I'm Swedish so I don't have a dog in this race more than that we also have a monarchy perspective but to say that Prince Andrew should have been stripped of his titles and royal privileges way earlier is no exaggeration, that is also the general opinion of the Brits. Unlike the rest of the British Royal family, Andrew has always been reckless and arrogant, the only achievement to his name is that he was a pilot during the Falklands war 40 years ago. What I find fascinating and entertaining with this court case is that someone used to the British court system and protected by it now has to adapt to an entirely different one, the US court system. I'm sure they have US lawyers in their team but still, Andrew & co must already feel like Alice in Wonderland :) For example, I bet they felt certain that this whole lawsuit was going to be thrown out because of many reasons, one of them being that he's a member of he Royal family. Instead, he will now have to face the law just like any other civilian, hopefully to be a very humbling experience for him. Him and his team were cocky enough to say they would never settle because they were so sure of their case, my guess is that they now will try to go for that in order to avoid more humiliation. Problem is though, Virginia Giuffrey wants a public apology from Andrew and is not backing down about that so whether Andrew goes for settlement or not, he will have to publicly apologise to Virgina Giuffrey (who he has called a liar, denied and what not). Btw - the Crown is not paying a penny of Andrew's defence costs so he's now selling off real estate (a chalet in Switzerland worth approximately £32 Million) because as everyone knows, US lawsuits of this size are costly.

KZbinr Attorney Tom made a video with the opinion that he was probably stripped only to protect the queen's/family's assets especially since it only happened after the ruling stating the case could go forward. Seems pretty logical IMO
@theresenydahl95313 жыл бұрын
@@Mewse1203 The assets you refer to are of the Crown and not private property of anyone, not even the Queen. The working members of the Royal family receives a yearly sum granted by the Queen. Apart from the yearly apanage the members also own private property, money etc., often inherited from deceased family members. Andrew's private property consists mainly of real estate and since he's the one who is sued, he has to finance his legal defence himself by selling off some or all of it. Andrew has no ownership to the assets of the Crown, therefore they could never come in question as damages in any lawsuit whatsoever. All monarchies are organised like this in order to protect the financial fundament of them. The reason why Andrew has been stripped of everything is not financial. Andrew has embarassed the Crown, the Queen, the Royal family and the British people since the early 80's. He has never had any interest in performing Royal duties, these are merely a couple of many reasons why he's not liked by the British public. This lawsuit was a nail in the coffin for him, the Queen had to strip him of all his privileges, nothing else would have been accepted by the British public. The Royal family must lead by example, otherwise their power and privileges can come in question and be removed by the British public.

@@theresenydahl9531 Hej Therese, (Som du säkert redan vet) There is a a slight difference between the Swedish appanage (paid by our taxes) and the British appanage. Our appanage is closer to the Sovereign Grant (taxes) and the British appanage (being payed by the top royal to their younger children as a sort of compensation for not being first born) if my quick trip to Google University isn't completely off kilter. The appanage to Prince Andrew, I'm sure had to be suspended when he was stripped of his titles. What happens with the income from his Duchy has to be commented on by someone who know more than I do. For those who are interested, the Swedish appanage is set to cover the cost of the royals public duties (their job, basically) and is payed over our taxes. Ours are doing a good job and so far no major scandals, so at least I'm okay with the arrangement. Vänligen, Ann
@theresenydahl95313 жыл бұрын
@@annlidslot8212 Thank you/ tack for clarifying🌷🌷🌷🌷 The point in this case is that US lawyers can't go for the assets of the Crown if Andrew is sentenced to pay damages, they can only go for his private property. The reason for the Queen to relieve Andrew of all his titles etc. was thus not a financial one as some ill informed US tv personalities has expressed and assumed, it had to do with trying to maintain the level of confidence for the British Royal Family intact in the UK. There's a lot of misinformation in the US about the British Royal Family in particular and monarchies in general, it's a hard concept for them to grasp and they just regard them of some form of celebrities, never understanding the dynamics of it. The US tabloids and news would rather go for a scandalous assumption about them than the actual fact when reporting about it, that's unfortunate and reckless spreading of disinformation..

