In comparison to 2022 for the entire irrigation season, I saved nearly 46,000 gallons of water in 2023 compared to the year prior and 285.00 in overage fees. That's equal to one head, in one season. It is important to mention that in this system the water lines are pressurized all of the time whether the system is running or not. The valve is the head itself. That is a huge deal since all of the connections need to be made perfectly or leaks will develop in a short amount of time. I am sticking to a traditional system and just using different nozzles. I used the online app to calculate for my lawn and I would need about 6 heads for just 2400 sqf of total lawn since it is segmented in a few areas. That is just a lot of pressurized water lines running under my lawn plus the wires to each head.

I ran an OtO unit on my small back lawn last year. It worked flawlessly, especially as my back lawn is irregularly shaped and my existing inground was always overspraying into the beds no matter how i set it up. Video coming soon 😉

25.00 per month based on last years rates for me but they doubled our base rate. based on pre 2023 rates, 75.00 per months average savings and that does account for the whole lawn. On a compounding basis, the system is paying for itself, but obviously if you start from scratch and do this instead of a conventional system, you'll be money ahead over time. My old system wont pay for itself. For me to build my original system, I spent a little less than 2 grand. This Irrigreen system would be roughly 3000.00 all in on a fresh install at my house pipe and all.

@@MrBdogg317 I did a quote 2 years ago and even reducing the number of heads as much as I could the system came out to nearly 10 years of my entire water bill. It's a neat system but there isn't a good way to justify the cost is most parts of the county.

Quick question… I see in your video that your Automower is running while the irrigation is watering. Have had any issues with that? I worried about my mower hitting my Irrigreen heads and damaging them…

Hey Lawncology. Thanks for the awesome vids you produce. I installed mine late fall last season. I had a DIY above ground set up prior. I replaced 4 heads with 1, in my front lawn, and replaced 6 heads with just 2 for my backyard. This was my first in ground irrigation install and I couldn't believe how simple it was. Because it was late fall, I had only a few weeks to run it. The only concern I have is the areas where I top coat and reseeded the trenches. As you said, the Irrigreen has a pretty heavy throw. So what I was seeing was the topcoat and seeds getting washed out from where each of the 14 nozzles were hitting the soil. I'm reeding my front lawn this spring and Im worried that I may get the same results that I saw last fall. Have you experienced this? If so, what was your fix? I'd hate to reinstall my above ground system just for new seeding. Thanks

Or cover your seed with seeding blankets to protect from washout. Well, lessen wash out I guess.

@@ActiveWren Thanks for the info. I reached out to Jeff at Irrigreen after Lawncology's reply. He advised that they are working on a nozzle to correct this issue. However they did not have a release date. Hope to see it come out soon.

With that heavy droplet size, how does it work on new seed! Does it disturb it much? Do you have to make sure to roll in the seed?

There’s another nozzle that’s a little more gentle. But when I seeded, I just rolled it in and it was fine

I did the consultation with IG after they came out. Now imagine a giant tree shading your golf green smack dab in the middle of it…. Middle stays shaded and each end is sunny all day long. IG said they were having some updates in the future to adjust water in the “shaded area”. What are your thoughts on that?

I have a heavy clay soil, I already have problems with run off. I’m using a Hunter and have to use a pretty aggressive spray and soak program to get the water to actually stay in the lawn. Would the irrigreen have a solution for this. I’m replacing the Hunter controller with a Rachio because the Hunter constantly has software problems that the can’t ever seem to fix, the WiFi drops out regularly then it defaults to a regular straight time system. I’ve already spent a couple thousand just in repairs on the one. If I can save water and get it to soak in it would be worth it. When my irrigation is running twice a week my water bill increases by over $100. We have to irrigate 10 months out of the year in Houston. Will it help?

I'll think about it ....currently I'm having all the utility companies come out and mark(neighbor's tree got hit by lightning, so destroyed the huge oak and my internet lines) and altho the water line isn't near the rest, they should be coming out today to mark it as I want to talk to them about putting a separate meter for irrigation

Cost of water savings seem nice, but a break-even analysis doesn’t seem to tell the whole story. I think it would be such a benefit to have better consistent coverage, less overspray and only a couple sprinklers to monitor. Way less than the over 45 heads in my current system of 4 stations. I see I could combine two stations (12 heads) into one Irrigreen. Cue the dreamy screen and music… Thanks for the video. I may not get to convert to Irrigreen this year, but research will start!!

Have you measured the inches of water?? Maybe the irrigreen isnt giving you the same inches as b4, were you wasting THAT much water on overspray?? The overlap puts shitton down fast

I did something different with the two units and allowed them to pull from their respective weather data. I actually turned down the inches per week on the irrigreen. It would water twice on a hot week usually. The other would come on more often but if you look back, you could see the difference in the lawn where the sprinklers were vs the original system

You use a lot of water. Family of 3 and a dog, 2700sq feet lawn, used about 10.000 galons. I have a cool season lawn, and i accept that summer hurts it and i do nut push more water.

The totals were for two combined months. Meaning that I averaged what, 17,500 gallons each on the hottest time of year with a family of 6, a full time renter in a studio apartment, dog, cat, a pool, 5000ft lawn with 1500 of the being a sand based gold green…. I’d say that’s not very much water. In fact, it sounds like per unit it’s less than you and my lawn doesn’t suffer in the heat.

These should cost $75 a head and $200 for the controller. If I had a 3D printer I could make these. Some really cheap chips and sensors and a solenoid valve is all the head needs and a raspberry pi could be the controller.

I've taken one of the 1st gen units apart and it's 2 servos and a ball valve. The magic happens in the upper porting of the head that has a injection molded manifold that splits the water flow into multiple streams. In my opinion these should be $35 a head. They are less intricate to produce than even a common Rainbird 5000 rotor that's sold for $15. These are more software than hardware. I would be surprise if Irrigreen goes under in the next few years and the patents are bought up by one of the big manufactures. It's a great concept but unfortunately they have priced themselves out of the mass market to make ends meet.

The tech really doesn’t have many issues at all. Is it perfect, no; but it’s still a great product. Their biggest problem is their customer support. 4 calls, 12 emails, and I finally got a response from their marketing person via LinkedIn who forwarded 2 months of reach out attempts to their VP, before someone would respond. If they can’t invest they, they won’t survive.

I suppose. It works. I was given a test two head system. I bought another system and added more heads to mine. I’d say that I’ve spent the money and I’ve gotten the results comparatively. It works. Doesn’t mean anyone else needs to buy the system, but it works as advertised.
