I think Layer is. Zero is a fighter at heart, and after the death of Iris, anyone who wants to be with him would have to be able to keep up with him. She seemed right at home with the Rapier like Zero was with the Saber (granted, they just gave her the same upgrades that were available to him, but still...). If they ever finally make MMX9, I can see her being his partner out in the field. Maybe even elsewhere. :)

Zero is not in love with iris, the ship zeroxiris is not canonical, because iris was only zero's navigator, the two of them have never had feelings for each other. Actually if you see in the game Iris was Colonel's sister, so she refused to accept that her brother was a Marverick, she always prevented Zero from killing her brother. in the scene in which zero destroys colonel, who later meets iris, it can be seen that she is angry at the death of her brother, so she proceeds to try to kill zero. Zero after destroying the ride armor of iris, it proceeds to explode completely destroying iris, and at that very moment zero begins to doubt what is the real reason why it was created, and why he fights. That's the real reason, people just misinterpreted those scenes and made assumptions that she was zero's supposed "girlfriend".

It was a scene on examining conflicting ideologies on violence during the war,he was demanding her not to fight him because the situation became violent enough and she could’ve gotten killed but that dumb bitch didn’t listen to him and look what happened. I don’t think they really had any romantic scene throughout x4 and I doubt zero thinks about her all the time,after x4 zero didn’t really seem so damaged over her being dead and shit,as some people probably thought he’d be. He seemed to care more about x tbh. Plus iris came in only like one game (2 if xtreme counts) and there really was no romantic interaction between the two. Just saying.

@Dannyboyyay im not sure what u mean... im an old fan who's re-playing X1-X6 to this day (don't get me started on the overall lameness of X7), and i find X8 quite an awesome game, while never getting bored of these scenes. if im counting right, i re-played X8 about 15 times on the same save file already. and stopping is nowhere on the horizon for me. maverick mashing is cool & all, but a little spice and humor to the story like this is a good refresher once in a while, i think.

And also, Zero didn't kill Iris; she kinda killed herself. You see, Iris sort of 'merged' with her brother's programming which gave her a Ride Armor. The merging was 'frying' her own programming. Meaning even if Zero didn't fight against her, she'd die. Colonel is 100% to blame for it all; his hot-headedness costed the whole Repliforce and his own life as well as his sister's.
