Sainz is totally underrated to this day. If he manages to understand that horrible Williams car (which I'm confident he will) he'll surely become a cornerstone for the team for 2026. Also, don't forget he's one of the most intelligent drivers on the grid. It will be interesting to see how flexible Williams is when it comes to complying with his suggestions and on-the-fly strategy changes.

I have a funny feeling Sainz is going to dominate Albon. Albon has had two of the worst drivers in the last 25 years as teammates, Latifi and Logan. A rookie Colapinto gave Albon troubles, imagine what Sainz is going to do
@ccramit4 сағат бұрын
I think if you go back and look at all of Colapinto's races, it is not as impressive as you all keep thinking it is. He had like 2 or 3 good races. Other than that, his other races were pretty terrible. So terrible in fact, that Red Bull cooled on their interest and even Alpine are like. "Yeah, we think we might just stick with Jack Doohan."

I also think Carlos can dominate Albon but Carlos seems like a guy who would also help him if he asks as they both want williams to do good. But yeah albon has been a bit too crash happy in the 2nd half of the season, it could be due to development route making the car bit snappy or it was the entry of a rookie who pushed him and he wanted to prove but ended up pushing too much.
@TheMissiIe4 сағат бұрын
@ccramit Colapinto was a nobody. Even most people who knew some F2 drivers had no clue who Colapinto was. This isn't a Piastri we're talking about. That's my point. Even if Colapinto won say 25% of the H2Hs, that's a rookie doing that. My point is that Sainz will go 20-4 against Albon

I feel like this is a 70/30 for Sainz. He’s either gonna do amazing (best possible outcome) or he’s gonna end up going to a Ricciardo route and end up washed after one good performance. (Worst possible outcome) Note: Just as a clear up I think that Sainz is amazing driver and I hope he will perform well at Williams. This comment is obviously just a possibility on what could happen. Sainz has changed teams a lot in his f1 career and has shown he can adapt to his car quickly unlike Ricciardo which is why I’m confident that he won’t take the same path as him.

This is promising stuff from Sainz. The precedent he is setting with the Mechanics & Engineers is exactly what that team needs. They've been baptized in fire and keeping that momentum is key. This could end up being a Smooth Operation by 2026.
@DarkPhoenixDack1253 сағат бұрын
Lewis did not go to Mercedes and improve it to a top team, he went to Mercedes that got the new engine regulations right and Mercedes made itself the top team. Michael Schumacher improved Ferrari to a top team over his tenure there, that would be a good example. It is typical that the personal trainer would move with the driver. They are usually contracted with the driver, not the team. Williams mechanics taking the car apart and putting it back together whilst on a time crunch is nothing new to them this season. Those mechanics are top tier for what feats they've accomplished this year. Sargeant did out qualify Albon twice, albeit both were sprint qualifying. With Carlos at Williams, I'm doing my usual, hope for the best, prepare for the worst. I wish the best for him since he is the reason I liked Ferrari at all, and he deserves all of the love.

I think Sainz really thrives on a good relationship with the team, feeling being an integral part of it, and pulling on one string together. Thats why I think his McLaren years where his best and I questioned his move to Ferrari in the first place. It seems though Williams und James Vowles is intent on giving Sainz exactly what I described above. Him being an integral part of their journey to the top and not just him being the guy that drives the car. So I think how he'll do will depend on Williams being able to make good on their promise ofnsteady progress

I think Ferrari actually made the exact same mistake they did pre-Schumacher. A team in on its ideals, not allowing any outside suggestions. Not until Michael came did Ferrari begin to listen and resurrect to what they did in the late 90s and 2000s. Speaking of which, I think Sainz chose Williams for the same reason Michael chose Ferrari. A worse team, yes, but the chance to bring them back to the top, such historic teams, was such good-looking that both Sainz and Schumacher chose them, and I think Carlos had Schumacher in mind when making the decision. By this do I mean Sainz will go on to have a 5 year championship streak like Schumacher eventually? No, but it's still a very interesting prospect.

You know what's nuts. Carlos' facial expressions vs Ocon's, it's like Ocon just got the best news of his life and carlos saw a ghost. When I was growing up the sport was dominated by four teams - Williams, Ferrari, McLaren and Benetton (later Renault, now Alpine). Am I right in thinking Carlos is the first driver to drive for all four teams in his career? Senna drove for three of them (Toleman, before they changed names to Benetton, McLaren and Williams) as did Prost (McLaren, Ferrari and Williams), Berger (Benetton, Ferrari and McLaren), Mansell (Williams, Ferrari, McLaren), Raikkonen (McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus-Renault), Alonso (Renault, McLaren, Ferrari) and Button (Williams, Benetton and McLaren) but I can't think of anyone else who did all four.

