Definitely going to invest in those figures both male and female. I have to get back to the fundamentals before advancing forward.

Good plan! It's the way to become a much better artist yet so many don't grasp that. #ShareTheVideo!

Actually I am already an artist. Been drawing since I was about 4 years old. Got a degree from Savannah College of Art and Design. 1993 graduate. I was completely focused until I got involved and life threw me a nasty curve that I didn't see coming. Then the whole graphic design industry was revolutionized by all of these graphic design softwares such as QuarkXpress and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. My professional career as a graphic designer really stunted my creativity. As of now, I am completely rebuilding myself as an artist. My drawing coordination is off and I have to practice and get it back. Been sketching off and on since the beginning of 2018.

What I meant was that we're all improving as artists! I constantly work on my anatomy - I still go to life drawing groups too! You've got to keep those basic skills sharp right!!

Absolutely! Never stop improving when it comes to studying the human anatomy. Learning never ends when it comes to human anatomy. Pointblank!

Very interesting! I didn't know ( or just forgot) that 3d total had actual physical models for sale. I see on their website that they also have a male model with interchangeable arms and head.
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW6 жыл бұрын
That one looks awesome. If I review another one that is probably the one I'd go for!! Either that or the female. Id like to see them do the female with interchangeable arms - what do you think? Also, a while back someone asked in the comments on another video about differently proportioned figures (Over-weight, not as tall, child etc) what do you think of?
@eleanortaylor43896 жыл бұрын
Lawrence Mann Yes, they need to do a female one with interchangeable poses and I would like some hand ones, like lifesized left and right hands. It would be neat if they could make the lifesized hands poseable too.
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW6 жыл бұрын
I want an ear which is semi transparent in the right parts. Maybe a pair of them and I'd like them even to be wall mountable!!
@eleanortaylor43896 жыл бұрын
Lawrence Mann That would be good or some eyes. Some animals would be good too.

Great review mate. Although for me at least, close up the details look a little softened somehow. Pricey as well. A very similar sculpt can be found on ebay for £15 delivered! I have one, and the details are very sharp.
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW4 жыл бұрын
Very interesting. Send a link. I'm sure it'll go to spam - all links get caught my KZbin as spam but I'll take a look and maybe do a review!!
@LurkingCrassZero4 жыл бұрын
@@LAWRENCEcanDRAW Search ebay for item number 293668174438 and you'll get a result for the pair (male and female) for £25. They're less 'heroic' looking than this sculpt tbh, but very finely detailed and more averagely proportioned. I have them in grey, but there's different colours available if you look. It'd be great if you did a review!
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW4 жыл бұрын
I would review those! For a couple of squid more you can get the painted versions. What do you think of those?
@LurkingCrassZero4 жыл бұрын
@Lawrence Mann I personally prefer the grey ones tbh. They cast very nice shadows. The realistically painted ones might muddle up the nice black shadows against grey. Get whatever suits you best. I would be curious to see what the realistically painted ones look like and the quality of the paint job. I suspect you may want to maybe give the paint job some fine tuning though ;-)

Colour ones just might stand out more in my studio - it's beginning to look like a crazy cabin in here!

