I hope Adam will be a witness for Jodi’s trial. He has done so much for Boy Scouts and changing laws. So much respect for him and he’s been through so much. Ruby, to me, has done this to herself. I think she has a lot of problems in her childhood that, when Jodi came along, she was sucked right in. Laughing at her six year old because she forget her lunch. Tying the kids up, not feeding them, having her son sleep on the floor for 6 months, no. Ruby needs to take responsibility just like Adam is doing. Thanks Peter

I completely disagree with that statement. The church did promote and support Jodi. Steed's Bishop referred him to her. I grew up in the church and have lived in Utah most of my life. I can attest to the fact that members do put a lot of weight into what their church leaders advise. Members can be really gullible and trusting, believing that these leaders are guided by God--and that they are privy to inspiration about our personal affairs. It sounds weird to a nonmember, but yes they believe that leaders are given promptings regarding those they lead. So yes,the church is involved by promoting her and allowing her to give them info about his sessions. They k ow that is illegal but they didn't care. The church will obviously downplay their connection to Jodi now, but I think they are also culpable morally.

I listened to Adam & Jessi's case (Jodi's niece) and in my opinion Jodi is the core problem here. BUT Ruby should be punished to the fullest extent as well. As a mother, nothing or no one could convince me that abusive behavior is okay. Ruby is their MOTHER, and honestly Kevin should be held accountable as well. These kids will always carry severe trauma because of these freaks, and even worse, they think its their fault. Brainwashing at its finest, but not an excuse in my opinion!

But NOT to get Ruby off the hook. They are both equally culpable for separate reasons. It was a symbiotic relationship where they validated each other's cruelty and sadism and amped it up. Even the administrators at the Jail were seriously aware of their punitive symbiotic relationship and took initial action to see that Ruby and Jodi were housed separately in the jail with Ruby being placed in the infirmary section in order to maintain the jail housing separation.

Ruby was abusing her children while she and husband were on utube. The oldest children tried to report their parents to social services. There was one video where the oldest boy looked totally broken. But Jodie took it to the next level.

Peter, do you think Ruby can use this “Jodi made me do it” defense without implicating the LDS? Jodi was recommended by & had ties to LDS leadership. Her “therapies” dealt with routing out “distortions” or sins based to some extent on LDS teachings. It seems to me it will be difficult to separate Jodi completely from LDS. What do you think?

I haven’t heard enough to know where I land on Ruby, specifically, but I find Adam’s story so compelling. It’s astonishing what people will do in the (false) name of religion. A cult mentality is a very powerful thing. I find Adam to be a reliable narrator and think he would make a great witness in the trial against Jodi - even if not necessarily for Ruby (though the similarities is super interesting). I appreciate you following this story, Peter, and like the angle you saw in this one.

I think what’s hard for me about this, is that Ruby was publicly engaging in horrendous conduct prior to Jodi publicly being in the picture. I definitely need more information, but it’s hard to see Ruby as a victim when I witnessed the glee she got from punishing her children unreasonably. I’ll try to keep an open mind if/when this goes to trial.

In the few clips of the 8 passengers videos I saw, it was very evident that Ruby enjoyed depriving, humiliating and punishing her kids. It's also heart-wrenchingly obvious that her kids, especially the 2 youngest, were unhappy. Those videos were shocking. It appeared to me that Kevin joined in the fun pretty willingly. IDK how long she was 'under the influence' of Jodi but I think these two abusers found each other and teamed up.

Ruby and Kevin were abusive to their children long before Jodi came on the scene. I hope he doesn’t testify for her or Kevin. Testify for the kids if needed. But…his (and the podcast that did his interview) have had their First Amendment rights stripped and he’s not allowed to speak, and his story can’t be told. That should be the focus…who is forcing the removal of the interview and why? Jodi? Ruby? Kevin? LDS Church? If Jessi is silenced next, that should be telling…

He has been through so much, and as a former abused child I understand how difficult this is for him, He has nothing personally to gain from this but us willing to tell the truth of what they were doing. Defense can try, but jury members who are also parents (so most of them), arent going to buy it. It's just not going to happen. It's the same with cases in which a couple abuses their children (Turpins) but the wife was also abused. Even though the wife was abused and feared her husband, they were found guilty and received the same sentence. There are some things that people aren't going to excuse, and sadistically torturing your children is one of them.

