Lay Your Ghosts To Rest Bass Cover - Between The Buried And Me

A bass cover attempt at BTBAM's super awesome song Lay Your Ghosts To Rest. Extreme difficulty mode on, so I made some mistakes, but overall I think it's a nice try. Also debuting here is my brand new Yamaha RBX JM2 John Myung signature bass with DR Neon White strings. Kicks serious ass!
Tuning is G#C#F#BEA, à la Dan Briggs.

Awesome job! One question, what are the string gauges? Is it a 34" long scale? I have a 34" with .130 B string and when tuning down to G# I find my string too loose.

Hi, thanks for checking in. Scale is 34", and I used DR Neon whites, low B is .125. It was damn loose, but far from unplayable :)

Good job man, this is a great cover! I've learned this song up to about 4 minutes or so, I took a break from learning Parallax 2 material to work on getting my finger strength back up where it used to be so I can nail all the insane fills. There's some weird rhythmic stuff in this tune where the bass gets kind of buried in the mix and it's hard to keep up with, much respect for getting the whole tune down, I can tell you're having as much of a blast as I do when I play their tunes. Dan is awesome, learning his lines is always so fun and satisfying. I have Extremophile Elite up and pretty much everything from Colors and TGM on my channel if you want to check it out. Out of curiosity, are you using the official bass book? I'm guessing by the accuracy of your notation and fingerings that the answer is yes, but there seem to be a few spots where you play some extra notes and make things more difficult for yourself. Doesn't ruin the cover or anything, just something I noticed. And there are also as I'm sure you've noticed a plethora of typos and omissions in the bass book, I noticed a few of them on just the first half of this song that I learned. Can be annoying. Anyway I know what it's like to put a shitton of work into making a cover this solid on a tune that tough and having no one make any comment or anything so I just wanted to say I respect and appreciate what you're doing! Keep it up.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I've seen some of your vids before, you are doing great with all the BTBAM covers and everything. Extremophile Elite an White Walls seem pretty sick. No, I used a GP tab, which I found mostly (~95%) accurate, I learned the track from the tab, then corrected the parts that didn't fit after listening to the original. Maybe I should get that bass book, Dan has some really interesting stuff. And thank you for the comment, again. Keep rockin'!

JJ Keyboards Well, not much sadly, but you should definitely try learning songs that are way out of your league (slowly!!!), that can help a lot. I'm learning The Test That Stumped Them All by Dream Theater, practicing the unison runs can increase your speed greatly. Hope this helps :D

Thanks for commenting. Sadly, no, I found a guitar pro tab that was mostly accurate, I have played some parts differently.

WOOooOoOooAaAAaaAaaAaHhhhj How do you get that sound? How do you setup the neck? Man sounds amazing. I have the same bass and I do not get that sound at all.

Well... honestly I don't know, don't remember. I had it set up after purchase by a luthier. Low action. Also strings were pretty new, that is important. Apart from that, you see my amp settings (also I think I had mid cranked to the max on the bass), but I do not remember the digital post processing I used. Technique also contributes a lot, here I played close to the neck and rather aggressively, hitting the lower strings. Hope this gives an idea! :D Cheers!

Maybe both, but it is the bass that got me into laying down this one. The lyrics is just an added touch, I love that I just cannot make anything out of it :D
