The impact of Carlos Sainz at Williams has already made waves and capped off a quiet, but impressive transformation in just one season.

Williams F1 is defying expectations and fighting back against outdated perceptions, thanks to a powerful mix of fresh funding, a renewed testing program, and the electrifying addition of Carlos Sainz. Once dismissed due to antiquated equipment and an overweight car, the team now wields a dynamic driver lineup that includes Sainz and Alex Albon-both ready to prove naysayers wrong. Drawing on lessons from Ferrari, Sainz brings a “race-winning mentality,” while Albon’s experience offers stability and a united front for Williams’ ambitious plans in the cost cap era. Fans worldwide are watching eagerly as this historic team sheds its underdog status and sets its sights on a brighter future in 2025 and beyond.
Sainz’s presence is already echoing Nico Hülkenberg’s transformative role at Haas, boosting morale and shaping long-term growth strategies. James Vowles has praised the Spanish driver’s determination, highlighting his potential to guide Williams back to its former glory. While Sainz’s Ferrari chapter may have ended, his hunger for success continues-bringing fierce energy into the Midfield battle. With rumors swirling and confidence building, Williams’ revival story has the sport buzzing, and every race adds more fuel to the Sainz “revenge arc” narrative.

I think one of the things that speaks volumes about Carlos is the fact that he has been good in a team sense in every team he's been in. He is the epitome of "professional" He's not pompous, he's not shy/scared. He drives the car fast, he points out when he thinks something can be improved, he listens to his employer. He is THE professional in F1 currently.

Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us ‘take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to drive the car.’ Thirty years later, Sebastian told us ‘I had to start my car like a computer, it’s very complicated.’ And Nico Rosberg said that during the race - I don’t remember what race - he pressed the wrong button on the wheel. Question for you both: is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more buttons on the wheel, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the race? Less buttons, more? Or less and more communication with your engineers?

Sainz is the most underrated driver on the grid. Part of me wonders what would have happened if he hadn't had so many DNF's in his rookie season with Max as teammate, and if he got promoted instead. Imagine a Riccardo and Sainz redbull team up in 2018. No crash in Baku, no upset teammates, Ricardo not pushed out of the team, no Albon or Gasly redbull call up. Totally different F1 to the one we know now. Could even have gotten a Max and Lewis team up if Toto got his way. I've got my fingers crossed for Carlos this year.

Let's not forget that while everyone was wetting themselves about Blando Norris last year, Carlos finished the season with the same amount of wins as him but with less bottling involved.
@The_Curious_Cat
@The_Curious_Cat 5 күн бұрын
That would never happen because even before Max was in F1, Red Bull was already wet all the time for him. Sainz would never be promoted while Max was in Toro Rosso. He would just be treated just like Tsunoda with some BS excuse. I mean, look how they treated him after he proved he was fast and consistent in two different cars and teams (Toro Rosso, Renault): denied him going to the Red Bull main team. And even after proving he was fast and consistent in two more cars and teams (McLaren, Ferrari) and despite having a driver that was going through his worse performance in years (Checo) they still denied him a chance in the main team. SO Sainz could even beat Max in Toro Rosso, he would not be promoted. The way they are treating him now pretty much proves that.

I heartily agree and concur! Ever since his rookie and journeyman years with Toro Rosso (Now Racing Bulls) and Renault (Now Alpine), every new team he joined was a legacy historic team that just concluded a disappointing previous year. (Joined McLaren in 2019, after a horrid 2018 season, joined Ferrari in 2021 after a crippling 2020 season and now joining Williams after a costly 2024 season). Primary objective for Carlos Sainz Jr at Williams: Consistent points finishes> Secondary objective: Sneak the Williams onto the Podium, McLaren Brazil 2019 and Ferrari Hungary 2021 style. Bonus objective: Claim a Race Win for Williams, what he nearly did in Italy 2020 for McLaren (A few more laps and he would have a fighting change to overtake Pierre Gasly, who won the race) and what he did for Ferrari in Singapore 2023.

Let Carlos Cook, wits go a long way in this sport and we have seen time and time again Carlos's masterclass strategy in races. With James Vowles leadership (the man seems to have as much personality as a machine), big sponshirp money coming in from Carlos (Santander), and a superb driver lineup for them being a backmarker team, Williams can only go up. I also think the team has a great chemistry given both Albon's and Carlos's track record of being very likeable people in the paddock. Maybe I am being too optimistic, but I would love to see a return of glory for the historic British team. I started watching F1 around 2019, and the one thing I have known is how Williams belongs in the gutter. I'm not even a fan of the team, but definitely the drivers, so as long as Carlos and Albon are with them I'll be cheering them on.

Carlos has always been the most cerebral of his driver pairings, even if he's not always the absolute fastest on a single lap. In setup and over a race distance that pays dividends. He's also not a driver built on ego, I don't think his image of himself revolves around grinding Alex into the dust, he's too intelligent for that. I think he'd be happier for everyone to work together in a recovering team, while demanding the utmost from them. The ruthless competition with his team mate can come later. This could have been an inspired choice for Williams. I'm really optimistic for them this year.