In the grand scheme of things, prosecutors will prioritize the biggest fish. Having the weaker offender take a plea bargain, will guarantee that both of them receive jail time. There’s always the chance that a jury will find one of them innocent. Jodie is the bigger risk to the community. As far as we know, Ruby wasn’t long-term starving her kids and duct taping them before. Multiple family members have come out and said the abuse never escalated that far. Jodie has a long history of this behavior towards adults and children. She has also evaded the law thus far. Once the heat gets going, she will say and do anything to make herself look like the victim. Since she isn’t the mother, a jury might be more forgiving towards her. Not taking the chance to guarantee she jodie behind bars, would be a huge mistake to the prosecution. It may seem “unfair” from a black and white standpoint, but it’s actually very smart from a legal standpoint. Anytime two perpetrators are involved, it’s in the prosecutions best interest to bargain a plea with one of the defendants. Otherwise, they could each throw each other under the bus in front of two separate juries, and essentially got off without justice.

I think Jodi may have sent her over the top but ultimately she was responsible for her own children. And Dad. He was there throughout the 8 passenger videos and failed to protect his children and was being benefiting from the proceeds of her channel. I hope they televise this. I think you're right, but it's clear that Ruby was well on the path of serial child abuser before Jodi came into the picture. There is no doubt Jodi made it worse, but I don't think it should let Ruby off the hook. As a mother, I was HORRIFIED to see some of the videos she was posting from years ago. I still say that she was protected by the Mormon church whose influence is in the courts, law enforcement, and undoubtedly CPS in Utah and other states. We should be worried about children in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, and other states with big LDS populations.

definitely agree. i think it's totally possible for her to be an abuser on her own and a victim of jodi. i hope the authorities really listen to ruby's eldest daughter since she's probably the person with the most insight into ruby before and after jodi. when people talk about kevin and jodi's impact on him, they often forget (or don't realize) the eldest daughter doesn't appear to speak to him either. if true, i think that's really telling.

I think, at the very least, Adam could help Kevin's case. The way Jodi was wedging him out of his marriage and children's lives. 😬😡 The thing with Ruby, going back to clips from 8 Passengers, she took pleasure in "her brand of discipline". She's outright beaming when she threatens consequences / made ultimatums to her kids k, even when they're tiny 🤬 Adams recounting of Hildebrandt's "therapy" has alot of commonality with Jesse (as far as mind games anyway) and they both have understanding of what the Franke kids were subjected to.

For sure, Ruby's serious abuse of her own children began and continued several years before Jodi came into her life. Ruby is totally accountable for that significant child abuse of her own children. Ruby then latched onto Jodi and totally supported Jodi's expanded evil and morally corrupt plan of child discipline in order to share in the power, significant wealth, and growing notoriety by becoming joint business partners in this sadistic counseling podcast practice supported by and largely financed by the Mormon Church. The mastermind behind this notoriously abusive joint business venture appears to be Jodi but Ruby's sadistic and manipulative personality appears to be the driving force which put their joint counseling podcast practice into high gear. Both of them are equally culpable for their criminally abusive and negligent child and family care practices and should be charged likewise, in my opinion. When a holdup and murder takes place involving a getaway driver, a shooter, and his accomplice, all three of these men who participated in the holdup and murder are charged with murder even though the specifics of each person's role may vary. Ruby and Jodi are equally culpable for their sadistic and abusive transactions against Ruby's two youngest children. The majority of people responding to this video appear to be in agreement that Ruby is totally responsible for her own criminal actions and does NOT get a major reprieve just because Jodi appears to have been the mastermind. Perhaps, this strong response is because a majority of the responders are female and are born with a strong innate feeling of love and protection for their child that is felt deep within their heart. This maternal/child attachment is a unique bond based on female hormones so is not experienced similarly by males. And, unfortunately, some females are never able to truly bond with children due to psychological disturbances/dysfunction. Peter, I hope that you will rethink your response to this issue or perhaps check out what your wife has to say about maternal/child bonding and if she believes that Ruby does not need to be held as accountable as Jodi because Jodi was the mastermind.

What I've learned from the books I've read on cults and podcasts I've listened to and documentaries I've watched: ANYONE can be pulled into a cult. The one comparisonbetween most victims of cults is that the individual is in a vulnerable place. Its easier to isolate someone that is in a vulnerable place than it is for someone who is not. That's why it's important to show grace when someone leaves a cult or something of that nature. People will do things they never thiught they would when they're in that situation.
@pinkgorilla99

I have been in a cult, i was raised in it. But at some point your reasoning skills kick in and you have to cut ties. I never never abused my kids and I just can’t believe Ruby didn’t know exactly what she was doing. Cults are very damaging and controlling but I can see how it happens because (like you said) they prey on the vulnerable. I have no sympathy for Ruby, Kevin or Jodi.
