You do a great job with these mowers my friend! One thing to consider in your restorations is to strip and then re-bright zinc plate the parts that were originally zinc plated. I have a small zinc plating station that I use in my business. Re-bright zinc plating the steel parts in my restorations makes them look brand new. It's also very satisfying to make old bolts look brand new again. Keep up the good work.

Looking at the rotten out deck makes me realize just how blessed i was in having the facilities to make one out of stainless. I think it's ... oh 14 and change years old now and the paint (i know, blasphemy, paint on stainless) is still in mint condition. That jamble said, great resto, as usual. It's neat to see these units in their prime.

Very nice! Only criticism would be, my old dad was an engineer for the British army and Rolls Royce, he taught me, if your using nut and bolt put the nut on the bottom that way if the nut comes of for whatever reason you only loose the nut and everything stays where its supposed to be within reason, if you do it the other way round you loose the nut and bolt and the whole shebang falls to bits!

If anyone ever needed a zero turn mower I nominate you as the zero turn mower poster child! Just watching you mill about, backing and filling on that little lawn fatigued me. I used to cut my lawn with a mower like yours. We're talking an acre of grass that took me three hours to cut, what with outbuildings and various trees and other obstacles. Now with a zero turn it takes ma about one hour and I am getting faster at it with practice. (My first summer with a zero turn ) An additional BIG benefit is that the zero turn, with comparison to my old mower, is just about effortless. Try one if you ever get a chance. You'll never go back to the old style.

loving the work but a few suggestions to make your life easier. cover the paint stripper with a plastic sheet (or wrap the part loosly in plastic sheet) to slow its drying and letting it work longer. fill bolt holes with tape before painting so you wont foul the threads maybe look into some electrolysis for things like the new old stock bearing housings so you can repair the zinc plating otherwise exactly what we have come to expect from you, a good resto

This probably isn't relevant to this video, I can't remember because I have been binge watching all of these videos of yours 😂, but anyway, I notice that you seem to put your decals on dry, and as someone that has put on hundreds of decals, if you spray some windex or the equivalent of that on your surface first, you can apply your decal and use a squeegee to work out any air bubbles and the window cleaner evaporates after a couple of hours. I learned this method from people who apply decals and placards fir a living. Hope this is helpful. By the way, I have been watching your FS videos for years, I'm a big fan! Keep up the good work!

Hi, I love your videos, as I am learning about small engine repair as a hobby. I was wondering if you ever considered making a series of videos about the components/mechanics and function of a small engine, its parts (ie on a riding mower, deck, belts, etc), and how you diagnose problems. I can't find anyone on KZbin that explains things as well as you do. That was not meant to butter you up! However, it's true. You present your material in a logical and clear way.

The second patch of grass, the thick stuff, looks like it could have been cut a little cleaner with some higher RPMs. But I don't know what that engine can do. Considering the low RPM/high torque nature of diesel engines and the small size of the deck and blades, they probably should have made this deck with smaller spindle pullies.

I wish I had this video in April when I recommissioned a Westwood 1012H. I overhauled the deck, no where near as nicely as your's though. Stripped it right back, regrettably didn't take photos of how it went together. Hammering the spindles out was a nightmare & I ended up damaging the threads. But got them tapped & they're fine now. Wire brushed rust & loose paint off the deck & welded on 2 patches & a large portion of skirt. Painted the deck with black hammerite. Put it back together with new bolts, bearings & sharpened the blades. I used old lino for the flap at the rear. Gave the mower a full service, new pulley bearings, a few new belts & a really good clean. Replaced the rakes in the PGC & was amazed at the difference! All I need now would be deck brake pads & a decent seat Know where I could get any?

Great work! Interesting that such a brute of a tractor has only two spindles. Mine is definitely not diesel but has 50" deck with 3 spindles. I guess maybe cheaper with fewer spinning parts, bearings, etc? ( I figured riding mowers had smaller blades so more of the blades could be at the maximum allowed tip speed, no idea if that's true)