Imagine Williams up at the front.. Ferrari vs. McLaren vs. Red Bull vs. Mercedes vs. Williams with Aston Martin and Renault getting an irregular top 4-5 place finish. The remaining 3 teams all reached top 8 at least twice or more amongst their drivers. That's my ideal championship scenario that has what I call potential realism : )

I would like for nothing more than Williams to have done miracles over winter and emerge as the 5th best team ahead of Aston Martin. Since they haven't spent the winter changing their entire production process like last year. (although I think James might have over-emphasised the impact slightly). 2025 is going to be super difficult to predict. Beyond Sauber being at the rear, which even that is an unknown, the rest from 5th to 10th could be any order come seasons end. I really hope Sauber isn't as poor as last year, I don't want Nico to be at the back every race.

Williams is a dark horse contender for 2026, especially if the rumors about the Merc power unit are true. I could easily see Williams having the 4th or even 3rd quickest car. Throwback to the beginning of the ✨exquisite✨ turbo hybrid years with the best Grand Prix driver still on the grid: everybody give it up for … Lance Stroll!!!

Fernando Alonso wishes he was Carlos Sainz. As a fan of both, Alonso has often failed to bring technical progress to the teams he has joined, opting to overdrive the car and play political games instead, leading to stagnation and dissappointment. Carlos has an ability to apply positive pressure across all areas of whatever team he's in, bringing new life and success wherever he goes. I mean he literally cleaned up Fernando's mess in the case of McLaren.

I'm not saying this as a Logan fan, but the more I hear about the williams the more I think it wasn't entirely Logan's fault he did so poorly. I'm not absolving him entirely, he needed to show what he could do, but he was driving a overweight, old spec machine and they rarely gave him the same upgrades as Alex. I just hope indycar gives him the place to show what he's capable of in single seat racing(I don't think he'll be beating many big names but he will be at least toward the middle)
@LawVS
@LawVS 5 күн бұрын
Oh yeah. It wasn't his fault entirely. He came in at the worst time for any rookie. The team wasn't in a position to fairly judge them

I have to say that I am not a fan of the F1 O2 shindig. I would like to see proper reveals done by each team but that F1 states the minimum requirements for a reveal ... like : The actual race car, the actual livery and the actual team gear. The rest is scripted by each team and the reveal does not come from the cost cap budget and should be 40 - 45 minutes long. The "obligatory" show at the O2 is a money grab by F1 IMO.

I agree with you. Although I have never really understood why the new livery in old car is such a big deal. Sure it would be nicer to have the real new car but other than years where we have a regulation change the changes are on the surface pretty minimal so waiting until testing to see them just doesn't bother me.
@cococalm

@@DeathBlocks Precisely my point. A faake show with new livery on a mock up is a farce.

@ I'm pretty sure I am in the minority when I say the use of an old/basically old car doesn't bother me. I mean especially since it has been ages since car launch day was anything other than a publicity event to start the excitement for your team and get your sponsors to be plastered all over the F1 internet for a few days. Everybody knows "Car launch" means "Livery reveal".

Carlos is going to show how poor Albion is as a driver. He has been lucky having even worse team mates but Colapinto showed he was close to being the better driver. With less crashes he will be an excellent F1 driver and fairly sure he will take over at Alpine. That might give Jack Doohan a route to Williams where he could learn from Sainz and improve as Williams do.

11:40 i am happy to be able to say @LawVS "i told you so" even before Carlos was signed for Williams i hoped he would go to Williams cuz i feel Williams with James and a much more mature Alex would be a great team for Carlos but also a team that will grow and come back.. but i have been a Williams supporter sense 1991, i always hope the best for Williams, but then James joined Williams i really did see a change and i understand James plan. But people are not patient enough to wait. cuz this kind of work takes minimum 3 years..

As an old F1 fan of 64 years & Ferrari fan for 62 years I now find myself still being a Ferrari fan but an Alonso fanboy, who I’ve followed since his Minardi days .. I remember watching Schumacher in his Ferrari & Alonso in his Benetton & fighting & me shouting for both of my favourite drivers… Being British apparently I’m supposed to support British drivers… but I don’t well not since our Nige that is… I guess I’ll have to start supporting Carlos in his Williams as my family tree going back to 1588 states that my lot got shipwrecked on the West coast of Scotland, so I’m Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Spanish 🇪🇸 .. COME ON CARLOS AND FERNANDO 👏🏼👏🏼👍😂😂

I think Vowles is cooking something for the long term interesting to say atleast, but hopefully it pays off, because if it isn't, Williams is gonna be a rumble for a long time. What i keep thinking is how Carlos fits on the project. Yes sure, Carlos is now on Williams, but the driver career is short, and not sure for how long Carlos will wait for the dinner to be served.

William was sold to Dorilton Capital, a U.S.-based investment firm, and the name is the only original part now, don't think of William like back in the Senna days, it's a different business, they just bought it, and kept the name in 2020