I've been eyeing these since I've held them and been drooling ever since. Only reason why I haven't bought them, is there's at least 4 figures I want to buy at once. Have you ever used the Poser software Lawerance? The program was originally created as a figure reference program for artists. I still use it as such, owning and using some very well made models (with bone attachments & muscle maps). Poser is fantastic to take a figure, pose, adjust lighting, add the skeleton & muscle maps. From there you can increase or decrease the figure to see the skeleton underneath &/or the same for skin and muscle maps. However, even though Poser overall is the ultimate artists tool for figures (including animals), there's nothing like holding a well made figure reference like 3DAnatomy Tool figures in your hands. Good video. If you have and use Poser, that would make a great video. If you have a Android app or Windows android emulator, a cheap but, very good atomically correct Artists Skeleton app called Skelly, is something you might want to look into. The poseable skeleton model can also use planes of the bones. Check it out in the play store.
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I remember when Poser first came out. I've never been a fan. It just seems kind of cold and empty. Using 3D models to create or as a reference for digital paintings always does to me. Not sure why. Poser has gotten better over the years and it looks great but I'm not sure it can ever bring that soul into the work that I need it to bring. In an ideal world I'd use life models. Unfortunately artists can't randomly hire ladies of the night and still be heralded and still go down in history for the right reasons. We have to go to life drawing studies and I checked - filming a KZbin video there might be frowned upon. lol.
@johnkon28106 жыл бұрын
Lawrence Mann... no, a live model will never be replaced & nothing will come close. What I don't get though, is you bought this figure in the video as a guide, right? It's a reference tool. That's what poser is. However with poser and similar software you can adjust lighting, perspective, the models themselves. Almost every Wednesday I go to my local art college to sketch & draw live models. There's certainly a difference from figures referenced from Poser because Poser models aren't real. However, my sketches from Poser aren't lifeless. Life is added by the artist. I've seen plenty of students butcher a live model in their sketches. I'm not talking about skill, I mean: there is no soul in their drawing. So... Why, even bother with the figure in this video, as a reference? Because, it's the same premise, software or Hardware their tools. I'm baffled to be frank. Perhaps I'm missing the point
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW6 жыл бұрын
I've always found that every drawing I've done from Poser to be somehow lacking. I've never been happy with the results. It's a successful piece of software so I understand that many artists are happy to use it BUT for me it's a no. Everyone works in different ways. I'm glad about that. I wouldn't want us all to work in the same way. In fact, I try to constantly evolve the way I work which is why I do keep one eye on Poser and software like it. But I'm still not convinced by it yet. Not for me at least.
@johnkon28106 жыл бұрын
Lawrence Mann... that's why I mentioned Skelly. And absolutely, each to their own, that's preference. I Agree 200%! However, unless you're "copying" the figure of a model in Poser (which can be altered in millions of ways)... then even if we used the same "reference," it should look differently. All I'm saying is: when I buy my anatomy tool - figures, and use them as a reference, would our figures look the same if I own the same one you have? If used as a reference... the answer is NO. Again, Poser is a tool. Same thing as the AnatomyTool figure, a photo, a Poser figure, a picture from a book, the classic artists wooden mannequin and even a live model. It's all the same "premise," if used as a reference. "Preference" should be the only defining quality, unless of course you're copying more than you realize. A lot of my students have done so, without realizing. Maybe that's why your Poser drawings look lifeless, as you mentioned? That's the logical my assumption. Edit: because Poser being successful or not, shouldn't matter. Poser has become so popular because people who can't draw figures, make artwork with the 3D models. They aren't using it as true artists use it... we use it the same way as a wooden artists mannequin with the only difference being, the 3D model can be posed better, along with all the other previous benefits I mentioned. Food for thought... nothing less or more, mate
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW6 жыл бұрын
Having the exact pose is the one thing that Poser has over any figure but I found the fine details were still way off last time I looked. It was still very puppet like. Maybe they did a major overhaul but I doubt it. It looks great on the pics they put out but on the tests we did it didn't perform ás advertised' let's just say. How did you get on with it. We didn't buy any extras for it though - you're right though. Obviously we were not going to do that having seen less than stellar results straight away.

Hi Lawrence, very nice painting ! you rock ! 😍👍 I'm taking a look at these mannequins on 3dtotal web site, because I don't own any and it would be practical to have one or two or three... they are relatively expensive !.. so may be next month !

Yeah ! that's the day ! Thanks for telling me about your feeling with these mannequins, I think they could help me, because sometimes ... it's hard to figure it out what's wrong with the posture ! we know something is wrong but ... questions questions... and the mannequin may solved that problem quickly !
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW6 жыл бұрын
Plus you can take a mold of it and make anatomical lollipops in the summer!! BOOM!
@johnkon28106 жыл бұрын
Eric Duchesnes ... exactly. Poser is a great software reference tool. Actually, if you go to www.Daz3D.com, they still have free software & I believe the base Genesis figure free. In my opinion, Poser is easier to use but, check it out. Think a hand held model in digital form that you can pose (x,y,z cube format). Posers' original intention was to replace the wooden mannequin. It has become it's own art form but, you can still use it as originally designed... a figure reference posing tool. If you have any questions let me know. It can seem daunting to some people but, it's probably the best figure & portrait reference tool I own, aside from live models.

Nice work there Sir Lawrence! Although I would rather have a pose-able version,..but that one certainly has a purpose and would be one those items that would be great to have just for general reference. Were you using Corel Painter there?

How much! As well made as they may be I find Anatomy360's digital model products to be very handy, and a LOT cheaper. You could buy a tons of packs from them, and have an awesome lighting and effects GUI to boot.
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW6 жыл бұрын
Well you'll enjoy this FREE exclusive Anatomy360 reference model then ;D sabercathost.com/9k12/Anatomy360_Lawrence_Mann.zip - I don't like Poser and while I think digital apps can be useful I think they are a very different tool to be used. It's not an either/or. Just because you're a digital artist, don't forget that your bond with the physical world isn't a bad thing. That tangible reference can make more of a connection for you. Especially if you're seeing it every day on your desk.

That's gone right up my flagpole that has!!! I'm saluting that idea. A life study video. Love it. I'll credit you of course. Maybe make it a three parter. lol. ...or maybe not. Anatomy Tools offers a much superior product, these aren't 100% anatomically correct. The sculpt is some what sloppy as well, I noticed seams on the side and the back of the figure.
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW6 жыл бұрын
Can you name the Anatomy tools. Preferably physically models and not apps. I noticed a couple of seems but I could quickly clean those up with a scalpel. I did in fact after the review - I wanted to leave them on during so it was an unbiased review obviously. I believe the sooner you order the better the sculpt. As with any cast.