coming in acting and performing like the no.1 driver is expected of Carlos. there's no other purpose for him at williams if not to be that. he's a solid really good driver but not a generational talent, so he'll never be prioritized at a top team. therefore this is his chance to have a team rally around his strengths for car development. if he (hopefully) outperforms Albon, it doesnt reflect poorly on Alex, cause Carlos is the more experienced driver coming from a top team, having been in the fight for podiums/constructors titles. Lawson and Tsunoda aren't at the top of Horner and Marko's minds. Who does Red Bull have then? Christian Horner knows that, if he brings in either Lawson or Tsunoda and they don't perform, everyone will be questioning the team's driver development decisions; which will be a reflection on Horner's team leadership. Red Bull's next pick as main team's #2 driver will be important for the future employment of people within Red Bull (Horner & Marko). I believe after that (and with the burden of a year full of crashes in Williams) his car was not the same (and he was not the team's priority to receive the best car parts), which affected how competitive he was after that. LawVS, really excited by the influence Carlos is already having on the Williams Team (post-season testing appetizer)! I mean Williams consistently producing in the mid-field (11th - 8th or better in race trim), lowered accident rate (fingers crossed), strategy improvements with Carlos guidance/mind could definitely shake-up the backfield, but more importantly Aston Martin's 2025 challenges (Fernando/HAAS/Alpine contributions considered) may have grown with Williams enhancement/augmentation potential having Carlos there. Now, I hear ya, "expectations management", but Carlos has the right attitude, skills and work ethic which he has already started to impart on the Williams team and they are already winning from learning by supporting him in testing (I mean he was there for like a couple of hours and he had them tear the car apart, make adjustments and work through lunch). While I want Carlos to win and be on the podium again, for me he doesn't have to get that at Williams in 2025 necessarily (it would be stratospheric if he did!), but a legacy of re-honing the competitiveness of one of F1's legendary brands...that is "hall of legends" potential for Carlos (and he knows it). Finally, everyone in F1 know that Carlos at Williams is a misalignment and balance is likely to be restored in short order, but James Vowles squeezing every drop he can out of this opportunity will be crucial. 2025 is going to be exciting. Thanks for the content and keeping the F1 blood flowing during the winter break, CHEERs!

Williams finally have two great drivers. They just need to build a car around them. The ones that suits them. If they are able to pull that off, I’m sure they’ll dominate at least the midfield. And obviously we’ll have to wait and watch for 2026. JV is very positive about their 2026 development. So let’s see

As a longtime HAAS fan, I was truly sad when I learned Sainz went to Williams instead of HAAS. I get it. Williams has such a long history and given some cash could [one day] be back into the top echelon of teams, but... The HAAS car/team is, for a lack of better words, 50% Ferrari already so we have the technical relationship already. Secondly, bringing in Sainz would help bring more $$$ for poor Gene Haas [ehem] who for reasons unknown just cannot find decent sponsorship despite outperforming expectations for many years [exclude the 'Russian' years when it all went sour]. I am rooting for Carlos, I think he didn't get the respect at Ferrari he deserved, which is a Ferrari norm as they generally like to have a definitive #1 and #2 driver.. so what are they going to do if Lewis finds his 2nd wind [3rd wind perhaps] and gives Charles a go for being top dog?

Not interested in Tyre testing times tbh on a track thats at its maximum after 4 days of running. Sainz was never the guy for Ferrari. Leclerc competes to win, Sainz competes...against Leclerc.

Yep. Huge boost. Even if it's a fraction of the Ferrari deal.

This is becoming my favorite F1 channel on KZbin. I am from Argentina (in the USA) and wanted Franco to keep driving for Williams, badly, but I also welcome Carlos to Williams and am looking forward to what he can bring to the team in 2025. I'm still hoping that either Franco can still find a temporary seat for 2025, or stays with Williams for 2025/2026. I hope Williams can at least bring a car that is driveable and competitive in the upper half of the bunch with Alpine, RB, Hass. P/D: when you mentioned the track times, did Albon and Colapinto get the same chance on an empty track?Cheers!

I thought that the personal trainers work for the drivers, not with the teams.

Nothing should be taken from this test as representative of anything from the season to date in regard to times. They just don’t test drivers they are testing new tires and in addition parts for next year, concepts and the like. Atypically the track is much faster as it just had a bunch of F1 cars rubbering it in for them. I see no reason why a seasoned F1 driver would not be up to speed in any of the cars having just raced there. I see no reason why Williams wouldn’t ask Carlos to push the car a little to get a buttometer assessment of what the drivers have been dealing with all year, all 3 drivers crashed this thing a lot. There is an understated issue with the ground effect cars, the transistion of mechanical grip to full floor effect, the Williams being particularly bad at it. Anywho I fully expect Carlos to be good, I don’t expect Williams to fix much except get on top of the cars weight issues and it’s poor ability to lay down tractive drive moving in the forward direction a simple concept but one they haven’t mastered in the last few years.

Maybe this is wishful thinking, but hoping that sainz gets to stay with williams for a long while and helps them reach very new heights. Maybe even manage to gain podiums in a couple of years. He does look good in that white and blue too.