The Prince Andrew interview was bizarre; I remember watching it at the time and thinking, "I can't believe the monarchy or a publicist allowed this, what is he doing?!" There is also a very old interview on one of the old talk shows, maybe Parkinson perhaps, with Jimmy Saville, who was very good friends with Andrew, where Saville tells a story about sneaking a teenage girl in his car boot past the guards into one of the palaces, I forget which, to visit Andrew as a prank of some sort. I remember seeing this and being baffled by the laughter of the audience; I know it was a different time then, I think the 70s or 80s, but why was nobody asking why on earth Saville was sneaking a teenage girl *anywhere* in the boot of his car, never mind visiting a Royal Prince? Nobody thought it was odd, as the studio audience and the viewers at home all just laughed along? What was the plan for her once she got past the guards and in to visit with the Prince, this teenage girl alone with two much older, very powerful men? Ugh it disgusts me to think of it! Edit: I remembered this all wrong, must have had Andrew on the brain with everything that's come out. It was actually Prince Philip in the story that Savile told. Savile was close with the royal family and would go for dinner with them after he got done with the little girls at the children's hospital, or the foster homes, or morgue.

Depending on exactly when it happened, Andrew (born 1960) could still have been the same age as the girl. Not defending Andrew here. Just saying he might not have been much older than the girl. It depends on the dates.

Lawgic went over this a while back when they went to court to dismiss it. He said that the judge made a few points. One, that the agreement is between Epstein and Virginia and only those two can determine what the agreement meant and he's dead and she's here in court so there is that, obviously Virginia doesn't think it applies here. Another fascinating mention from the judge according to Lawgic was the original 2009 lawsuit against Epstein concerned trafficking. Since Virginia is not suing Prince Andrew for Trafficking her the whole idea of using the 2009 agreement is a dead point. Plus, since the agreement was sealed, and did not list others by name, only Jeffrey and Virginia could use it and again, he's dead, and she's not using it. I'm not a lawyer, so please excuse my trying to tell this in an understandable way. But I thought this was worth mentioning. There was also another point the judge said about other royals in other countries and honestly, it made sense to Lawgic but it went over my head. I think it had to do with immunity for one and all royals in the whole world?!....the judge didn't like that and stated it didn't make any sense..

All these people who have been noticed in pictures, they must have been so sure they were sage, in their publicity photos you never see them this 'handsy" In the case of British Royals, does anyone believe they're not advised of how they should act in public long they are out of school? Prosecutors constantly speak for witnesses who are adamant and eager about coming forward, with the prosecutors -- not the witnesses -- saying they don't want to be put through the rigors of a trial. Over time this has had the compounding effect of continuing to shush and shame victims even further. In the Florida case, specifically, it has been shown that his sweetheart plea deal was a pay to play situation.

My sense while watching it is that Prince Andrew thinks he is clearing everything up and then it will all be put to bed and he won't have to address it again. While at the same time the interviewer knows he is burying himself. It's surreal television. Also his comment about a shooting weekend became a joke among my friends for months after. There was no way he could have been such good friends with both Epstein and Jimmy Saville and have had no knowledge, never mind involvement, of the heinous things they were involved in. Jimmy Saville even told a story, during a talk show appearance in the 70s, of when he sneaked a teenage girl in his car boot past the guards at one of the palaces to visit Andrew! What business did a teenage girl have visiting with such powerful, much older men, why would it even occur to anyone to put her in the car boot, and why did she have to be sneaked in at all unless she was being brought there for nefarious reasons? Utterly disgusting, and the audience all just laughed along.

What I find difficult about these cases, as well as the historical sexual abuse claims against other stars I.e. Gary Glitter, Rolf Harris etc is that it seems like you can bring an historical claim if it's against a celebrity, but for those others, the general public, it's very difficult to bring a claim against Joe Bloggs! Your point is well taken. A priest from my childhood (my principal) molested hundreds of kids starting in the early 70s. Most victims kept quiet until they were older for a variety of reasons. When they tried to bring a class action suit against the Vatican for not defrocking him even after he went to prison as a priest, which meant changing the statute of limitations, our governor actually vetoed the bill. The gov. had once been in the seminary. Unbelievable. Loving "an historical". Sadly I don't see that much anymore.
