue with my backyard that I wanted to care of this fall and that was eliminating the ever growing patches of clover that are starting to take over. I also decide that since I have two pieces of equipment available to do this spraying (hose end and tank sprayer) I would experiment with both types to see if one might produce better results than the other.

Have you learned that the hose end sprayer has also a spare jet so that you can use the dial in Teaspoon measurements also when you need to spray a more diluted amount?

Thanks my yard is 20,000 sqft ! A challenge so I fired my lawn service because grass look bad. I did the soil test lime was low 4.20 ph added 23 bags of pellet lime Fall 2021 & total N 7.13 ppm. I just treated with Weed b gone using hose end sprayer might be too hot. Also, did only once this Spring lesco with herbicide granulated treat. Lawn doesn't too bad not perfect.

i work at Chapin. It's always cool to see people use our products. personally I'm not a big fan of the hose ends, not to mention they are a pain in the butt to make. i really like the pro series / xp sprayers though

Exactly right. It helps the water not bead up so much on weeds like clover.

Ryan, ¿is baby shampoo the only choice? ¿Will a different shampoo also work? I have some other shampoos we no longer use.

@@somewhereusa9602 any surfacant will work but stronger "soaps" which include shampoos, often have other ingredients you don't need on your lawn so why subject the grass to them?

For LARGER AREA'S, how would a 5-15 Gallon Tank Sprayer work? I have 1/3 Acres and using a "pump style" Sprayer is "Out of Question"! I have been toying around the idea of purchasing an Electric Powered (12V) Trailer or Bracket Mounted Sprayer on the Back of my Riding Mower using either a BOOM SPRAYER with 3 Nozzles, with a Wand Sprayer for the "Hard 2 Reach" areas... Baby shampoo usually has the least amount of other ingredients added but you can use others if you wish

According to the forecast (which can't ever be trusted) it doesn't look like any freezing temps for at least 10 days yet.

The secret to killing clover is to use an actual surfactant/spreader sticker intended for pesticides(not baby shampoo) and scuff it up just a little with your boot after application to allow herbicide to penetrate the cuticle.

You would remove the weed killer if you scuff it up with your boot after application no ? I have great results using the baby shampoo

No herbicide stays on leaf surface enough to work. I'm not sure who started this whole baby shampoo thing but it is wrong. Per ounce Surfactant or spreader sticker is cheaper than baby shampoo, and say you did want to use a household item you already have on hand in a pinch. Dish soap has far better surfactants in it then baby shampoo.

thanks for the video. i was actually lookin for something on hose end sprayer reviews- i got a little tired of my ortho dial-spray and am lookin for a new HE sprayer. looks like the fan pattern on the chapin is a lot better than an ortho.

tom steve You can also customize it a bit by messing with the black tip on the end. You can turn it upside down if there is no wind and spray farther.
