VCARB's team leader says it would be 'a lie' to deny his drivers would be slow in a Red Bull Racing machine.

Red Bull Racing is facing unprecedented challenges as internal drama and questionable decisions threaten to derail their dominance in Formula 1. From potential financial losses exceeding $50 million to Sergio Perez's struggles with the car, the cracks in their strategy are becoming impossible to ignore. With criticism mounting from within and outside the team, including from their second team's boss, Red Bull finds itself at a crossroads. Will their reliance on Max Verstappen to carry the team be enough to keep them competitive, or is a seismic shift in their driver lineup inevitable? The stakes couldn't be higher as speculation around Perez's replacement heats up, with names like Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson entering the conversation amid complex sponsorship and performance dynamics.
As rivals like McLaren and Ferrari surge forward with strong development programs, Red Bull grapples with outdated facilities and a car that is increasingly difficult to optimize. Could 2025 mark a new era of struggle for the once-dominant team? And what does the future hold for Verstappen, with whispers of a sabbatical and family priorities on the horizon? This video unpacks the controversy, the financial implications, and the high-stakes decisions Red Bull must make to regain their edge. Don’t miss this breakdown of the twists and turns threatening one of F1’s most iconic teams!

I keep getting surprised at how he consistently fills 10-20min videos of contant yapping without it feeling like he's just waffling. Well, I look at it in two ways; if Perez stays, it's because of his money and not on merit, If he gets paid out RedBull is desperate to save their image. Nonetheless, RedBull has a huge logistical problem within their organization that will affect the entire company, leading to a mass exodus of its employees.

Which happened to every team that has a prolonged stint at the top. The loss of employees is factored in at any team. @@shinjiikari4629 williams has albon and sainz, i see no real reason as of now to change that, albon has had some less than stellar races, but taking a rookie is still gonna be a risk over such a senior driver. that leaves alpine and vcarb, if i was colapinto, i'd look at the results in the past decade, and conclude taking a vcarb seat with a shot at a red bull seat is a better career move than going to alpine. the big deciding factor is gonna be the red bull engine more than anything.

It’s a good analogy, but the RB situation is a little different though. Honda specifically only developed the bike for Marc, ignoring the fact no one else could ride it until it bit the in the butt. Newey, Albon and others have stated the RB isn’t specifically designed to Max’s strengths. It’s designed to be fast as possible and Max is able to exploit it the best. I don’t think it’s a coincidence the drop off in understand how to set up the car happened very quickly after Newey left. He seemed to have it well in hand, but RB got kind of lost just after he stepped away. Newey seemed to be the key piece.

It was reported earlier this year that the development potential of Red Bull's car has reached its zenith. Add Red Bull's self-inflicted driver problems (other than Max), and it doesn't look at all promising for Red Bull in 2025. The drivers in the "B" team RB apparently aren't up to snuff with Horner or Marko. At present Red Bull have no one they feel confident can replace Sergio Perez. This doesn't speak well to whoever is in charge of driver development (cough). On the bright side, we all thought this year would be a Red Bull cake walk to both championships, and happily that wasn't anywhere near the truth. Max won by virtue of pulling out an enormous lead at the start of the year, then things just fell apart. This made the year very interesting and entertaining.

I know Albon got promoted after a similiar amount of races, but he also wasn’t exactly a success. Gasly was a huge talent and considered a future star in 2019. He crumbled completely. Yuki deserves that spot. If he doesn’t cut it in 25’ then bin him. At least guve him a shot, can’t get much worse than right now

Also, if cars stay the way they are now - I reckon Lewis is going to have a big shot at the actual title next year. Red Bull are too hit and miss, just like the Mercs, so they shouldnt stand a chance. That leaves McL and Ferrari, with the McL strategy and driver mishaps really letting them down. Ferrari cóuld have the pace, and Lewis imho has the best racepace of those drivers by a mile. Never rule out Max, but if things stay the same.. Lewis is on pole.

If you do a look at qualifying between Liam and Yuki the gaps are small, it’s not really 6 nil because COTA Liam out paced Yuki and did not set a time in Q2 due to the penalty, and the time he set in Q1 was still faster than the time Liam set in Q2 and Q1. There was only once where he really outperformed Liam and that was Vegas. And honestly Law, Liam Mexico was Liam’s only outburst, since then he has been really calm in the car.

I agree. It has been stated by Laurent that they messed up Lawson's car setup in Vegas which does explain the delta somewhat. How I see the Yuki/Lawson debate is if you follow your heart, you put Yuki in for time served, larger fanbase and that he is currently slightly faster. If you follow your head and look at the data and calculate trajectory then it's Lawson. Personally, I don't see Red Bull as having much of a heart...

