@@remb_ I see his name crop up quite a lot yes! (Ridout). He must've won a prestigious competition or something. As a luthier- I *don't* like the viola he is playing on... it has a "thin" sound, it is narrow in timbre to my ears. It is evenly powerful across all strings, except when it gets to the A string..... metallic city!!! I believe it is a Brescian instrument, but it hasn't aged wonderfully and also the bow Ridout uses might be too harsh. A heavy bow could perhaps change the quality to something more pleasant. Anyway, I digress. I too love Lawrence Power as a prominent violist - his Walton viola concerto is essentially perfect and exactly how I want to hear it: tempo, phrasing, dynamics, timbre. Lawrence pulls out *all* the stops!

@@liamnevilleviolist1809 i agree that Lawrence power is absolutely brillant and i found Antoine Tamestit insane too on Walton Concerto. I also agree that Ridout has a sometimes fine or muffled sound, but that doesn't take away from the enormous quality of his playing and sound palette. You can feel the music and his emotions through his playing and he has everything to become the great name of the viola. His Bow is actually a violin bow, but I think you already know that. I've never heard the Walton concerto by Lawrence power, do you have a link ?

excellent young viola player. Pity the sound quality is so poor that you miss out on a lot of the subtleties of the performance.
