So, now the next challenge will be harnessing the power to make the truck go faster. I already have some cal-tracs I need to install, but whats a good street/strip tire? I may do a small disc brake conversion out back so I can fit a proper 15" wheel with good tire options out back...

Flat 4l80e flexplate for the 4l80e, Dished 4l60e flexplate for a 4L60E unless it's a custom converter. Sometimes you need an adapter on the 4l80e unless they have the long crank.

How heavy do you think the turbo 8.1 is? Contemplating doing a swap on my 1990 2500 HD from tbi 350 to 8.1L but I would really like to keep it lighter. In the sense that the truck is mostly used off-road… without even the front sway bar, plan on doing lockers soon. But what’s your opinion on said subject? I know a aluminum LS is light but expensive. And I really like the lower rpm torque to high rpm max power.

You'll smoke that transmission by only relying on an auxiliary cooler and removing the liquid cooler in the radiator. The coolant in the radiator will reduce fluid temps way quicker than just an air cooler. Think about this, you have an orange hot piece of steel what's gonna cool it off quicker, a fan or a bucket of water? I'd hook that radiator cooler back up in addition to what you have or you'll smoke it. Ask me how I know....

a higher gear like 3.42 or 3.23 will help load the engine harder which helps the turbo spool quicker, plus it matches the lower RPM power the big block makes. I had 4.30s in there before, and it was just too much. it actually got faster with the 3.42
