Hey, everyone! Welcome to this Mometrix video over the four laws of thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is a branch of physical science (or physics) that focuses on the correlation of heat and all other forms of energy, and, consequently, how all forms of energy relate to one another. The four laws of thermodynamics work to define the foundational physical quantities that mark thermodynamic processes when at thermal equilibrium. These foundational physical quantities include temperature, energy, and entropy.

The "Zeroeth Law" basically states that all prepositions begin in equilibrium. A=B=C. Working from that assumption, all of Newtonian Physics works. Though, often unstated, it is an implication that cannot be ignored or left unstated. Great video!

Some say air conditioner violate the 2nd law due to a term called COP (Coefficient of performance) Most split system ls now have a COP of at least 2 or higher because they generate 2 watts of cooling for 1 watt of electrical energy expended

Thank. You. God. lol I was trying to understand this and even though you used a lot of big words, you broke it down enough.

Thank you ma'am. Zeroth law highlights equilibrium of e closed n connected system whereas other 2 laws relate to 2 systems. Jussojuan

The zeroth law simply is , if you take a chicken pot pie out of the oven and put it on a table, you put a frozen chicken pot be right beside it and then you come back a day later and you measure the temperature of both they will be the same. Otherwise known as common sense. That’s why it was the last law .

Sort of, she literally explained that the Zeroth law is first because even though it was discovered later it sets the stage for the rest of the laws of thermodynamics. Because it gave the definition of temperature. Before temperature was defined as a degree of hotness which in reality is just a relative feeling, because temperature measures the movement of molecules (kinetic energy) between two things (liquid, vapor & solids, and the transformations thereof)from hot to cold, for example, if you put a glass of ice water at room temperature it eventually will melt the ice but the glass of water will still feel cold even though it tried to absorb the heat from its surroundings. Over time, however, it will become equal to the room temperature unless we add more ice. But again over time, it will become equal to room temp. Hence A(Heat inside the room)=B ( Ice water) B( Melted ice water at room temp)=C ( additional Ice that over time will be equal to B).

2nd law only applies to closed systems. as far as we know there are no closed systems. best not to use this law at all. it will give you inaccurate results and make you confused about how things work.

This is just not true. The probability of heat transferring from cold to hot in any spontaneous system is so close to 0 we would never see it in our lifetime. This is because of the trillions of atoms.
