Much like the Primitive Technology channel, watching your videos is an active experience. The lack of dialogue forces we viewers to focus on nature's bounty, humanity's ingenuity, and your craftsmanship. And finally, the camera work and post production compliment the experience without get in the way. Well done all around. I've watched several videos today and will likely binge watch until I've seen them all. Thank you for sharing this. :)

Your commitment to craftsmanship is a reminder of how far we have strayed it brings to mind the gunsmiths who built those beautiful muzzle loading flintlock rifles!

Nicely done, is your entire cabin design as you build, or do you work from a set of drawings

I made my own plans, but of course some things change as they go together depending on dynamics of framing.

How did you keep the mortise perpendicular to the reference face? I see you only did single snapline.

Do you seal the ends after joinery cuts and before you peg them together, so they dont check when joined? Last question what kind of pants are those (not a joke)?

When you snapped the chalk line was that like a reference line to base all you measurements off of

+Cliff Lerin Yes, these long timbers like to move a lot, so if I used the edge for reference my mortises would be all over the place.

So much water on the ground. What are you going to do about a vapor barrier in the crawl space under the floor?
@MrChickadee
@MrChickadee 7 жыл бұрын
We don't use any plastics in our builds, and no vapor barriers. There is no crawl space as there is no need for one, no pipes or wires or anything under the floor. A good deep gravel base goes a long way toward keeping things dry .

I realized that after seeing your other videos. But I forgot how to get back to my comment and remove it. Thanks!

I was just comparing the time it takes to notch a timber top plate and the time it takes to frame and nail a 2x4 wall. You can only compare the time because there's no way to compare the experiences.

It seems the closer to get to centralized cities and towns the more regulation goes with it. We are free and far from all that here, you can build whatever you want.