Despite what Max Verstappen joked with Zac Brown, there is the argument that on average, the Red Bull was the better car for most of the season. If we divide the season in quarters, the first quarter of the season Red Bull had the fastest car, the final quarter of the season it could compete for wins and for the middle two quarters of the season it could compete for podiums. On paper Red Bull should not off lost the Constructors Championship, let alone finish 3rd. Why Sergio is still in the car is beyond anyone's guess? The only theory I have anymore is Red Bull not wanting to undermine their relationship with Verstappen. If Tsunoda or Lawson suffered the same problems Sergio has this season, it would expose the problem being the team and not the driver, and expose the idea that Max is carrying a bad car to performances it doesn't deserve, which might lead Max to consider leaving. Alternatively they might be worried if Tsunoda or Lawson equal or outperform Max which leads to inter-team fighting (similar to what happened when Max came up alongside Riccardo). Despite that however, this situation with Sergio isn't sustainable.

Am I the only one who doesn't buy the idea that the RB20 is now some terrible middle of the pack car? Sure the last part of the season other teams caught up and did well, but Max STILL won the drivers championship, and even when everything was said and done he DOMINATED at Qatar. The car could absolutely hang with the rest of the top runners and when it came to a track it agree with, it was incredible. Perez was just literally that bad. He's gone from a very good driver to one of the worst on the grid very very quickly. Its not unreasonable to think he just fell off and thats it. Its happened to probably dozens of drivers across the history of the sport. It literally happened this season to Danny Ric, where are all the people who said things like "oh once he leaves McLaren and that car, he'll be great again." I dunno, I just really disagree with this classification of Max being some Superman of a driver who dragged his tractor of a Red Bull into destroying the Drivers Champtionship. The car was stupendous in the first 6 races, and from there on it was "just" really fast. I really disagree with using language like "outperform" and "drag it up the order".

How did Lewis shaft Mercedes? He announced before the season even started that he is leaving, at the end of his contract. When they also made it obvious that he is getting a one year extension because his replacement is on the way. And Ricciardo was like half way through the season if I remember correctly. Although from what I have heard he made it seem like his new contract with them was basically just a formality.
@Cherenkov28
@Cherenkov28 23 сағат бұрын
Law, I do think you should consider the reason why Checo's contract extension was granted. At that point in time, he was holding up the constructor's title and the midfield teams were waiting to see who they could get for 2025. We could have easily seen a future where Checo could have been signed to Williams, Sauber, or Haas given he is a driver who made his name in the midfield for Force India / Racing Point. Its easy to look back and see that the decision to extend his contract was was perhaps the wrong one but its more important to understand the reason for doing so.

Checo is very smart financially. He invests in stock markets, he knows how to make money. He signed the contract extension at the first possible opportunity, which was also probably his last, and now he expects either a pay-off, or a drive for 2025 (and to be paid for it). Horner's blunder, now Red Bull is stuck with a slow driver and no "cheap" way out, these things didn't happen when doctor of Law Helmut Marko was the only RedBull guy deciding on the contracts and drivers.

i've said this before. this entire mess really started during the summer break of 2024 (if you want to get technical, it was really giving checo a drive for 2024 after an embarrassing 2023 campaign). they should have dropped checo during the summer break and promoted ricciardo to RB. it was clear that checo's form has dived down a cliff and the only reason explaining ricciardo's presence was a possibility of a return to RB if checo underperformed. no surprise, checo did underperform but ricciardo wasn't allowed in. they could have truly evaluated ricciardo's ability by giving him until the singapore break and determine if he has still got the talent/speed to stay at red bull meanwhile lawson could have been promoted early to VCARB and gather more experience to replace ricciardo in the event that he underperformed at red bull and get himself up to speed while ricciardo was still there. now what do we get? ricciardo was never able to show if he still had it in a red bull car with a strong front end that he liked so much, perez has underperformed so hard that red bull's chances were gone to dust and is looking at retirement, and lawson's late promotion has failed to give him meaningful experience and left many doubts about his ability to partner verstappen. wonderful work from milton keynes.

This is my theory, and I'm saying this as a Mexican American living in Canada 🇨🇦, so I pretty much cover all of North America on this one, Checo isn't going anywhere for 1 year, he and his Reps want Redbull to cover 1 of the 2 years he has left on his contract, that's right he has a contract until THE END OF 26. He's banking on one impressive year to prove he ain't done, he can't go to Nascar or Indycar both places have a Mexican driver each with a massive fanbase ALREADY, so he wants to leverage one more year to convince Cadillac to let him help along its future junior driver, which I'm expecting to be Jak Crawford, and to sweeten the pot, I think Slim is dangling whatever money he can... now that Hadjar is staying in F2, Redbull have an out atleast for 1 year, so my opinion Max Checo Redbull RB Lawson and Tsunoda, and in 26 both Tsunoda and Checo are GONE.

The problem Red Bull have is that neither Yuki nor Liam are seen as potential replacements for Max, neither of them generate much excitement really. There was plenty of interest in Piastri before he started in F1. Similarly Bearman is getting a lot of attention and Antonelli is seen as a future star. Bortoleto will generate a lot of media attention too. Some of those drivers may turn out to be something of a disappointment 12 months from now or they might be labelled future champions. But Yuki and Liam aren't generating the same sort of headlines outside of Japan and New Zealand respectively. They could go on to win races, but it appears they are not seen as potential champions which is what Red Bull will need when Max decides to move on.
