Actually admitting it into evidence was partially something to help any following procedures, like Mr Jones appeals. It's public, her own oath involves disregarding it (thus her laughing), and in a jury trial would have been a much more serious matter. In effect what Jones & his producers did would be considered trying to influence a decision via outside means. Edited to acknowledge that this seems to be a trial by jury, not a bench trial which was otherwise implied.
