Hello there, my name is matt radder & I play NCAA D3 at fitchburg state, I really like your video. Obviously, there is huge differences in gameday’s from D1 vs. D3 with perks and such, that being said, to all the hockey players out there, D3 is still taken very seriously & way more serious than any other D3 sport men or womens. However, I never reached my goal of playing D1, but I am more than happy playing D3. You still are rockstars on campus & still have an unreal time. Not to mention the fact that the hockey is still very good and many play professionally afterwards. The top teams like Norwich, Wisco-Stevens Point, Geneseo, etc. are just as good as any low end D1 team like AIC for example. If yoy have the chance to continue your hockey career for as long as you can, do it! I love where I am & my teammates feel the same as me. (I have teammates who have played in the BCHL, NAHL, EHL, etc.)

A good friend of mine played D1 at AIC, won rookie of the month and was a solid player, new coach came in and basically wiped the whole team for his recruits. He went from D1 to D3 after that, ACHA D3 though to have some fun lol. He figured since he didn’t make the show he wasn’t going to pursue another D1 school for the same reason you did, didn’t wanna sit out a year. I’m sure as you know the politics in hockey can ruin a lot of good players careers, very sad, just found your channel though and love that you’re still happy about playing after your situation, best sport out there!

Wow. After I got cut from my NAHL team I stopped playing hockey all together. I figured nobody took D3 hockey seriously so I never pursued the interest I had from those schools. It’s been a little over 3 years now since I quit and I wish I had a broader perspective back then. Hockey is a big ego sport, but don’t let that convince you not to take the opportunities you’re so bless to get.

I wish i had the opportunity to play higher level hockey. I had such shit luck through my midget years, our AA system in where i live was the most political i've ever seen, there wasn't a AAA team close enough to be practical, plus having a Dad who was a very prominent and hated(because he did his job well) local referee meant coaches never liked me so i never got callups(no i wasn't just bad i led my Comp A team in points every year through midget from 15yo-18yo). I walked on for an MJAHL team in 17/18 but wasn't prepared for how intense it would be(yes that one was my fault) and got let go at second cuts, got let go from the Jr.B league cause i "prioritized Finesse over physicality" and that is a direct quote from the head coach. And finally had scheduling conflicts with my Jr.C team i ended up with and school and had to leave that team. I'm JUST now having another go at decent hockey, at 21yo I'm gonna be playing Sr.AA(Lots of ex CHL, JrA, D1, D3 and ECHL guys) in 20/21 in hopes of getting a call from a SPHL, FPHL or LNAH team somewhere down the line. Might happen might not, but the dream is still alive. Thank you for listening to my not yet concluded journey

Many ACHA D1 and some good D2 programs run very similar to ncaa d3. I’ve played against kids from NCAA D3 who dropped down to ACHA and they weren’t even lights out there. Shame college hockey doesn’t have nearly as many ncaa D1 spots as there are worthy athletes (limited number of D1 programs is largely financial)

Question: Those who are in D1, are they the ones who get drafted in NHL? I'm new to the hockey world, so please help me out in understanding how this game works.
@ig_90k-ops75
@ig_90k-ops75 2 жыл бұрын
NHL goes for the best of the best, they wont check D3, and sometimes D1 players dont get drafted, they are signed or called a UDFA (undrafted free agent) there is two routes tho to get drafted, you can either player Juinor A in canada or Tier 1 hockey in the usa which is the USHL. if you take the Junior A and tier 1 hockey way, then you can go to college hockey and can be drafted or sign a UDFA. The second way is playing in the CHL (Canadian hockey league) which has the QMJHL (Quebec major junior hockey league), WHL (western hockey league), OHL (Ontario hockey league). if you go to the CHL, that means you cannot play any level of college hockey in america at all. hope that makes enough sense
