As a long-service police officer, I have had people ask me if I have ever received a bribe. I used to laugh at the question because the idea is so outlandish. But this is pretty ugly. No, it was just murder. The victims rarely survived. APD had the highest kill rate in the nation for 10 out of 15 years from 2004 to 2019, and the other five they were still in the top five, even though Albuquerque never got above top 20 cities for violent crime (and most of the crime actually happened in the surrounding areas, outside APD's jurisdiction). This was mainly because they'd deploy SWAT to self-deletion attempts. One of my in-laws was an APD SWAT sniper. He quit when they stopped sending him to self-deletion attempts because apparently he was a psychopath who didn't want to be a cop if he couldn't murder innocent people.

One of my in-laws was an APD SWAT sniper. When a new mayor forced APD to stop sending SWAT to "self-deletion" attempts as part of the DOJ thing, he quit the force in protest. This caused a rift in the family as half of us realized he was a psychopath who wanted to shoot innocent people and the other half "backed the blue." A Boomer uncle on that side of the family was an APD cop for 20 years and only drew his gun on a suspect twice in his entire career, and one of them was when a suspect ran away, the uncle drew his gun, paused, then holstered it and gave chase. He'd tell the story in a kind of embarrassed way, saying "What was I going to do, shoot him for running?" The culture of APD, like most police forces in the U.S., changed after 9/11, becoming more and more militant. My theory is that because the government started supplying cops with military equipment after that, and there was a war going on, all the people who wanted to play with cool toys but lacked the discipline, courage, and/or commitment to join the military became cops instead.

Freaking exactly dude! I've lived in Albuquerque for 20 years and the cops here, especially the old school ones are outrageous. I got arrested because I would not say I was gay. By the way, I am not. Got in a fight with my roommate, the cops asked you lovers or roommates? I asked what does it matter. Cop says if you're gay its domestic violence and he goes to jail, if not you go to jail. When I asked why, I found myself in the back of a squad car going to MDC in about 30 seconds. 6 grand for bail and $6,000 for a lawyer 20 years ago. Just to make sure the case got dismissed because they charged me with aggravated assault that's 23 years. Over a stupid fight between roommates. It didn't even make it to the Grand Jury. Probably because the guy said I chased him around and beat him up while he's 100 lb heavier and I'm an amputee who can't wear a prosthetic at the time. Yeah I'm going to catch up to you with only one leg and while on crutches

I submit that this type of corruption is quite common in every state of the union. Power corrupts. And police in America have far more power than they should have.

When I lived in California, my driver’s Ed class specifically mentioned that refusing to take a test was grounds for the officer to confiscate your license. It was a condition of having the license in the first place. I have since moved from CA, and I don’t know if the state legislature has changed this rule since the late 80s. I’ve always wondered what it means if an officer keeps your physical license. You’re supposed to have it on your person when driving, but that normally gets you a warning at best. But they don’t necessarily charge you with a crime. One time, my sister was drunk in a parked car. The officer claimed she was driving it, so arrested the lot of them. He had them dead to rights for a minor in possession of alcohol. They grabbed the information from some passers by, and his report claims the three passers by saw the drunk girls about to drive. Which was a lie. One of the “witnesses” was military police from the nearby military base. He claims that the first time he saw the girls was AFTER they had been arrested, cuffed. And were sitting in the back seat of the police car. The officer kept my sister’s license. The rule is that if you go to court, and are acquitted, you get your license back. So we took all of our evidence to her court hearing, and the judge dismissed the case when it was clear the officer had lied. But a dismissal is not an acquittal, so… my sister could not legally drive until she went to another state. She was being truthful when she answered “Have you ever been convicted of a moving violation?” And she truthfully answered ‘no’.

In MD... "If you refuse to take a test to determine your blood alcohol or drug concentration, or take a test and fail it, the police officer will confiscate your driver’s license (Maryland drivers only), issue a paper temporary license and prepare a case for the Maryland MVA file.". And you loose your ID🤷

I recently saw a video for a strategy to get through a DWI unscathed. Drivers would hang a plastic bag with all their documents out the window, keep that shut and don’t say a single word. That video dates back several years. Is that (still) a thing?

@ChucklesMcGurk Ask Aaron Cash. I'm sure he'd happliy tell you about Officer Cody Wood of Commerce Ga. who arrested him for DUI alcohol after he blew 0.000 ten times on three different machines. Officer Wood had 2 times the number of DUI arrests of all the other officers in his department combined! That should have been a red flag. Tayvin Galanakis would also be happy to tell you about how officers are more then willing to arrest sober people for DUI. The cop saw all the signs and smelled alcohol right before Galanakis blew 0.000 then the cop smelled weed. Galanakis was a college football player who is drug tested weekly so if he pops hot he's off the team. The cop still arrested him. Cops don't care about whether or not your sober, they care about getting that award from MADD for DUI arrests.
