I used to record the Lawrence Welk show back in the late 70's and early 80's over the air. At the time of this post, I have not seen this episode on Public Television. The program begins with the first song as there were a some issues when the VHS tape was captured. One of the things that interests me about this program is the way the audience is seated. The audience seems to be elevated and the cameras are below the seating.

Another excellent rendition form Gail, Ron and Micheal. They are such great harmonisers, superb singing loved every minute. I have not mentioned Anaconi before but must simply say, absolutely one word GREAT. I love her songs in Spanish and gels so well with the boys of the band.

That rendition of The Beer Barrel Polka at the end is kick butt flawless! You can see Jo Ann Castle just letting loose on that piano!

HEY MUST HAVE MEMORIES BY THE 100 + BRINGING IN DIFFERENT ARRANGEMENTS AS TNHEY GO ALONG THEIR MUSICAL JOURNEY. TREMENDOUS. I AM STILL A HAPPY OLD MAN WITH THE GREAT LIST I HAVE OF THEIR PERFORMANCES.(I AM 88 YEARS OLD BEING AN EX DANCE BAND MUSICIAN FROM THE LATE 40s 50s)

What did you play in your dance band. I used to play in a dance band (only 7 pieces) in the 70's, but we played mostly "stock" arrangements -- many arranged by Johnny Worthington.

HI, ROBERT, Trumpet was my instrument and as you I played in a 7 piece band in the late 40s and early 50s. I was enlisted in our Armed Forces. En route to Hong Kong an entertainment party was formed aboard our ship and I was invited to trasnfer to Members of the Regiment HQ on arrival in Hong Kong which I so did and on arrival went about forming a Entertainments party, mainly musicians in our large barracks. I was at that time promoted to Regimental Musical Director. We were very popular throughout the Colony even playing at Stanley Prison Officers Club on Hong Kong Island monthly.I must add that I had the time of my life. All in all these were great days in my life and now at 89 enjoy the Lawrence Welk SHOW WHICH GIVES ME A REMINDER OF THE BIG BAND DAYS.@@RobertGundlachMusic

This is one of two holy grails for me (the other one was unearthed a couple of years ago on KZbin)--have been looking for this episode for years. Not only did PBS never rerun it, but because it was the season premiere in 1980 it wasn't rerun the following summer. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

My brother and I are the only caregivers for out mother who is 97 with advanced dementia. I had converted the shows from old VHS tapes to computer files about 15 years ago. I found that my mother is able to enjoy the shows even with her dementia.

This is greatly appreciated. I'm writing a book on Bob Havens and it is excruciatingly frustrating that OETA (or anyone else for that matter) is not interested in licensing anymore new/old shows for rebroadcast. Seeing this is fascinating as Bob has some nice solos I'd never heard before. Please post more. Thank you!

That's really too bad. There are a lot of shows that haven't been shown on PBS in twenty years (Spotlight on our Musical Family and On Tour need a rebroadcast or a release on DVD or streaming, which I don't see happening).

Not sure it is all OETA’s fault. Larry Welk Jr has ownership of all shows, I believe, its really up to him and the Welk Group to release more shows for us, but there seems to be no willingness on their part to do so.

You're right, LWjr does own the shows. They should, at the very least, be digitally preserved.

Wonderful! I like seeing Jo Ann's one and only return after her 1969 departure. Fun episode. It's great that you have a few shows to post. Any chance you might have the 1967 "Crazy Rhythm" episode that aired in reruns in March of 1983?? that is a great one but hasn't been on since then (even though I wrote OETA a few times and asked!).

I didn't get a VCR until 1979. So I have some shows from 1979 and most all of the shows from 1980 until the end. I have found about 17 shows on KZbin from the years that you mentioned.
